I stayed with Bruno and Gill for B&B and one of my fondest memories is having a bottle of vino and a gas with Gill in the kitchen. Honestly Batcombe is just a fantastic place with some amazing friendly, interesting people. Bruno had just put in toilets when we got married here which was fantastic and the barn had not been used all winter so we had a lot of cleaning up to do. Its no frills but it makes it for economic sense as a wedding venue if you have the vision and want to get married in a glorious location. The main barn itself is gorgeously rustic, just put some dichroic floods as a backdrop and it becomes wonderfully atmospheric. We had a friend climb around like a monkey and do an amazing job on lighting and hung long swathes of black fabric over the not so pretty metal door entrance to the barn. In the smaller barn annex we also hung fabric to disguise the galvanised roof. We were able to have a fire going outside and allowed to have fireworks (before 10pm of course) and a flamethrowing fire engine. The villagers were just fantastic and welcoming and Bruno was an absolute star! Not only was he a bell-ringer, but he ran the bar at the village hall and made sure we had enough fuel to run the genny for the weekend. Barn does get cold at night so its worth renting a couple of space heaters. We got a TENS from Mendip council and ran our own bar which was fab. This is a beautiful quiet village so its not the spot to pound music late into the night as noise does carry but its a perfect venue for an event such as a wedding in the summer.

After reading other reviews it seems pipe problems is fairly regular and so I have to believe mold is an issue. And then we woke up to yellow water dripping down the bathroom ceiling. There was no fitted sheet on the bed, when I called down to inquire they said they don't use fitted sheets but a bed sheet is used and tucked in around the mattress BUT the sheet wasn't big enough to actually be tucked in. The pillows and bedding was poor quality. To top it all off we had loud drunk people yelling outside our window for hours. The windows did nothing to keep the noise out.

I described my soup, entree and dessert below the appended photos. Suffice it to say, beyond that, while the soup wasn't bad, the entree and dessert were great. The room reminded me of a gym with tables and chandeliers and the performing "stage" was just a space beyond the tables. Our evening was dinner theater tailored for tourists and they all did a fine job.

I went for Sunday roast with my family to celebrate my Gran's birthday and it really was something special. The service was amazing, everything was attended to without a second thought. The meal itself was beautiful, a bit different from a traditional pub lunch but really, really good and the pudding was amazing. I thought it was going to bankrupt my family but at £20 a head for the three courses it was pretty good value for money. And after dinner we went and had a little walk around all of its beautiful gardens. It would also make a beautiful venue for weddings.

They were spacious and beautiful. The main issue we had were the showers. My uncle actually had to have them come up and explain how his worked in order to get the hot water, and he is a plumber. In our room you were given a choice, hot water or water pressure. If you wanted hot water you had a trickle of water but if you wanted a good steam of water, well then you had a bracing flow of very cold water. That being said despite the minor inconveniences, we loved our stay. It truly was beautiful off the beaten path, the staff was friendly and helpful. It was a chance to travel back in time to get a minor taste of what being a guest a hundred years ago may have felt like. So no it's not a 5 star luxury hotel. It is an old manor house with charm and quirks. We loved it.

I've been to a rug bizarre here, been meaning to try out the Steiner toddlers group on a Thursday morning and have been to a 40th at this venue. The hall itself is oblong and a good size, it has power points and a kitchen, tables, chairs and toilets. One of the things I really like about St.Catherines is that there's a grassy outdoor area punctuated by trees for children to run around on and partied out adults to loiter. As well as it's use by Steiner groups, craft bizarres and for private venue hire, the hall is also used for judo, live music and 'disco tots'.
