It's been a rough few years, so when my mom suggested going on a mini vacation to cajun country, I…read morewas all for it. I let her plan it and I'm so glad I did because the moment I got out of the car at Bonne Terre, I knew it was exactly what I needed. We rented the studio, originally for four nights, but we were so cozy and comfy there that we ended up staying an extra day. The host, Jen, is so kind and welcoming and has thought of *everything* one might need: extra bedding, plenty of fluffy towels, an iron and a hair dryer, locally made soap, a bath robe, a washer/dryer, dishwasher along with plenty of dishes for cooking, spices (cleverly stored in the freezer), coffee and tea along with an assortment of sugars, records and their player, a beautiful antique piano, books, DVDs, and games that were all appropriate to the location... even a carton of fresh eggs from the hens and a bowl of ripe cherry tomatoes. The furnishings are charming, eclectic, and artistic, with many pieces collected from local artists--modern yet somehow timeless, and very homey. Everything was sparkling clean and so thoughtfully arranged that it made us want to leave it just as nice as we'd found it. We ate dinner on the porch that night and listened to the symphony of insects and frogs somewhere out in the trees. Some of them even hopped past us and took up residence on the screen door and windows. My favorite part were the lovely animals. We were taken on a farm tour, given more vegetables for our salad, and introduced to the many different breeds of chickens, a turkey, Sebastopol geese, a family of goats, a horse, a cow, and the adorable pair of ducks who'd hatched a duckling named Daffodil. This tiny duck and I became great friends as I was honored with the chance to hold her and visit with her each evening--which was probably the high point of this whole year! The farm is also situated in a pleasant area for an evening walk, down a charming country lane. Before we left, we were shown the other rental--a cottage at the front of the property, with an outdoor shower, a loft bed, a gorgeous porch, and all the same wonderful amenities as the studio. We are planning to return in September and if we do, I'd be more than happy with either accommodation. If you're looking for some peace and quiet or want to hit the pause button on the stressors of city life, don't hesitate to check out Bonne Terre. I'm sure you'll be just as enchanted as we were!

You can read Bonne Terre's many five star reviews on Airbnb to know it's a super special place. If you're a nature lover, an artist, an appreciator of Louisiana culture, or just someone looking to get away from the rat race for a few days, a week, or longer, you won't find a better place than Bonne Terre. It's amazing. Both the Main House and the Studio are full of everything you could want or need for your stay - cozy beds and much better equipped kitchens than I've ever seen in a rental, plus cool art, books and music. Jen is a wonderful hostess. You can check out the organic garden and meet the many animals on the farm, including horses, Matilda the cow, goats, rock star-looking Polish chickens, and more. Or you can just kick back and drink coffee on the porch as you take a pause and enjoy the beauty of the farm. I'm so looking forward to my next visit. Check out Bonne Terre - I guarantee you'll want to go back too!

I 100% wish we had stayed at the St Philip the entire trip. It's quiet and very accessible by foot to every corner of the French Quarter. Our room was 3x the size of our Frenchmen room for the same price, and I was surprised that we actually utilized the kitchenette (which is well stocked with utensils and dishware etc, plus the coffee maker in the room is a plus). The hotel itself is silent which can be hard to find, and I was surprised how much I valued the quiet after 2 nights of Frenchmen street. The only drawback is a lack of parking. There is a lot on Elysian Field (6/7 blocks away) that the desk clerk recommended that's only $20/24 hours but you do need to walk back and put more money in the meter daily, which in the middle of summer in the middle of the day can be an arduous task - to maximize your $20, stay as close to the same time as when you first check the car in (first payment at 3pm, the 24 hrs expires at 3pm the next day). I did see plenty of parking tickets on windshields and a car with a boot all over so, parking laws are definitely enforced. Just as an aside, most hotels with parking or a valet service run $30+/nightly plus you have to tip the driver so $20 is a steal. All in all, the St Philip is a unique, affordable, very comfortable hotel in the heart of the action.

Our room was so cute and well decorated. The entrance and courtyard, along with the rooms were well kept and clean! Everything was in walking distance! I couldn't give this property enough stars and would pick to stay here again for another trip to Nola! Thanks y'all!
