My review is about the overnight/resident camp. This camp is so far off of what is advertised on…read morethe website and apparently no amount of research (I thought I was thorough) can prepare you. There were only 2 cabins of children... one boys, one girls, all ages, attached, with one female counselor between the 2, so connecting doors were left open at night. After the day campers left, that one counselor was also the lifeguard, the activities director, the cook. There were ZERO campfires in the evenings. Instead they were put in front of a movie 3 of the 5 nights... with microwaved s'mores and frozen pizza one night. They did not get to pick their activities... horseback riding, archery, games, sports, outdoor cooking, fishing were not offered. They attended prescribed activities that were mostly the same every day. There was no teambuilding, no traditions, no fun clubs, nothing that we were expecting. Kids told to 'stop crying' if they were homesick. I even emailed prior with a couple questions that would have given the perfect opportunity to set the expectation and let the parent decide if this type of environment was right for our children. So disappointed in this camp, which I know USED to be good bc I went there as a kid. So disappointed in the YMCA for not doing better and for ruining my daughter's idea of overnight camp.

Our daughter Danika has been going to the overnight camps going on her 6th summer now. It being closed last year due to the pandemic was probably the worst transition our daughter went thru during these uncertain times. If you live in the Quad Cities the you heard the scream from Danika's mouth when she heard "Papa Smurfs "voice when I answered the phone. We drop our little girl off & her dad cries every time cuz this is his baby but we know she's safe & she comes home with so much knowledge & understanding. She feels so peaceful while at camp. She's not afraid to try new things. We've never been turned away when we've struggled to pay for camp. This is the best thing you can do for your children is send them to Camp Abe Lincoln. They don't have any electronics but you can email them & Nicks up bright and early printing them off before 5am so your camper gets them every morning at breakfast time. Please look into it. You will Not regret it. Thank you Nick & all the staff

Meadowsweet Ranch…read more Wow! I cannot say enough good things about the staff and the program at Meadowsweet Ranch. I live over an hour away from Spring Grove, yet made the journey for my daughter who is an avid horse lover. She recently went for Spring Camp, and while it was only two days, she met other campers who have the same passion as her HORSES. She told me the day we left, "Mom hurry up! You need to sign me up for the summer before it is full!" She enjoyed riding, grooming and especially cleaning the hooves of the horses. I have always told her that riding a horse is a privilege and not a right. Horses need to be respected and that was fully reinforced at Meadowsweet Ranch. The safety of the children is priority, which is why the HORSE comes first. Crafts and activities planned with the other campers were appropriate, and the ranch feel is definitely welcoming. My only request is that I would have liked more feedback on the day of the camp to know what my daughter did that day. I guess no news is good news! Most importantly for me is that she LOVED it and we will definitely be back for on of the 3 summer sessions.

She talked about how much fun she has had and how much she has learned. She has been wanting to spend more time with the horses at the ranch. So we may have to sign her up for more lessons :) The staff & counselors are so kind, friendly, and wonderful! Thanks Meadowsweet Ranch for providing such a great experience for our daughter!

TL:DR - Great value, fun and easy ride, would definitely come back…read more ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Pricing was about expected for a trail ride. Booking and paying online was easy. Printed the waiver and brought it in. We arrived 15 min early as requested, but no one was in the office. Had to ask someone to get a worker, and someone finally came in 5 min after or scheduled time. A little annoying, but the rest of the trail ride was great, so water under the bridge. Brandi and Bethany helped us on our horses (Pengo and Spartan) and gave us a quick run down of how to guide the horses. The horses were very easy to ride, each with their own amusing personalities. Our trail guide was friendly, answered any questions we had (we were the only riders), and pointed out a few of the other resident horses and little tid bits about them. Also gave us some space to really just enjoy the ride, which was perfect. The trail itself was a basic trail that traversed the Galena territory, went by some houses, up and down some gentle hills. We got back after an hour and they took some photos for us. All in all, it was a great ride and we wouldn't hesitate to come back in the future.
