I'll start by saying I think that Dr. Campbell means well and is overall a decent person. I saw her on and off for years before I had any issues. She gave me a very generous discount on orthotics. She was very kind, at first, all the time. I started noticing small things gradually and eventually things...blew up. Let me also say, #4 could have totally been avoided had she just admitted a miscommunication may have happened (no matter who was at fault) and tried to find way to help.
1. She spoke badly about a patient in front of me and although she didn't mention any names or personal information, I did not think it was very tactful.
2. At times she comes off as condescending. I don't think she means to, but it got to the point where I was planning on finding a new doctor because I wasn't comfortable asking her questions anymore.
3. She spoke about politics at length during 2 of my appointments (ingrown toenail surgery, and casting my feet for orthotics).
4. This is a long one. I had been out of work for few weeks due to tendinitis in my ankle. I had this particular appointment the week before I was expected back at work (she had written me a note to excuse me from work that expired the following week). I knew I was picking up my orthotics at this appointment, but I did NOT know it was an "orthotics only" appointment. I was confused because Dr. Campbell had told me my ankle needed to be better before I started wearing the orthotics (it wasn't) and I needed to wear the orthotics for a week before I went back to work to get used to them.
I explained to the assistant that I did not feel I would be able to return to work the following week, and I needed a new note for work. She told me Dr. did not have time to see me or write anything for me. I was already very frustrated and near tears because the tendinitis had been going on for a while. But I understand miscommunication happens. I walked out to the rec. desk and just figured I'd call back later and see if we could figure something out. It was then that Dr. Campbell, who didn't have time to see me, came out of her office to repeat to me that she didn't have time to do anything for me. I told her, "I understand, I just wish I had known this was an orthotics only appointment." She told me it had been explained to me. It had not. I know because I knew this was the last appointment before I was expected back at my job, and logically we needed to confirm that my ankle was fine. I would have said something if I had known I wouldn't be seeing the doctor at that appointment.
Once she said that it had been explained to me, it was clear I was holding back tears and she told me "You're getting upset. Don't get upset." This just made me start crying. I was very frustrated, which I told her and all she did was blame me for misunderstanding. I tried explaining why I needed a new and she just kept cutting me off and not hearing me, so I began to raise my voice a bit to try to be heard. She cut me off again and told me not to yell at her. Apparently I was still talking too loud (there was another patient nearby) so she furiously marched me into an exam room, pointed at the chair and shouted "SIT DOWN" at me like I was a child she was about to scold. I told her she can't talk to patients like that and turned to walk out but she kept talking I turned back around. I don't fully remember what was said at this point except for a couple of things. I had repeated that I did not feel the purpose of the appointment had been explained to me adequately, and she responded with "Well, I'm sorry (assistant's name) didn't explain it to you." To which I responded, "You can't blame her, she wasn't even here at my last appointment!" I remembered that she wasn't because they had apologized for being so busy, because the assistant was out that day. She yelled for me to come back in 2 weeks. I left in tears and immediately found a new doctor.
There were a few other issues but I think I've said enough. Overall, I think she has issues taking accountability when a mistake is made. You'll probably be fine if you only see her once or twice. I would not recommend her for long term care. I've never been treated or spoken to like that by a doctor before. read more
