Secluded. Private. Girls only. Been around since 1945. Overnight summer camp in 4, 8 week sessions…read more I attended for 20 years, both as a camper and on staff, and it helped shape who I became. Not only does a young girl learn to live with other girls in nature, but she learns to live simplisticly and without the worldly distractions and pressures. Morals are instilled. Athletics are taught. And a girl leaves summer camp with an abundance of friends, love for the outdoors, and a sense of being a good, moral person with good sportsmanship, skills and talents. Please, if you have ANY questions, let me know.

I went to Monterey for 6 years in the early 60's and I truly think that it made me the person that…read moreI became. I learned things to do there that I never would have learned anywhere else. When I went you could go for either 4 or 8 weeks. Because I was 7 or 8 the first summer my parents sent me for 4 weeks thinking that it was a long enough time. Wrong! When the time came to leave I didn't want to go so.....I didn't get on the bus! Miss Dollie called my folks to explain and they let me stay the whole time. It was wonderful! So - what do you learn beside the usual camp activities? Looking back I can honestly say that I learned teamwork, independence, honesty, diligence, compassion, leadership, how to win - and lose - graciously, introspection, spirituality, self-confidence, this list goes on and on. When I had a daughter of my own she also went to Monterey. She now has a daughter and guess who's going when she's old enough? Monterey was founded by a wonderful woman named Dollie Williams. We all called her Miss Dollie. For those of you with sons, do not despair! Miss Dollie had a son - Malcolm - and he founded the boys' camp - Camp Country Lad. It's close to Monterey and is a mirror of Monterey built for boys. I'm older now and the world is a different place. I urge you to consider this opportunity for your daughter. It will definitely make a difference in her life. Be prepared - you may not get the same girl back that you send but what you will get is a wonderful child that will be source of pride and love forever. She will shine!

One counsellor in particular stands out in my memory from 1956. His name was Mr Hilton Jarvis. Always kind. Thoughtful in the way he taught you and looked after you during the day's activities. I recall I earned 1st prize in archery. 5 bullseyes--dead center all and not a 1/2 an inch separating the shafts. --Michael Eaton Haynes

They are glowing...raving....singing this camps praises.....and they stink to high heaven!!! I asked how many times they bathed.....ZERO! I mean what do you expect?! I haven't heard all the details but a word to the wise. Fill their accounts with $15....not $25. They're only allowed to buy 2 snacks a day....mine had $15 left over at the end of the week so he basically bought out the snack shack in the form of skittles, Reece's and a couple Dr Pepper. :) Make sure to remember the big spray (not that mine used a drop) one found a live tick crawling on him the second he entered the car :/. On the spiritual front they worshipped every day!!!! And read their bibles! They didn't use the journals we bought special for camp (at the camp's request) so there's that. I wish the leaders would've made them make time for journaling. It such a powerful life lesson and I haven't been able to make it stick at home. That's my only beef. And the lack of cleanliness. I mean my son fished EVERY DAY! Just saying:) Anyway, I'm planning on booking a week next year for sure!!!! Send your kids! Have a weeklong marriage retreat at home! You're welcome!!!! Only advice to the camp. Y'all could make the process better for parents by keeping up with the Facebook page while they're away so parents can see what's going on. Also, have a farewell letter or email to parents recapping how the week went overall....just a couple thoughts. The place is Uber laid back and chill which we just LOVE!!! Thanks a bunch!
