This camp is amazing! I took my child to this camp last summer and he had a blast. I even took a tour through the camp and there is so much amazing activities to do! there is archer, rock climbing, swimming, arts and crafts, and so much more! If I could give them 0 stars I would!! DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD HERE! I would not send your child to this camp if you want to leave your child in the hands of irresponsible adults and unsafe circumstances. The amount of respect the staff gives you is minimal. Many senior staff members are overwhelmed with drama and don't have time to recognize children who aren't enjoying their experience. Although this wasn't necessarily the case for me because I spent the entire day at that camp at the lower office trying to contact my parents, and the only way the staff took me seriously is if I spoke to the owner of the camp. For many kids who aren't enjoying their selves but don't want to be a bother, this is hard for them. To call your parents you have to beg and threaten or else they won't let you. Girls brought drugs and contraband in my cabin that I made extremely clear to the staff and even after searching throughly they couldn't find it. A senior staff member sexually assaulted an autistic kid and from my knowledge, law enforcement wasn't involved but rather he was fired and sent home. A counselor was severely burnt after being forced to set up the Fourth of July fireworks and pretty much half of his face is gone. Everyday I would overhear conversations of counselors hating their jobs or how unorganized and stressful this camp is and A counselor even told me she wanted to kill herself. I tried to enjoy myself but the process of add drop is so dumb and most days I had to end up sitting down at activities doing nothing because of the overflowing amount of children attending that camp. I did quad riding which you have to pre pay for and as soon as I got of the quad a counselor got on it and said "this thing has seven bolts missing and is about to blow up!". The food isn't even bad and not a reason why I had enough, although they aren't the most balanced meals or delicious, they work and fuel your body. I left early because of the extremely unsafe and overwhelming environment. I left with 4 other girls in my cabin that day and 3 girls left the day before. Exactly 2 days after I left, my entire cabin caught on fire, although everyone's safe, no one's things were recovered. Everyday I was told this was the worst session ever and they felt bad for me , but regardless of all of the help and support nothing could've stopped me from leaving. Many girls have attended her for 8 years plus and I can understand as a child this may be a good place because all of the drama just blows past your ears. But when you're constantly aware of everything wrong with this camp, you feel trapped. When you want to leave their entire goal is to "make sure you're having a great time" and they assure you everything will get better. I wish I saw a review like this one before I left, and I know it's hard to believe but it's completely true and unfortunate. They just want to keep you there so you don't leave early and get a refund. I regret wanting to come to this camp because I had such high expectations but I was seriously let down. read more

Worst camp ever! Pay is terrible. Not a good place to work at if you are looking to work here it is not the place you want to be at. Owner and Directors beneath him is extremely rude!!! Seen many staff crying because of dealing with the owner. Unprofessional environment always constant drama. They say you can do all the activities, but if you are staff you can't do the fun activities like jetski and horseback riding which are activities many people want to do. The camp was completely understaffed. They also advertise 65 plus activities, but there is only actually 15 active activities. Wanted to work a summer job before going back to college I would never return had to deextend and leave early. The owner made it difficult for me to drop me off back at the Scranton airport he told me to change my flight and then I had to reexplain the whole reason I changed my flight so that they could drop me off. They had no problem picking me up when I got hired I had to end up sleeping overnight at the airport. Do not go to this camp. The cabins were disgusting on my arrival day it was NOT decently cleaned enough for someone to move in and sleep. My campers got impetigo as well. Many counselors quit and deextended with me during the sessions I was working there. The counselors were the only good part about it because we were all going through the same struggles. I went this summer starting in June 2021. Please listen to the actual tougher reviews that are not just five star they really are telling the truth about how the camp actually is. I have had the privilege of calling Camp Lohikan my summer home for eight years as a staff member. One word comes to mind when I think of Lohikan and that is "family". The directors, head instructors, and counselors all play a part in creating this environment for the campers. Over the years I have seen junior campers turn into senior campers and develop lifelong friendships. The only bad thing about camp is that it only lasts the summer and goodbyes aren't easy! Lohikan literally has something for every kid regardless of his or her interests. There is a wide variety of activities to choose from and the flexibility in scheduling for kids to literally try something new every day they are at camp. I highly recommend Camp Lohikan as a wonderful place to spend the summer, whether as a staff member or a camper. I started attending Lohikan as a shy 14 year old camper. I was terrified to leave home and was extremely nervous. It is eight years later and I can proudly call Lohikan my home. From attending as a camper, CIT, and counselor Lohikan has shaped me into the person I am today. This is my son's fourth year here and we love it. He usually goes for four to six weeks at a time. Kids have lots of activities to choose from and they have a medical staff 24 hours a day. The counselors interact with the boys on a regular basis to check in on them. Boys also have a chance to pick their bunk mate for returning campers. I was the typical nervouse mom his first year, but the staff was super accomodating. Would recommend to any parent wanting a truly fun filled summer for their child. read more

