When we got back to the carriage, and were awaiting the others, we started eating some of the Truffles. We could not believe how delicious they were! I immediately sent my husband back in to buy more! The taste is so smooth and creamy. The pure, deliciousness of the Sark Milk they use shines through. You honestly will be hard-pressed to find better Chocolate... anywhere in the world! They also gave us a complementary slice of Cake while we were shopping (the store is so sweet and cozy - there is a window where you can watch them making Chocolate)! And we tried their Sloe Gin, which was delicious and went with the Cake perfectly! Since returning to the US, we have had two orders shipped from Caragh Chocolates. This distinctive Victorian cast iron building was erected in 1883 and still bustles today with 36 market stalls. If you're heading out for a bike ride around the island, this is an excellent place to provision up. Or you can purchase your Jersey black butter here to take home as a souvenir. Of special interest to me was the Vienna Bakery inside the market. And of course the ice cream shop. Jersey ice cream is rich and creamy in the tradition of Philadelphia's famous ice cream. It is much richer and creamier than what you get on the European continent where a lighter gelato style predominates. Try it and you'll forget gelato. The market is open Monday through Saturday but keep in mind that on Thursday afternoons by tradition, it is closed.
