The Camp is 300+ acres of nature on Lake Keesus with lots of trails and woods to explore. Add in cabins, activities, great staff and endless options for campers to fill their days and you have Camp Whitcomb Mason. I live next door and have the pleasure of hearing the happy sounds of campers and school groups alike both on the lake and on the grounds. 2023 brought a new and fantastic High Ropes Course and even more camp sessions, all spots of which filled up quickly. I love hiking the trails and seeing the wildlife. The boardwalk is a hidden gem and if you are lucky you will find the bear and dragon (nope, not real but fun to look for.) School and private groups attend the camp throughout the year, not just during the summer months so expect to see and hear happy people. Contact the camp office for specific information about hiking in the camp just to make sure there are no restrictions at any time. And if you bring a dog, bring a leash and your poop bags and clean up after yourselves. Keep the camp clean and healthy for everyone. If you want to have your child attend a camp session in the summer you better sign up quickly. Spots fill up fast.

BEWARE - Not Safe or Suitable for First-Time Campers…read more This camp was a traumatic experience for my son and his friend, who was attending sleepaway camp for the first time. The accommodations were extremely poor--my son described cracks in the floors where you could see the ground, spider webs everywhere, and a general sense of neglect. Campers were not allowed to use outlets to charge personal fans, even though temperatures reached 100 degrees. Twenty people were crammed into one un-airconditioned bunkhouse. Meanwhile, counselors were using outlets for their phones and had snacks and energy drinks in the cabin--despite a stated no-food policy. My son also mentioned that counselors slept on both sides of him, which he found unsettling. He didn't shower the entire time because of long lines and limited availability. He was so relieved just to shower when he got home. Cabins were not locked at night, and the tent accommodations were practically open to the elements--walls weren't even attached, so without a net, campers were exposed to bugs and the outdoors. Everything felt bare bones and worn out, like it hadn't been updated in 100 years. The camp seems to have invested in a new shelter, but neglected critical needs like air conditioning or an improved commissary. The food was limited, and my son, a normally good eater, barely ate. Snack shop lines were 40-50 kids long--completely disorganized. Adding water misters or a pool would help with the extreme heat, especially since the lake was brown and murky. My son refused to swim in it--he loves the water, so this speaks volumes. Because he didn't take the swim test in that water, he was not allowed to use most boats--even with a life jacket. At night, it was pitch black. No nightlights, no reading quietly in bed--just total darkness, which scared him. He was even yelled at for running--apparently, there's a no-running policy. That completely baffled me. The only bright spot was the nursing staff--my son felt well taken care of medically. But overall, the experience was very upsetting. I received an alarming note three days after drop-off and had to pick him up early. We were forced into a full-week session (the only available slot), even though we preferred the half-week. So we lost money on top of everything else. When I asked a counselor about how he did, I got no feedback. They didn't even consult with the counselors who were actually with my son. Later, he told me he was hit in the head with a golf club--yet no incident report or communication was ever sent to us. In conclusion: If your child is new to sleepaway camp, this is NOT the place for them. The accommodations are poor, the rules are confusing, and the supervision questionable. My son was in tears at pick-up and continued to tear up throughout the evening as we talked about his experience.

After two phone calls to the Director, a conversation with the Director, other phone calls to staff, and multiple emails, I still have not received resolution. As for the experience, I would suggest searching out other camps that offer better food, activities, and accommodations that cost less than what was charged. I do not recommend this place for a great camp experience.

But I would be remiss if I did not mention some of the things that have been consistent issues with this facility and have become a grander annoyance to myself and other members recently. The biggest issue at this location is with maintenance. Things are constantly falling apart or breaking here. For example, in the last 4 months their leg sled machine in the free weight area was broken. They had an "equipment out of order" tag on for literally months. The issue itself was quite simple, the pin on the seat height adjuster just needs a new spring to keep it locked in. Well, such a simple fix went ignored for months. I come here almost everyday and I never once saw anyone try to fix it. Instead, after literally months, the "equipment out of order" sign just disappeared one day. Though *unsurprisingly*, no one had actually fixed it. I watched as multiple members hopped on the machine (myself included) and got quite the scare when the pin totally gave out and the seat slammed back under the weight of the sled. This is dangerous. I have occasionally seen some guy who looks like a third party maintenance worker occasionally stroll through the facility, but I have never once seen him actually fix anything. Same thing with some of their cardio equipment. They have a stair climber machine that has had an out of order tag on for going on close to a year now. Idk if they lease this equipment or if they totally own it, but regardless, they need to have someone either fix it or just get a replacement, as there's only three other stair climbers and depending on the time of the day, you may not be able to get on one. Minor thing, but it's just a pile on to the grander issue of things just left broken for months on end. The pool. I am not someone who uses the pool. But there are a lot of members that do. And at least twice a week, the pool is "broken". Same with the men's whirlpool. They seem to be better about getting these types of problems fixed much quicker than some of the exercise equipment. But the fact that it's constantly breaking tells me the entire system probably needs an overhaul, and is just being repeatedly band aid fixed. Understandable though, I can't imagine the cost to have it fully reoutfitted. The hours. This gym clearly is catering to the elderly populous that largely inhabits the Menomonee falls area, and as such, closes earlier than any other gym in the area. This may not be a problem if your bed time is 8pm, but if you're under the age of 60, you can appreciate still being able to go to the gym later at night, because on the weekends, they're only open until 4pm. And this changes depending on the season. It's just annoying having to keep up with the constantly changing hours when all their competitors are either 24 hours or cater to everyone rather than one demographic. All that said, it has everything I need, and the other members have generally been good people.
