I have been going to Canals for years and always was satisfied with price and customer service, however when some of the old clerks left and new ones where hired it isn't the same. The last few times I have been there the clerks are not friendly and in fact rude. I walk away feeling very uncomfortable and I don't plan to come back. I do not know if they are related, however I work with a team and maybe you want to pay attention to the way they are at the register even when someone is being nice. With easy parking right off the road, this large, fully stocked liquor store with a local, family-owned feeling puts it at 5 stars!! First of all you can't beat the parking here! You pull right off the road and park head on into a long parking lot! It's a snap to get in and out of so totally off to a great start! Then when you go inside you see a large, fully stocked liquor store with an excellent selection! This includes craft beers. Very amazed to see a store like this and it outshines the other liquor stores in the area! My favorite part about the store is a real friendly feeling you get when you come in. I don't know if it's family-owned but it sure feels like it. Great vibe shopping here and I just left the layout. So after I rung up all of my alcohol which was around $150, I checked in using my Yelp app and discovered that there was a 10% off coupon. Since I spent so much money I decided to see if they would honor it even though I finished ringing up my order. With a friendly smile the woman said no problem at all and let me get the discount! This Canal's operates in the old Monster Beverage location. It feels like an outlet shop or warehouse by the sheer amount of liquor inside and the total lack of ambiance. It's not an attractive store by any means. But it is huge, and they do carry tons of great local, national, and international beers in singles and packs, so I'm happy. If you're a New Jersey Beer Club member, be sure to show your card for 10% off mixed 6-packs at the register. They do have a nice selection for mixed 6's, but I've seen better at other shops (like Wegmans). Of course, they have a bunch of wines and liquors also, but I don't really drink those so I can't comment on the selection or pricing. I just know the beer is reasonable. Sometimes they do free samplings here, and the staff, in general, seems to be nice. I have never been carded, which confuses me since it's in a college town and I'm only in my late 20's, but I'm seeing from other reviews here that it's not just me. Granted I'm not much of a drinker since I come from a family of alcoholics, but I'm not a saint, so I did drink a leeeeeetle while I was in college. Monster Beverage was my friend while I was a student at Rowan. I still stop there when I happen to be in the area because they have a really good wine selection. Now that the new wine warehouse has opened in Glassboro, I'll be interested to see what happens to Monster Beverage's wine selection. Caution, if it's a holiday, the police frequently stop traffic on Delsea Drive to card drivers before they are allowed to enter the parking lot. If you are planning an event around a "partying" holiday, buy your alcohol in advance or you may be stuck in traffic for a while. read more

I had a Monster coupon for 20% off 12 bottles of wine and Canals said they would accept all monster coupons. Now this coupon had a thanksgiving theme but it had no expiration date printed on it. I tried using it in April or May (received in Nov. of the prior year) and the clerk called the manager over. The manager said "this is too old" and ripped it up. Needless to say I left my cart in the checkout line and I have not returned since. Management shouldn't make fools out of their customers and that's how I felt that day. My only rebuttal is to take all my business to H&G. I was a regular customer during my college years and this is a great example of why the customer should always be right. And in this case the only thing I was guilty of was purchasing wine and using a coupon with no expiration. read more

Note: This place used to be called "Monster Beverage." Canal's in Glassboro is pretty ugly inside but I doubt that is really a concern to many liquor store shoppers. Beer selection is off the wall. I'm a craft beer drinking and I haven't heard of probably 85% of the beers in this place. This doesn't mean they don't have your basic beer, they have it all. Prices are the best you'll be able to find from the beer to the liquor. They now have a walk in cooler for popular cases of beer. I go to Rowan, and since I turned 21 7 months ago, Monster has been my first choice for beer / liquor. They have a huge selection of beer, wine, and hard alcohol. Their prices vary with the quality of alcohol. You can go in, buy 2 40s for $4 bucks and call it a night, or walk out with top shelf stuff, and everywhere in between. They are also generally cheaper than their Glassboro competitors. They also have a smaller section for juice, soda and other party supplies, as well as other alcohol related accessories. Definitely the only place you'll need to go for alcohol in Glassboro. read more

As someone who went to Rowan, this is definitely my liquor store of choice in South Jersey. The prices are better than Landmark and rival bigger chains, like Canals. It's a pretty big place, so it has a decent selection of most things. They have a moderate selection of Belgian beers and American craft breweries. They are also well stocked in hard liquors (which I think might sometimes be slightly cheaper here than the bigger chains). Also, if you can't find what you want, they will order it for you.. you just have to ask the manager nicely. This, like any other liquor store, is definitely a place to avoid right before major drinking holidays (new years, halloween, christmas, football games). On several occasions, I've driven past and seen police directing traffic in the parking lot. That's a sign of two sure things... they're well liked and busy, and also have really crummy parking! The service is never especially friendly, but they get the job done, so I can't complain. I just go there for the cheap(ish) booze! read more

If I could give 0 stars I would. I go in to buy an expensive bottle of bourbon. Gentleman Jack 1.75 ltr. Shelf price is $61.99 and there is NO sale price indicated on shelf mind you. In fact the cashier had the other guy go and he brought the shelf price indicator of $61.99 back up to the front. When the bottle is rung up it is now on sale for $59.98. Therefore if it is on a MYSTERY sale she cannot give me my 10% off. If it was not on a supposed sale then it would have been $55.79 + tax. This is rediculous! Come up with a sale price that is NOT indicated to customers until it's rung up! This is the 1st time I've ever encountered a sale like this. Granted it's only a couple dollars but I will tell EVERYBODY I know about it!!! I'll go elsewhere from now on even if I have to pay more just to not patronize these people and their DECEPTIVE practices. I love this place for the large selection they have but once in a while I am waited on by a cashier who is incredibly rude. As I have explained before in a previous review of the place I once had money thrown in my face all because I forgot to put the money in her hand and another time I could see that this girl was judging me for my appearance. She was looking at everything I had on, from head to toe, judging the whole time! As you can imagine this was extremely unpleasant and hurtful. For those who think I was misreading her, well all I have to say is that you weren't there and if you had experienced what I had then you would know I mean. I am a beer geek extraordinaire and monster has an awesome selection of beer. Hops and Grapes probably has less brands of beer than this place. The beer wall is probably 400ft long! I just wish they had a better make your own six selection. However, if you ask if they have singles of a certain beer they'll let you take a bottle from a six pack on the shelf. Anyway, they also have a nice wine and liquor selection, but Hops and grapes probably beets them in this category. The staff is cool an always willing to help. read more

Great prices. A lot of their sales place their products at COST. Meaning it's literally the cheapest they can legally sell it for. Their coupons can be confusing, but I've learned that it's because they can't sell items for less than they get them for. Huge selection of wine, beer, and spirits. Monster beverage is one of those warehouse style liquor stores where it sometimes feels like they are cramming as much as they can to maximize space. They have an excellent selection of beer and wine but not hard liquor, and their staff and cleanliness are good but not accommodating, so make sure you know what you want beforehand. Prices are better than average, which is the reason it stands out in an area with generally good liquor stores. The lot is small and the place is swarming with cops during holidays. Me and my friends typically come here to peruse the craft beer section. Its one of the best in the area. Defintily tops hops and grapes. Furthermore, while I'm not necessarily a wine man, it has a very great wine selection too. Its liquor selection is more than enough to get a party going and it has a great selection of cheaper(but still great try the pucker) and top shelf beverages.
