    Soy latte, aka liquid gold!

Let me start by saying that Campos Coffee - and from this location in particular - remains my favourite place in Brisbane to get coffee. Strong, tasty, smooth - just delicious. I have visited on numerous occasions for brunch and have always enjoyed the food. Despite being almost hidden down a driveway/alley, it is an extremely popular weekend brunch location and so the wait for a table can be on the longer side. They have installed shade covers so you no longer need to stand in the sun during the wait at least. I cannot fault the service as the waiters are friendly and helpful and I appreciate the constant supply of water to accompany your coffee and meals. The line to pay can occasionally be on the long side, and with this being in the main thoroughfare for the wait staff to deliver meals to the outside diners it can be cramped. If the option for the bill to be brought to the table was offered more readily by the wait staff when clearing plates, I feel like it would alleviate the issue. Not all staff will deliver a bill on request, instead insisting you line up to pay. Because of the deserved popularity of this place for coffee, it is not unusual for your meal to arrive before your coffee does which isn't ideal. I only have those two minor issues with this place and definitely recommend a visit - I would just allow extra time if visiting of a weekend to allow for the wait time. Whatever you do, have a coffee!

I like their old stuff better than their new stuff. This Campos is flashy and uber hip, but has table service and a 'please wait to be seated sign' - a far cry from the Soup Nazi style setup I loved in Newtown. NO COFFEE FOR YOU!! The service is a tad overbearing as well. No sooner had I sat down than menus and water were down and coffee order taken, one minute later asked about food, No, ten minutes later my coffee arrives and literally 7 - 10 seconds after I finished it it was whipped away and I was asked about another. I'm good, thanks. Chill out Campos. We love you, you don't need to impress us. Just please let me have your coffee

The folks at Campos sell some seriously good coffee. It's not for the uninitiated, so if you prefer your coffee American style (aka milky and sugary, aka crap) be ready with the sweeteners. However, if you like your coffee the proper way - strong, rich, slightly bitter - you'll be a happy Campos camper. The little laneway that houses Campos is covered in astroturf and has a cute little dog parking area so your four-legged friend can join you (if your dog is disciplined enough not to scuffle with other dogs which I can't say mine are, unfortunately). Outdoor seating in the laneway is very nice owing to the potted palms and milk crate stools. Inside is dark and cool and has banquette seating as well as tables. The food at Campos can be a little bit hit and miss so I'd recommend sticking with a piece of cake or something basic, but the drawcard here is the coffee and that's all Campos needs to attract Brisbaneites from afar - be ready to fight for a table on weekend mornings!

Every fortnight, I drive across town specifically to go to Campos in New Farm to pick up their roasted coffee beans. I could stock up on them I suppose, but there's nothing like the taste and smell of fresh coffee beans from Campos. Plus I enjoy the ambience of the place - and this is just from running in and out every fortnight, I've never sat down for a meal. I like how they've turned the obscure alleyway into their home. There's a 'dog parking' space with a bowl of water and a hook to tie up the leads. They use hessian cushions placed on upside down milk crates as chairs. There's a monkey straddling the giant steam-punk fans on the roof. I know a lot about the sort of coffees I like now but when I first got my espresso machine, the staff was very helpful in teaching me what to look for. If unsure, you can't go wrong with Campos Superior Blend. These days I prefer the Dark City - full of body, rich and smooth.

What looks like the door to a business unit is in fact the entry to a bustling coffee shop. Behind this modest door is the gateway to the realm of Di Bella Coffee. I was amazed just how many people were inside when I walked through the door. They were waiting patiently in amongst the coffee paraphernalia for their coffee, in a surprisingly large venue with plenty of tables and even a kid's space. Like all good coffee shops, there's a range of sweet treats and light meals on offer including the brand new, wackily named 'Kwak Scroll' from renowned Oregano Bakery in Sydney. Di Bella are the exclusive retailer of the lightly frosted cinnamon scrolls, in Queensland. The coffee shop serves as a chance to offer new products and test public reaction. Don't worry about that slight burning smell; that's the aroma of A-grade Arabica being roasted at the attached factory, where the process of heating the raw bean brings out its delicious oils, allowing them to be processed into a beautiful crema topped espresso. Sorry if I am waxing lyrical a bit, I really love coffee! And so does Mr Di Bella it would seem (it has after all made him a millionaire), who has set up not just a cafe but also a coffee training school and a drive thru delivering top notch espresso coffee through your car window. I'm yet to try that feature but have enjoyed a well-extracted espresso in the main cafe on a number of occasions. Like other big QLD roaster Merlo, you get a free coffee to enjoy at the cafe when you buy some beans to take home. They do 13 different regular blends, with my favourite two being the 'Felici' (Italian for 'lucky') and 'Arnika Reserve' (named after Phillip's daughter).

I had been hearing about Blackstar Coffee for years now from family members and had been gifted their coffee to make at home so I knew it was time to pay a visit to the place itself. Visiting Blackstar in person was quite an experience in that it was very different from what I had pictured. I had erroneously assumed it would be a fairly trendy looking joint: jazz music playing in the background, succulents decorating the tables, local hipster art on the walls. Imagine my surprise when I found *no* walls, all outdoors, and super casual with funky chairs. The friendly but distracted young man that took our orders reminded me of the Phish heads I used to hang out with in college. Most of the other workers had a hippie-style to them as well. It took a few back and forths to figure out what coffee was available for which particular brewing method. I ordered a cappuccino and a brownie to share. We grabbed a small table to enjoy the people watching while waiting for our coffees. There were a few dudes throwing a football around across the street and a number of hipsters posing and looking cool while staring at their phones. The music (Radiohead) became louder and it looked like the staff was rocking out in the back. Our order arrived after a few minutes, and I was happy that my cappuccino was hot, smooth, and nicely decorated. Perhaps it was a little too smooth for my liking, but nonetheless was good enough. But that brownie, damn -- delicious! Super fudgy and chocolately and just amazing. I wish I tried one of their cold brews but I stupidly didn't read the Yelp reviews before coming here. Solid coffee, excellent dessert, and fun people watching make Blackstar a fun place to visit while in the neighborhood.
