A reliable non-kid source who was present also told me the kids are rushed around. I don't get it. This camp is supposed to be fun. Kids don't move as fast, especially the younger kids. Why do you have to rush them around everywhere? They also had weekly field trips which was nice. The would go to the Palos pool sometimes, went to Lincoln Park zoo one time, another time went to Beverly Art Center. That was nice. I just don't get why the kids who are wearing back packs, carrying water bottle and their lunch are being told to walk faster. You don't need to rush kids on to the next thing. Connect with them, and encourage them to the next thing. You should really make time accommodations knowing the younger kids especially, will move slower. My kids were stressed out about this part. Not sure why the people in charge facilitate this "move faster" approach. Also, I wish they would reapply sunblock. These kids are outside marching around on often 90 degree hot summer days, could we maybe actually re-apply the sunblock? I give it 2.5 stars.

The membership fee there is half of the "full" membership cost here. Based on the attendance I witnessed here today; 5 assumed full members using the machines and three people walking, and at least 4 staff members, there is NO WAY that this facility generates enough money to be self supporting. My 4 year old received so many punitive responses from her Montessori teacher she hated the center and tried to run out often. She did not receive a warm welcome which would have went a very long way with a 4 year old little girl. Me being an educator myself expected to see teachers who had a genuine passion and disposition for working with energetic children, NOPE! I was actually pulled to the side by a staff member who informed me that the staff, including the k-4 teacher was "targeting my kids"!!! My 4 year old was suspended and a couple weeks later kicked out!!! Maybe IVY league is great for some, maybe many, BUT I don't think they are a good fit for any high energy, vicarious, "child of color" or minority child. It is apparent this location lacks experience working with Diverse families.

We always end up seeing some kind of nature, whether it's deer, chipmunks, squirrels, fish, frogs, turtles, etc. There is always something new to see. Over my years of coming here it has grown to have larger building with more interactive things for people of all ages. Trails are well maintained. Staff is friendly and helpful. We will definitely be back for more hiking soon. One can explore the old Nature Center with historical facts or the new Nature Center with a kid's play area and animal exhibit. The snapping turtles were an absolute hit with my niece and nephews! Outside, there are two owls and a hawk as well as two nature trails and some kid's activities. Each trail is maybe 0.5 miles and 1.3 miles which is perfect for kids. Along the trails, be sure to stop at the lookouts to enjoy the views. They even have short peeking slots for the kids. I had the best time visiting Little Red Schoolhouse and seeing all their updates from when I last visited as a kid. Highly recommend for all!

Terrible communication. Signed up for this camp & never received a confirmation email or any…read moreinformation on what we needed to bring or what the weekly themes were. I thought maybe I missed the email, so I tried calling them to get information and couldn't get through on the phone. My son has complex allergies, and there wasn't a professional system in place to handle those needs and medication. It seemed like they expected us to just show up and let one of the 18 year old staffmembers know in person, hand over his lunch box and epipen, and call it a day. Then the actual camp. My son hated it... thought the activities were boring, that it was basically like school with having to sit and pay attention to mandatory projects that weren't very fun. When he didn't want to participate, no alternative activity was available to him so he just sat in a corner and cried. We were told this at pick up, but no one thought to call us during the day to let us know that our kid was distraught for hours. After 2 or 3 days the site manager called us to let us know that our child wasn't welcome back because he was too difficult, and they "weren't able to accommodate children with additional needs." The difficulty was he refused to participate in science projects he found boring. My child also had no diagnosed or reported additional needs, but they came to that conclusion themselves. I could also hear my child in the background: they actually called us and told us that he was difficult and they suspected he had special needs *in front of him*. My husband obviously rushed to pick him up from that awful place. At pickup she actually yelled at my son to stop wriggling in the chair in front of my husband, and he told sternly told her that he would take care of his child's discipline from that point on. I would never recommend any child be sent to this place. Especially if your child has an ounce of personality and opinions about what they like to do. He is going to a different day came in the area this year (that actually costs less), and the difference has been like night and day. I actually got a phone call from the owner to personally go over his allergies ahead of time---can't describe the relief of feeling that my child is actually with a responsible, caring adult.

It's a tough place to do pick up and drop off Middlefield is busy, especially at 9 AM, making it a little chaotic. But, I found them to be overall pretty organized. But sadly my daughter thought the camp wasn't very good. And that's my main parameter for deciding on the success of the camp. If the kid is happy in the summer, then mom is happy. And she wasn't. It was an African Safari theme and I think she expected more from it. It seemed very loosely themed. I had a lot of trouble getting her to go in morning after the first day. She also complained that all the kids in her group were younger than her, which may or may not have been true, but her perception was that she wasn't really with kids her age. That's kind of out of their control as they have to set age ranges for the camps, but she said it felt babyish. She did like water day but she could have had that at other camps too. I specifically signed her up for Safari camp because she is a huge animal lover and we were disappointed.
