Oh Dr.Campo... I'll never go to another dentist ! It's been ages since I went to Dr.Campo- I moved to another part of of the city, went to a different dentist who was horrible. It's taken me ages to get the courage to go back to any dentist. But today I went back to Dr.Campo & he'll be my dentist forever. He's thorough, explained everything to me, gentle as could be & knows what he's doing. I trust him completely. And as for his STAFF... he's lucky to have every single one working for him. Sophia, Katherine & Amanda were so incredibly helpful & it's clear they love working together. So friendly, lots of fun to talk to & that makes me know I'm in the best of hands there. Miss Katherine is Dr.Campo's assistant. She did a scan & X-Rays & asked me as she was doing them if I was ok. Now that may not be important to you but to me it meant a lot. Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! Today I would like to take a moment during this day of stuffing our pumpkin pie-holes and verbally wrestling our loved ones over mythologies and politics and celebrity weddings that don't really matter instead of how awesome it is to actually have a family or friends at all, to focus on our teeth. And by our teeth, I mean my teeth. This summer, it started to hurt to eat certain things, and the origin appeared to be my 15-yr old amalgam filling. It seemed time for its replacement, but for me that's kind of an expensive venture, so I waited despite knowing better. I just didn't really have a choice. Finally I did a good bit of calling around to see where I could pay the least while getting the most drill for my buck, after using Yelp to make my list of course, and settled on Dr. James Campo as my new jaw breaker thanks to his glowing reviews. There was no jaw breaking at all! Or wallet breaking! For less than I would have paid anywhere else I called, my teeth were entrusted to the hands of an apparent master of his craft. He quickly diagnosed my problem as a cracked filling, and soon went about drilling out the old to replace with the new. And because he refuses to use metal fillings, I even got upgraded to composite as part of the deal! There was some concern that I'd waited too long and that I may end up needing a root canal, which is why I waited a couple weeks to write this review. But apparently he did such a good job with the new filling, that it saved my tooth. Dr. Campo is my hero! All hail Campo! And hugs and even kisses to all the friendly and knowledgeable staff there as well. So today, I give thanks for my saved tooth and my recently newfound ability to eat all foods again, just in time to fully enjoy the holiday season! And for Yelp for helping me find my new dentist. Went to this dentist office several times. They have done fantastic work for me in the past. Best of all is that they work with you, Even without insurance these guys aren't too outrageous. I used to fear, loathe and avoid the dentist like the plague. The first time I went I had a tooth pulled. They were able to pull it out quickly and with no pain at all. The second time I had a root canal done, With my insurance it was dirt cheap. This place does a whole host dental services. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Long story short- I had a a pretty awful freak-accident immediately causing immense amounts of dental work (we're talking wind storm/slate tile to the face...) While I got stitched up at Touro, my friend called around and got ahold of Dr. Campo. They made room for me right away, and took excellent care of my poor, broken teeth (allll of them up front). Having been a considered a dental annomile (sp?) before this little mishap, this was not only a little traumatizing, but a crash course in dental surgery... Eventually needing root canals and the such. He and his staff are always so friendly and professional. When this accident occured, I was serving as a volunteer- with minimal insurance and finances. They didn't think twice about giving me the best of care, and waiving the co-pays. I'll never be able to express my gratitude enough! read more

I've never been a fan of the dentist. I was that kid who had to be dragged in, kicking and screaming. That being said, I'm a huge fan of Dr. Campo and his staff and couldn't imagine going anywhere else. The staff makes it a smooth experience. They are very diligent in breaking down the pricing and explaining the costs clearly. A bonus is that you can opt in for text message reminders about appointments. The dental assistants are very thorough in their cleaning. Dr. Campo is an extremely knowledgeable dentist who makes any procedure as painless as possible. Highly recommend! read more

After 5+ years of great experiences here, I have had a change of heart and will not be going back! In short, they never mentioned that my insurance wouldn't cover the costs!! A couple weeks ago my wife and I both went for routine check-ups that should have been 100% paid by insurance. Dr. Campo's staff failed to mention that they charge much higher rates then my new insurance accepts and that I would be paying most of the bill myself. I got the, "we are expensive and its too bad your insurance doesn't cover us" treatment. Good job hiding the costs until I was forced to pay out of pocket. read more

I just had the most awesome experience here! I needed a wisdom tooth extraction and I was REALLY nervous. Really really nervous. I had my other 3 out 5 years ago and it was a less than pleasant experience. But the staff at Dr. Campo's office were very pleasant, professional and, caring and put me right at ease. Dr. Campo is extremely proficient and liberal with the Novocaine and I didn't feel a thing. And the actual extraction took less than a minute. What?! Seriously. This guy is a pro. My boyfriend came with me for support and was even able to sit in the procedure room with me. He was so impressed with the care I received he is switching dentists. And to top it all off they are very affordable. even for a lady like me with no insurance. read more

