ROC advertises their hours, Sundays being 10a to 4pm. No sign on the door or updated phone recording. Today is Sunday and I'm going to make ONE more trip this morning to return my deposits. Please don't disappoint, it's not easy as a disabled veteran to walk that far with 600 cans.

Recently I noticed a small store located at 471 East Ridge road called "Quick Cans". It is in a little plaza at the 475 plaza. I decided to check it out for a couple of reasons. Quite often when people go to the bigger stores and you have 10 or 15 cans or bottles, you end up waiting for the guy who has 3 grocery bags full. You might get lucky if he lets you first, LOL. I checked this place out and they pay the exact same price as the big places, 5 cents per can or bottle. Instant service, people count your cans and bottles right away and pay! While I was there I saw a variety of people coming in. From the homeowner cashing in a few bags of cans, to landlords-business people coming in with larger loads. I was impressed. If you want to save time I suggest "Quick Cans".

You know when it's 15 degrees and you're standing outside Wegman's freezing and losing your…read morepatience waiting for the old man in front of you with his 500 dirty cans to please move it along...then the Gods shine down on you, your turn finally arrives, and you begin feeding your bottles slowly into the temperamental machine...and then 15 seconds later, the dreaded message "bin full, please call for assistance"...finally help arrives and you continue on, but the machine decides it doesn't want those craft pack Labbat's that you bought at that very store...tired, cold, and annoyed, you trudge inside to the service counter to return all the bottles the machine rejected, only to receive a blank stare by the clerk who then proceeds to question you as to why you didnt put them in the machine outside? Argh!! Are you freaking kidding me??...so frustrating! Well my bottle toting friends, there is a solution. Enter Ridge Nickleback, one of a plethora of new return centers that have been popping up in response to the NY bottle law. They took all my empties, even the weird Trader Joe's and BOTW oddballs, and I was out the door, cash in hand, less than a minute later. Located on Culver near Parkside Diner...definitely will be bringing my empties here from now on.

They are also able to count the containers faster than you can feed them into the machines at the grocery store. I'll be returning here next time my containers pile up. I feel the only way to stop certain staff from stealing the customers $$$ is for the owner of the business to have one of their family or friends return precounted bottles & see for themselves. I have used this locations for several years. I always appreciated the friendly staff & clean environment. It never occurred to me that certain staff would steal $$$ from customers. If it's happened to me, no doubt it happens throughout the day. I don't want to think of the families that count on that $$$ for desperately needed food, diapers or gas. It's also crazy to think that I've added a TIP each time I've been there, so they have more of my $$$. I no longer go there, I precount my returnables no matter where I go. I've told friends & family to do the same. Unfortunate experience, that's for sure.

For things that are recyclable but aren't accepted in curbside recycling bins, you can take your items to Ecopark off of Paul Road in Chili. Today I brough scrap metal, empty prescriptions bottles, and the "bag of plastic bags" I know we all have. No appointments necessary for that stuff, though if you are bringing things like paint or hazardous waste, you will need to make an appointment online. Many things are free to recycle, some have a fee. I paid $5 to recycle a tire on a previous trip. The line of cars is usually pretty long but moves more quickly than you'd expect. Once you're in the building, attendants let you know where you can put your items. Drive out the other side of the building and exit the way you came in. Easy process, and there are a few less items in the landfill!
