Mallorcan-style barbecue not to be missed!
This Finca-style restaurant is a gem. Minutes away from rowdy Ballerman 6 and the "Bierstrasse", you walk through a lovely garden and into what feels like someone's home. There's the large charcoal BBQ "room" on the left, the main house on the right, and a terrace with both fountain and mountain view in front.
The menu consists of an abundance of grilled meats, some salads, and desserts. We couldn't decide, so we ordered Mixed Grill #1--lamb, pork, chicken and steak. We wanted to try Mixed Grill #2, but our wide-eyed daughter begged us not to eat rabbit (she likes bunnies). However, lamb chops as Entree #2 was acceptable.
While we were waiting, we nibbled on green olives & grilled Pa amb oli (bread with tomatoes and olive oil), some sparkling water and wine, and took in the sunset view. The house salad was excellent--lettuces, asparagus, tuna, capers, dressed in a lovely vinaigrette. Timing and service were well-paced.
Since we weren't quite ready to leave, we ordered dessert. Again, a tough choice, we opted for a fresh pineapple and a slice of almond cake. I *think* both were delicious; while I was savoring my first bite, our daughter discovered how quickly and skillfully she could spear first fruit then cake with her fork. Ah well, vacations are always good for childhood development. :-)
The food is cooked on what has got to be the biggest charcoal barbecue I have ever seen. It's not your standard Weber--more like a tiled "trough", about 5 meters long. Something my Dad, a Grillmeister in his own right, would have appreciated.
The only caution is this: there is a large parking lot in front of the restaurant, but there is no sidewalk going in the direction of the beach on the restaurant-side of the street. So if you walk, be careful crossing the street to the sidewalk on the other side.
Bottom line: we couldn't find anything to fault. Great dinner, atmosphere, & service; family friendly; good people watching; the price was fine for what we got. The receptionist at our accommodation recommended it, saying that locals as well as tourists go here, and she was spot-on. If we are back in Mallorca again, we will be sure to stop here for more barbecue, maybe even Mixed Grill #2. :-) read more
