There is a nice little creek running next to some of the sites. It is a short walk to the New River. We saw several people enjoying the river just wading in and some fishing. If I had to pick a negative- no camp fires - but it was worth not having one to stay in this beautiful place with great scenery. We didn't do it but they have river rafting and kayak rentals down the road. Saw lots of people enjoy that.

We camped at Pioneer Village Campground in a Fifth Wheel. There is nothing to do in Max Meadows but we weren't looking for that. Wytheville is a short drive and has everything you could need. The Log Cabin 1776 restaurant is a must as well as Skeeters if you like hot dogs. We made a trip to Bristol and really enjoyed hanging out for the day.

We prefer the river sites personally for the views & fishing. The campground owners are fantastic people who've become friends. They live on site and take great pride in the property. The property is always impeccable. They are always working. Such a gorgeous place!! The pond is in the center of the property - yes you can fish (catch & release). Areas setup with hammocks, corn hole, seating, etc. The new playground has been a big hit! Oh, and there's also a dog park area. The bathhouses are super clean and have air conditioning. The laundry room is brand new with great units and also A/C. They incorporated additional activities this year over at the pavilion which our family has loved! Bingo, tie-dye t-shirts, food trucks, live music, and more! Our grandson loves to join us. Lots of kids and a great area for them to all play. Tubing the river is always a fun treat! You can bring your own tubes or rent from the campground. The camp store has expanded and features a great mix of items - t-shirts, hats, hoodies, koozies, and more. As well as local jams, rubs, and other treats. They're in the process of building a new office/camp store so we're excited to see this complete. We have a 40' fifth wheel. No problems every getting in. They accommodate all size rigs. All sites have a concrete pad, fire pit and very nice large picnic table. Sites are spacious and do not feel cramped like we've experienced at other campgrounds. Wi-Fi is generally pretty good. We've been able to work remote on some of our trips. We even had phone service our last trip (AT&T)! Lots to do in the area! Hiking, Linville Winery (yum!), Linville Caverns, Grandfather Mtn and so many other great places. The office staff can certainly provide plenty of recommendations, too. There are 2 grocery stores in town about 15min away. There's also a local dollar store about 5min away. We cannot say enough good things about MRFC. We've met some great campers there who we now call friends. We truly love this place and already have bookings for next year!

WiFi was available and most sites are open to the sky for on air channels. There's no off leash dog park, cable, pool or playground but there's plenty of space to walk the dogs and plenty to see around the area. Water pressure seemed a little low so we didn't use a pressure regulator. Laundry room was super clean. It's $1 each to wash and dry and it's on the honor system so you deposit money into a box on the wall. Bathrooms and showers were also super clean. As full-timers, we were quite impressed with this lovely park. It's apparent that the owner takes a lot of pride in this park and manages it well. It's a nice quiet campground perfect for decompressing and getting away for awhile. Owner is on the premises, available and has plans for future improvements. This is truly a gem that we plan to return to in the future.

Now we come here as often as we can and every time we come here we don't want to leave so we stay and stay. We got here July 9th this time to be near our new baby grand daughter in Bluefield and we'll stay this time until August 26th when we just have to leave! This campground is extremely well designed and the flat sites have hard packed gravel and are well groomed. The bath house is extremely clean. I decided on the motel based on Yelp reviews and because we were not camping but on our way to Washington DC, and Fancy Gap was the perfect place to stop on the way. I also wanted a private bathroom, so I did not choose a cabin. This campground/cabins/motel is located about 6 miles off of Interstate 77, with the Blue Ridge Parkway within view and the Blue Ridge Mountains in the background. The motel is located up a quite steep gravel hill maybe about 1/4 mile from the campground and cabins, so it was much quieter than the campground area, which had quite a few noisy kids. The motel room was tiny (basically like a cabin but with a shower just large enough to stand in, toilet and sink) and very clean. We did see 2 spiders, but that is to be expected in the woody, outdoor setting. I appreciated the ample-sized refrigerator with a little freezer and microwave, but there was no table, chair, or even beside table in the room, so we had to eat at the picnic table (with a fire pit next to it), situated on the steep hill. It is a beautiful woods-surrounded setting, but hard to balance perched on the hill, pretty buggy, and would have not worked well if it had been raining. We enjoyed viewing the sunset and mountains in the distance while sitting in the rocking chairs on the front porch, sipping green tea and hot chocolate provided by the motel. It was quite warm during the June day, but in the evening, it got quite chilly. The A/C worked well as did the heater at night, so we were comfortable. The queen bed was neither comfortable nor uncomfortable. My son said the futon was pretty comfy, but we had to bring our own bedding for it, or we would have had to pay extra. The biggest negative about this motel are the extremely thin walls--thankfully the people next door settled down about the same time we did because it sounded like we had roommates with only thin walls and locked connecting door separating us, and i felt bad every time the floor loudly creaked when I got up in the night and early morning. Also, we were looking forward to walking the wooded trails around the campground, but they were not well-maintained and overgrown, so our walk was pretty short. We did enjoy a short walk through their apple orchard.

RV travelers will enjoy level, gravel parking spots with full hookups. You'll also find a pavilion with a large gaming area and indoor court. There's much more to say about this place.