First time camper just finished the two week session late July. I would say it was successful. Was it perfect? No, but you can't expect that. She had fun, got lucky with an amazing cabin full of super nice girls all going into 7th grade. No personality clashes whatsoever. Counselors were both fantastic though one of the CITs was not so great. A big plus for Lohikan is that for the 2 week sessions the kids are placed in a bunk only with other two-weekers. They all come in on the same page so I think any clique issues are minimized or eliminated. My impressions of the other girls were that they were all just your regular kind of kids. I had seen some reviews that mentioned prep school Abercrombie bs but I didn't see or hear about any of that. Cabins are rustic but no surprise there. Activities are amazing but there was some issues with scheduling and sometimes the activity juggling leaves no good options. This got her upset one day but Mark was able to assist somewhat. Not ideal but...like I said I wasn't expecting perfect, just a fun and positive experience. The lake was a big hit though there were some equipment issues with the log and the iceberg on the final days. Also the kneeboarding was not up and running part of the time and that was disappointing. We eat pretty healthy and fresh at home so I think the food got old pretty fast for her. Typical camp food I think, nothing awful but definitely not gourmet or super fresh. Usually loves oatmeal but said one day they had oatmeal and it was gross. Hard to mess up oatmeal or farina....hmm. Didn't expect gourmet though so no surprise. Helpful to bring case of bottled water to stash under bed and snacks like Mac 'n Cheese single serve. Single serve snacks are good like crackers and such, she was glad I sent them. Hot water is available. She found it helpful to have some small plastic bins for nail polish, cards and even socks and such. I picked up narrow bins for under bed storage too and they fit fine. She definitely wants to return next year fur two weeks again so I am glad we chose Lohikan. Hoping we can coordinate with same great group of girls again. read more

Visiting day at Camp Lohikan was fun. I went here as a kid so it's really weird to have one of my kids as a camper here. The camp is huge and has tons of activities. Lake and pool swimming, boats, jet skis, bungee, trampolines, tennis, baseball, basketball, circus, drama, arts & crafts, cooking, paint ball, etc. They had a barbecue of burgers, dogs and chicken which were all decent. It was hotter than hell but you can't control the weather. Camp was easy to get to and I know my child will be returning next year. read more

Our son LOVED his 2 weeks at Camp Lohikan. He just returned Saturday and can't wait to go back next year. He's a middle schooler who went alone to sleepaway for the first time. He went alone and made tons of friends immediately. He said the activities were awesome and his counselors were great. He had kids from all over the country and world in his cabin and they all got along well. We are thrilled with this place and our son will definitely be returning next year. Where to begin? Camp is incredible! I've never had so much fun and done some many new things! At camp Lohikan there is an opportunity to every kid. Whether they are artists,champion horse rider people whatever lol you name this camp has it. My favorite thing that I got to try was the trapeze in the circus area! I felt so cool flying high above the net (with my safety cable of course :]) If you are looking for a place where you can meet life long friends and do incredible things this is the place! Updating my initial review. We have decide to switch camps this year due to the lack of response from the camp administrators. This is not really the family environment we had hoped for. Last year the photos showed girls in clothes that I did not feel were appropriate for a co-Ed camp with kids ranging from 7 - 16. They posted photos daily of boys and girls hanging all over each other. Just poor judgement overall is how I would categorize it. There was a Sammy Hawkins tag game where the boys ran after the girls with marriage certificates. They didn't say each girl gets one so some girls could get 8 certificates while other got none. My daughter got several and it turned her cabin mates against her and left other girls feeling sad, upset and competitive because they didn't get any. The boys then were saying things like "now we are married" to my daughter who was 8. Why would you put children in this position? Why would you have boys chasing down girls like predators in this day and age? Why would you encourage competition between girls rather than fostering friendship? Why after emails and a response to your survey ASKING for someone to contact me would you not reply? In addition, kids that were interested in the same sex would have been left out of this activity. I don't want to shelter my children but they have plenty of time to be boy or girl crazy. We sent them to camp to be kids. To have fun. To make bonds for life. This isn't how we felt after this past year. To their credit, my kids had fun. As a parent, this just wasn't the type of environment I wanted for them. Their new camp is twice the cost but smaller and I feel that they are focused on kids being kids. They have plenty of time to be adults. read more

