My son attended in Commerce TX about 6 years ago. He loved it. That being said, I can agree with other reviews that there is not as much supervision and structure as I would have liked. We really liked the staff, but in honesty they were pretty much just young musicians who signed on to make a little extra money and are not necessarily used to taking care of kids for a week. I was a little surprised that they basically stuck 4 teenage boys in what is essentially a dorm apartment and they did as they pleased for the whole time. When we went to pick the boys up from camp, one of them had flooded the first floor apartment by stopping up the toilet. There was 2 inches of standing water in the apartment. We asked how long it had been like that and they said at least 2 days. They lived in toilet water for 2 solid days. Walked through it from room to room, with the water level above the carpet, mind you. It splashed when you walked. Im not kidding. I'm not sure who I was angrier at. Kids do ridiculously dumb things. Did they tell the staff? Did the kids do everything they should have done to alert the staff to a serious maintenance problem? Was it an accident or intentional? Does that old building have regular maintenance issues? I have no idea. What I do know is that there was obviously no one checking the apartment where the kids were staying which tells me that ANYTHING could be going on in there, so keep that in mind. read more

Camp Jam refused to return our $1,000 deposit when my son was unable to attend camp last summer. They didn't feed him, house him, or teach him, but they kept every penny. Be careful doing business with them. read more

Worst camp ever - they had inattentive counselors who sold kids candy for $5 for their personal profit, the bands were unsupervised and my son learned nothing at all about music, and no one informed me that my kid was punched so hard he lost two teeth. Please do not send your child here. read more

Camp Jam Fullerton last summer was fine. My 14 year old made a number of friends and enjoyed performing rock songs although the experience was not in any way musically challenging. Kid learned that a some friends would attend again this year and so we signed up in March for this summer camp. Everything is planned, including flights to LA and hotel for after the final concert. Two weeks before camp is to start the call comes : "sorry, your child cannot attend Camp Jam". The caller is Steve Freeman the camp VP and he says he can't provide any information except to say our kid is out. No information. Whatsoever. Was it something that happened last year? Steve can't say. Was it bullying? Sex? Drugs? Steve doesn't have any information that can be shared. Kid also has no clue. After numerous calls we finally get a refund, but NOTHING more about why our child was disenrolled at the last minute. What happened? And more importantly - why isn't that information shared with parents? Bottom line, if you send your child don't expect answers to your questions, staff support, or sharing of information. And if your child has a great time and you reserve a spot for next summer be sure to have some options in case the camp manager arbitrarily decides to cancel you at the last minute. read more

Do not send your younger children to this camp, especially if they are girls!!! Please. There is very little (if any) adult supervision. For 16 and 17 year olds, it is probably fine, but any younger than that avoid, especially if female!!! read more

This camp rocks. I've been sending my brother's kids to summer camp for years, and after sending them to this camp a few years ago, there's been no looking back. They've gone to Camp Jam in another city for a few years, and Atlanta last year. Great experiences, they have a blast and I seriously can't believe how good they've become. WAY better than I was when I was their age. Heck, better than I am now! I'm now the coolest uncle in the world and my brother and his wife get a week to themselves in the Summer. Just signed them up again this year and felt compelled to comment. Highly recommended! read more

I am 15 years old and I decided to go to camp jam about a week ago. I've been playing music for about 6 years and I also attend a performing arts school for singing, so I thought this would be a good way to expand my knowledge on music. I had also never been to the camp before, so I also thought this would be a good way to meet people who share interests similar to mine. I arrived at the camp in the late afternoon with my mom. First, we handed in my paperwork, unload my equipment, and were later given directions to the dorms. During this, I was able to meet some of the staff members as well as some campers. Everybody seemed friendly for the most part. When I got to my dorm and unloaded my stuff, I met my roommate who was also a new camper. When my mom left, me and my roommate decided to go meet some other campers (keep in mind: everybody is in the same dorm). We stood in the hallway trying to start conversation with some other kids but we were rudely ignored by almost everybody except for the two girls across the hall, who were also new. As far as the campers and counselors go, this continued all week. Nobody was welcoming, and they didn't speak to us unless they had to. I could write for hours about the negative experiences that I had at this camp but I am going to keep this as brief as I can. Basically, I did not feel welcome by the campers or the counselors. Nobody asked me what I thought about anything, told me "good job!" after performing, or helped me with anything. I was on my own for most of the week. If I am being honest, I have no idea why the staff were even there. Musically, this camp taught me absolutely nothing. I was put in a band with a bunch of other kids, given a specific room where I could rehearse, and that was it. I wasn't given any tips or advice on how to play or sing. When I left the camp, I did not see any improvement in my singing or playing. What's kind of funny is that the staff members had really impressive musical backgrounds, but a bum off of the street could have done their job just as well. If you are somebody who has never been to this camp and is considering going, I would strongly advise against it. For the entire week, I felt incredibly out of place along with the few friends that I made there. All of the campers are already really good friends with the counselors as well as each other, and it is clear that they aren't looking to welcome anybody else into their clique. This was proven to me by the way I was treated, and the way my friends were treated. If you are not already a part of their group, then this is definitely not the camp for you. read more

Camp Jam Fullerton was not what they said it would be. My son attended the first day and hated it. They divided kids into bands and sent them to separate locked rooms to play a song for 4+ hours at a time with an occasional teacher checking on them and telling a few of the kids that they needed to pay extra for private lessons. The schedule said that the camp would rotate into different subjects of music every 45 to 60 minutes and that never happened. After the first 4 hours they were lead down to eat lunch and then back in a locked room for several more hours. My son texted me continually wanting to be picked-up. This, coming from a kid who loves music. We drove to the campus and took a while to find our son but couldn't find the director to discuss. I called the director to discuss the disappointment and he didn't have any explanation at all except for that it was very unorganized. I told him our son was no longer interested in the camp and the director said he would request a refund. The director then wrote back several weeks later saying that the refund request was denied. I could never get another single person to ever return a phone call or email so we are out the full price of camp with no explanation as to why the kids weren't on the camp schedule as planned. We would have accepted a percentage of a refund but again, we got nothing, no camp, no refund, no returned calls or emails passed the one email sent from director of Fullerton camp. The director, quite honestly was a hard core sales person that made this camp sound like it was the best camp ever, it was not anywhere close to being that. read more

Do not trust your children to Camp Jam's overnight program. We really wanted to like Camp Jam and even know some of the founders. Unfortunately, we had a horrible experience. We tried to get a refund and all they were willing to do is give us credit towards next year--like we would let them trust them again. The supervision for the overnight program is lax, especially considering the young age of the campers. The sleeping accommodations are setup like a college dorm, which is not appropriate for campers under 14. The one counselor sleeps at the end of a long hall in his own room. The campers are in groups of four sleeping in their own rooms. Our experience with other camps is that they ALWAYS have at least two counselors so there is never any one-on-one adult contact with children. Management is obviously cutting costs wherever they can putting kids at risk for abuse. Considering the high rates they charge it makes no sense. read more
