What an incredible experience! My family came to Candlefish for their candle making workshop and had an amazing time. Abby was a great teacher, very personable, and there were so many scents to choose from. My grandfather is older and English is not his first language and it was very easy for him to follow along. My siblings and my parents also had a great time. After the class, we were given a 15% off coupon to use on anything in the store since we were in the class. There are so many cute candles and other home items, especially for the holidays! The class and shop is reasonably priced and overall a great experience for friends or family.

Attended a candle making class here. The instructor was so kind and informative. She made the class fun and light. We got to choose from 20 different scents or could mix scents to make our candle. We got two candles out of the class for $60. I thought the price was a good deal. Super worth going! BYOB too.

Candlefish is a must-visit in Downtown Charleston. A lot of King Street retailers have come and gone over the years, but they've stood the test of time. The scent library is huge and reminds me of an old-school library with the wood trim and the "catalog" of scents. I answered a few questions and the lady behind the counter brought down several candles for me to smell before I made my decisions. The candles make great gifts, so I bought a few to keep around for birthdays and other occasions. If you visit on Second Sunday, Candlefish often has complementary champagne AND sales. Win win!

Five stars for a candle store, and I didn't even buy anything? (I was there with someone who did!) I saw later that this place was noted on TripAdvisor too, and for good reason. Candle selection? Well, wine scents, other drink scents, and everything else too. Things outside of candles? Well, how about a book on how to talk to your cat about gun safety? Classes on making candles? Yes, that too. Of course service has to be great when you have so much going on and value doesn't seem to be bad either. No, things are not cheap but they seem to be inline with other higher end candle selections.

Best find of all time!!

Very cute store with fun items!. Their prices were more respectable than comparable stores in the same area, which made us come back multiple times and pick this store over other ones. $8 alligator match striker was the find of our trip!! Refreshing to find fun items at fair prices instead of feeling like everything was super marked up.

I have been fascinated with retail ever since I could remember. So much so, I have a degree in fashion merchandising. I firmly believe that there is a certain type of magic in retail and there are some stores that have figured out that magic. One of the types of magic is they have figured out how to captivate you with a scent in their store that will transport you to a whole other world. Candlefish is a double whammy. Not only is it a candle store, they have that transport magic. This was my first visit to Charleston & to Candlefish. The store smelled amazing. I immediately walked up to a girl at the candle library & asked what they were burning. She showed me a tomato & basil candle. It smelled just like a summer tomato garden. I was intrigued, but asked her what she recommended. It was candle scent number 70; it is used in a lot of Charleston hotels. I thought that would be perfect to buy to remember my trip. I wish I would've spent more time smelling the other candles, but I was so biased at No. 70's scent - I stopped right there. They also have some fun giftables and a huge workshop area!

Shoutout to Mark for leading such a fun class and being patient with our goofy behinds lol it was so much fun to have a girls night out with this class. It was my 2nd time doing a class here and this time did the neat Mercury vintage vessel for $65 compared to the $60 glass edition. I also liked how my notes from my QR code of the last class saved the flavor notes I liked/disliked so there is a perk of using the online code to keep up to date with your favorite scent numbers. They also offer old school paper and pencil to track your favorite scent. Upon the class starting, there's some housekeeping and safety stuff to go over. After that it's up to you to pick out the scent of your choice by going around the room and sniffing out which number speaks to your soul. I like how Mark had an idea of what we would like based off of our intro ice breakers and needless to say, he was pretty spot on!! Loved that part! After we all picked our scent, it was the hands on component of measuring, mixing, and making spirits bright with banter and fun conversations! The only con is that you are only able to pick one scent for your 2 candles. It'd be nice to maybe half the wax and scent to include 2 types of scents vs. just one. At some other candle places they allow you to pickup the candle a few hours later with the discrepancy to ensure the candle sets longer at home vs here you must wait 24 hours to pickup with a grace period of 1-2 weeks, just call them if it's longer than a week. They do offer shipping of flat rate $18 and as a perk for taking the class, 15% off merchandise in the store. Compared to the last class I did 2 years ago, this session included more flavor notes to sniff out. Sometimes it gets overwhelming with all the options but I settled with a holiday scent 52! If anything, you can purchase your other favorite scents from their collection. Great rainy day activity and local business to support for the gift-giver in all of us -- or even to treat yourself!