Let's start this review by saying good morning. One I can say I love the location of this office but I don't love theirs no parking at all for his patients. Everyone in the office is friendly except Candance that works at the front desk, she is one of the rudest people I have ever met in customer service. Just by your unkind unpleasing, behavior I chose to find another dental office. I guess people feel they can mistreat you and forget that you can take your business else where. And can I add word of mouth is also how you get business. Customer service in this city is minimum as I'm starting to see. I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Campo and his office staff. Like a lot of other people, I really, REALLY don't like going to the dentist, but I don't mind going to see Dr. Campo at all. I've been with him since 2008, I believe, and I can't imagine going anywhere else. He and his staff are always conscientious of my sensitivities/facial expressions/etc. I go to Dr. Campo for basic dental check-ups, I've had cavities filled (with absolutely no pain whatsoever) and I've also gone to his office for teeth whitening. One of his assistants took impressions of my teeth, and my whitening trays were ready fast and fit perfectly. My husband now goes to Dr. Campo and I would recommend them to anyone. read more

I've been going to this dentist since 2012, and every now and then, I've also gone to see my hometown dentist in between. I had a filling done at Campo in 2012 and when my other dentist saw it, he made a comment that it didn't seem like it was very stable. Sure enough, when I went back to Campo recently, he informed me that he needed to replace that filling, which was less than 4 years old. A filling should last longer than 4 years!!! I was willing to let that slide (and I let Campo replace his own filling), thinking that maybe there was some external reason for what happened. But TODAY I went in for what was supposed to be routine dental cleaning. Without asking me if I wanted it, they did a periodontal exam and then tried to tell me I needed to a "deep clean" costing about $500. It has been only 4 months since my last cleaning with them. It's hard to see how things could have gotten that much worse in that amount of time. After some hand wringing, I told them I didn't want to do it, and THEN they charged me $117 for the periodontal exam that I DIDN'T ASK FOR!!! No teeth cleaning, no anything else, just $117 for poking my gums for about 10 minutes and a 2 minute conversation with Campo. This is insane. It is at least dishonest and maybe worse. Just got out of a appointment with Dr. Campo and his staff and I must say I am very happy! I was really worried about choosing a good dentist after moving to New Orleans. Being new to the area I had no idea who could be trusted. Thankfully these reviews did not let me down and I am so happy with my decision. The costumer service was spectacular. Made an appointment here in January 2013 and provided them with all of my insurance information at that time. Got there today (March 2013) and they had not called to verify that they take my insurance. They called while I was waiting to see the dentist and found out oh guess what, we don't. I wasted two months waiting on this appointment and wasn't even able to see the dentist because of the staff's complete incompetency. I DO NOT recommend going here unless you want to deal with a huge headache and a lot of frustration. read more

I managed to get a same day appointment as a new client, they were super nice, I'm pretty sure they cut me a deal and generally everything was great. I went because of a wisdom tooth issue and they were totally straight up about what they could do and what they would have to pass on to an oral surgeon. Dr. Campo is great. I just had 7 veneers and 5 crowns put on my upper teeth. They are so beautiful and natural looking! When I was 12 years old, I had to have a crown on a front tooth. Over the years, no matter the bleachings, it never blended with my other teeth. Finally, at age 57, I decided to make my dream come true and have cosmetic dentistry. Most people wouldn't need 12 teeth done!, But my smile is so big, I wanted to be able to smile with 100% confidence. And I do! I first considered Dr. Campo because of his positive reviews. Plus, his prices are comparable to other dentists. When I called his office for the first time, the receptionist, Karen, was very helpful, and patiently answered all my questions. I was very impressed with Dr. Campo at the initial consultation. He's personable, and listened to me, addressing all my concerns. Also got the impression that Dr. Campo truly loves what he does. Plus, he's up to date with modern equipment and techniques. (I heard through the grape vine that Dr. Campo graduated top of his class! Nice!) Melinda, Dr. C's dental assistant, is sweet, intelligent, and very talented at making temporaries. The temps she fashioned for me looked very natural! I never felt like had to avoid smiling during that time. (FYI, the temps, veneers and crowns were based on the shape of my original teeth. The size, shape and spacing of my teeth didn't need to be changed all that much. We made a few modifications, but nothing drastic. So don't worry! Your new teeth won't look like chiclets!)