My boys love Camp Lohikan! Their counselors and division director have been fabulous this summer. They have been very responsive to their needs and have been wonderful mentors. The boys LOVE getting to choose all their own activities each day, so they can spend as much time at an activity as they want. And the staff at each activity are professionals in their field. I am happy to say that Camp Lohikan is their home away from home, and while I miss them while they are gone, I am so happy knowing that they are having a great time. Several years ago, my husband and I sent our 3 children (7, 11 and 14) to Lohikan. All three had absolutely horrible experiences. My younger son was extremely homesick. After the mandatory period of no contact with the parents so the kids could adjust, our younger son tried to call us. He was absolutely miserable due to the abusive behavior of the counselors. My son wanted to come home, and the counselors made fun of him. The staff refused to let him call us. He finally ended up using a pay phone at an Amusement park. He begged us to bring him home. We picked him up the next day. The head of the camp was incredibly nasty, and claimed that our son had been completely happy. In addition, one of his bunkmates sprained his ankle and wanted to go home. The staff refused to let the child call his grandmother whom he lived with. I called the grandmother myself to notify her. My daughter was bullied by her bunkmates. The counselors stood by and did nothing. When I picked my son up, we were told that the refund period had passed. Considering the camps refusal to let my son contact us, the response was pretty outrageous. We were absolutely disgusted at the obvious lack of care and compassion on the part of the Lohikan staff. The camp was clearly more concerned about keeping the money than caring for the campers who were entrusted to their care. read more

Been involved with Camp Lohikan for six years now. Wonderful camp. People just have to remember that the counselors don't raise the kids. Counselors have the kids for 2 to 8 weeks out of the whole year. The staff is well trained (most senior staff members are teachers) and knowing the specific counselors personally I would know that the previous issue brought out by social media is the last type of behavior that these counselors would encourage, not to mention most of our counselors are Jewish themselves. Most of what has been reviewed on this page is false and blown out of proportion. The situation was handled immediately and appropriately, and the teenager who did the bullying was disciplined appropriately. The family that was targeted chose to keep the other child in Camp because he loves it there. Keep that in consideration. read more

We do send him with a bunch of snacks to eat and share with friends; from what I hear the food their is not "gourmet" but come on, this is summer camp!!! My daughter loves Camp Lohikan and after spending 4 weeks her first year, she has consistently requested to stay for the entire summer. The summer of 2019 will be her fourth year there! The administrative staff is very accommodating and wants to make the experience good for both the kids and the parents. Our daughter finds the camp a good break from the drama of both Middle School and High School. She feels very comfortable at Lohikan and stays in touch with many of her friends throughout the year. Her favorite activity by far is Circus and we've enjoyed attending the circus shows and watching her soar in the air. While I certainly want her to enjoy the summer, most importantly, I feel that she is safe at Lohikan. She is looking forward to seeing her friends again this coming summer. read more

Our son went to Lohikan for 2-weeks this past summer after a personal recommendation from a friend at his school. He had a blast and there hasn't been a day that he's not been talking about his time there. He made a lot of great friends, some near to home, some further away, and came home with more independence and confidence. The staff were very helpful both before and during the summer, and I love that the camp uploads a lot of photos every day - it really helps with my first time parent worries. The director is an absentee director and it is virtually impossible to get him or even a division leader on the phone when doing a simple check in on your child. Had a call scheduled with my child and was on hold for 45 minutes until they figured out she was at an intramural game at another camp. Spoke to a camp expert after the summer and they said they rep the camp but would NEVER recommend it. Too "loosey goosey" and I am surprised they never lost a kid". read more

Our daughter went here for the first time last summer and hated it. Activities are plenty, but totally overbooked. With literally hundreds of kids aged 6 to 16, and counselors incapable or unwilling to control things, chaos abounds. Nowhere to relax and extremely cliquey in the teen bunks. Girls bully other girls for attention of the boys. My daughter was actually threatened to stay away from a certain group "or else". Luckily she called us from a borrowed cell phone in the bathroom (calls home are not permitted) and begged us in tears to get her. We withdrew her after 3days. They offer a "satisfaction guarantee" and money returned if your child withdraws for any reason. It's been 3 months and the $ has yet to be refunded and we have received no replies or customer care from the camp staff. Dreadful. It was the worst experience we have ever had with a kids program. read more

Camp Lohikan is the BEST camp in the poconos. I sent my two oldest sons this summer and it was an experience of a lifetime. From the administration to the staff we were given the royal treatment just like every other camper. My boys are 11 and 8 and had the time of their lives. My 11 year old was in the intermediates and loved the ability to choose what he wanted to do every day. He got high quality instruction in his favorite sports including personalized workout sessions to keep him in shape for the competitive sports he plays during the year. My 8 year old loved his cabin mates and his counselors. The junior program is great for younger kids because it gives them structure and helps build social skills with their cabin mates. We have two more boys and we plan on sending them in the next few years. Our boys will be back at Lohikan for years to come. This is by far the best camp in the poconos and we checked out many and Lohikan surpassed them all!!! read more