Who doesn't love a little candle roulette. They have a wall of 100 different candle blends to the right, labeled only by number. It sounds overwhelming, but I promise it's not. Their 10 most popular are laid out on the counter, making it fun to see which scents you like. There was an employee there to offer assistance and answer questions. He asked me what I usually go for, and showed me his favorite lavender blend (number 79), which I had to have. The candles in the rest of the shop have their scent blends on the packaging, so you can browse the rest of their cute displays with full transparency. Candles are 100% soy wax and reasonably priced compared to other shops in the area. I'm also excited to try their candle making workshop. My friend is set on doing this for her Bachelorette, which is apparently popular for many other brides to be.

I knew this would be awesome, but the candlemaking class blew me away. It was led by two of the most helpful individuals I've ever met. They made the class fun, they were informative and clearly love Candlefish. The class was the perfect length off time. You get to make two candles (with the same scent). The biggest challenge is really picking the scents! So many to choose from! You make your label. You pour some wax, you pour your oil, mix mix mix, then pour. Add your wick and Voila! You have yourself a candle. You can byob which is a nice bonus. Finally, they give you a discount to shop at the end. What's better than that?

One of the most unique candle shops you may ever find and it's not chain. The variety is staggering. Find them off King Street with off street and garage parking. Expect them to be busy! They were full with customers as my daughter and I browsed. They also have a back room area for candle making parties. When their they were setting up. Although we ended up not purchasing anything my candle loving daughter really liked them and we shopped them twice. No staff was on the floor to assist was the only negative. Instructions of how to navigate would have been extremely helpful and likely led to a sale. 4.5 rounding down. Recommend!

My husband and I had such an amazing time at our candle making workshop! Jennifer was so professional and made the class both educational and fun for all the participants. We had over 100 scents to choose from however she helped everyone get acquainted with the process so we didn't feel overwhelmed and understood. We all walked away with two custom candles with the option to have them shipped for a flat rate or to be picked up once curated. This was such a wonderful experience we'll never forget!

I was…read moreoverwhelmed coming in seeing how many scent options there were to choose from, but it actually ended up being a way easier process picking scents than I expected! The employee helping our group was very friendly, and did a great job walking us through the process as well as helping people figure out if their scent combinations worked well or needed some other suggestions. The process started with deciding what you wanted to make, and then moving to the scent walls to pick out fragrances that you wanted to add to your product. I decided to make a candle and picked out the tobacco scent oil to mix with a couple beachy scent oils. Once you had picked your scents you put a few drops of each into a container and were able to confirm that you actually liked this combo and didn't want to switch any scents. And then from there, you kept adding scent oils and tweaking proportions until you had the amount needed for the product you were making. My candle was ready to pick up the next morning, and I am really happy with how it turned out! You can choose to pick up your product (if you don't make something that will immediately be ready to take home) or to have them ship it to you. Overall, this was a really fun experience with items you could make at a wide range of prices and great customer service. I highly recommend checking them out!

We made an appointment, but because it was a holiday, they weren't crowded. The lovely staff member was so friendly and helpful - she was an absolute delight! She explained the process, helped make suggestions on pairings/ratios to help the scent remain balanced, and had a great playlist going on top of it! We went through and smelled pretty much everything in the store and finally narrowed it down. Once instructed on how to mix the scents, she helped fill the diffuser and the refill bottle. The space itself is very cute, with plenty of options to choose from. It is probably $20-$50/per item, but the experience make it so fun. It won't be something I do every week, but it's definitely something everyone could enjoy. They highly recommend appointments, but can accommodate walk-ins if able.
