As someone who has volunteered at the California Raptor Center in Davis, CA for 3 years (and counting) and is also a primary handler/trainer of two education ambassadors (a Swainson's Hawk and a Peregrine Falcon), as well as an aspiring falconer, I am pretty well-versed in raptors. Therefore, Cascades Raptor Center was a no-brainer stop on our trip. It was a pretty warm day, as OR had just experienced a heat wave. The raptor center overall was very well-kept, with over 30 education ambassadors on display. All the enclosures were very clean and organized. There were various trainers in several enclosures working with their respective birds when we went, and one volunteer even had a peregrine falcon out on glove for the public to enjoy up close and to ask questions about. We actually made it just in time for the last flight show of the season, and boy was it a blast!! Hans the Eurasian-Eagle-Owl was the star of the show, but I thoroughly enjoyed the entire program. As you can see in the photos below, I snapped some lovely shots of the birds with my DSLR. Here I am sharing some of my favorites. The admission fee was worth it, especially as the raptor center mainly functions from donations. We also shopped at the little gift shop after for some mementos to take home. I would love to revisit on our next trip to OR!

We saw rangers or volunteers drive by often, and we really liked that. The restrooms were maintained well, except one of the men's shower stalls had a drain that wasn't working. The park had some nice trails and was close to the dunes and the lakes. The only problem with being close to the dunes was the noise early in the morning. But everyone likes to have fun a different way. The boat rentals at the lake were fairly reasonable, I did get a bag of ice, and that was way over priced. I didn't look to see how much wood was though. Overall, I'm definitely coming back and camping here! All of the attendants and rangers were friendly and helpful.

We stayed at this campground a couple weeks ago for the first time and had an excellent experience!…read moreI wasn't sure what to expect with this being the second largest campground in Oregon- would it be overwhelming with so many people, too much noise, etc? I was actually surprised how quiet it was (okay camping in a public campground is never silent but it was pretty moderate noise). The advantage of it being such a large campground too is that they had nice, well-equipped, clean facilities equally spaced out. Showers are free to use, though I didn't while we were there. A cute welcome center in the middle has info, games/books, and ice and firewood to buy and is located right next to a pretty good sized playground for kids. It's also a super dog-friendly place (we brought our 75# boy with us) and everyone there seemed to be mindful of their own dogs with leashes/cleaning up. Honeyman is located close to the heart of Florence and close to lots of recreation activities - dunes, beach, two lakes, etc. We enjoyed a quick walk over to Cleawox Lake each day to play, and rented a paddle boat too! The only downside is that like most Oregon State Park campgrounds you do need to plan quite a bit ahead to reserve your spot online. It's very difficult to get a spot last minute or day of in the busy times (late spring - summer - fall).

I am on a 5 week road trip/camping trip with my kids and we have been camping all over the PNW and CA. This has been my favorite stop of the trip and had I known it was going to be this magical, I would've booked a week instead of 3 days. The check in process was amazing. They give you the code and you go to your Yurt which is away from everyone else at the campground. You have your own little dock, backyard, outdoor cooking area, sunroom with a shower, and the Yurt itself is like a home/suite-like hotel room but in a Yurt. After a long day of driving, being able to just go to your room and walk right in, especially with young kids in the car, is such an added bonus. I've literally felt like I've had the place to myself these last few days and it's heavenly. Being away from it all means my kids aren't bothering anyone when they're out playing at 6:00 in the morning, and we've been sleeping like logs by 9:00 because it's so quiet --aside from the relaxing sound of water and birds. I'm pretty sure this is my new favorite place. It's so much better than the website depicts and I am absolutely staying here again. I imagine this place books up rather quickly. I got lucky and booked it 7 months ago with no problems. You can kayak (included) to Siltcoos lake OR the ocean. The added gate to keep kids in and away from the dock is such a thoughtful touch and kept my anxiety at bay knowing my twins wouldn't wander off.

We were parked in the Fred Meyer parking lot when an employee came out and told us that the police would come tell us to move soon. The Camp Host Gavin met its outside around midnight and was not only very helpful but also extremely kind. He got us set up in a spot and we quickly went to sleep. The next morning, we met some of the staff and fellow campers who were equally as friendly. We even had a few people offer to help us dump our RV for the first time. It was generally a great environment and I wish we had spent more time there. There are a few RV spots right on the water that are probably the most sought after but this place is located right in town on the river. I highly recommend staying her

DO NOT SEND YOUR KIDS HERE…read more I will not be returning back! prices are absolutely outrageous, water quality is disgusting, poor management, not to mention my kid was sent home with lice! All the kids suffered from very poor hygiene, due to the horrendous condition of the showers and bathrooms. The staff has no idea what it's doing, merit badges are hardly accessible. Everything including the cabins , waterfront, mess hall and showers are in horrific condition. And don't even get me started on the clearly not edible food! Yes the taste was disgusting, but on multiple accounts there was reports of hair in the food, no wonder everyone was getting sick!
