Jessie M Honeyman Memorial State Park - Down by the lake

Jessie M Honeyman Memorial State Park

We stayed at this campground a couple weeks ago for the first time and had an excellent experience!…read moreI wasn't sure what to expect with this being the second largest campground in Oregon- would it be overwhelming with so many people, too much noise, etc? I was actually surprised how quiet it was (okay camping in a public campground is never silent but it was pretty moderate noise). The advantage of it being such a large campground too is that they had nice, well-equipped, clean facilities equally spaced out. Showers are free to use, though I didn't while we were there. A cute welcome center in the middle has info, games/books, and ice and firewood to buy and is located right next to a pretty good sized playground for kids. It's also a super dog-friendly place (we brought our 75# boy with us) and everyone there seemed to be mindful of their own dogs with leashes/cleaning up. Honeyman is located close to the heart of Florence and close to lots of recreation activities - dunes, beach, two lakes, etc. We enjoyed a quick walk over to Cleawox Lake each day to play, and rented a paddle boat too! The only downside is that like most Oregon State Park campgrounds you do need to plan quite a bit ahead to reserve your spot online. It's very difficult to get a spot last minute or day of in the busy times (late spring - summer - fall).

Overall it's fine. It's a bit overpriced for what you get. Weekends are loud and there didn't seem…read moreto be anything being done about it. There are bright lights randomly throughout the campground which make for an interesting "camping" vibe. There's probably better, quieter and more secluded places nearby.

Water and electricity at each site is functional. However the sites are close together and those along the river are all in parking lot style except for view of river. Bonus? Campground sits next to old town so walking around for shopping or meals is flat and easy access. Heceta lighthouse and beach and Seal cove are all nearby and worth a visit.

We were parked in the Fred Meyer parking lot when an employee came out and told us that the police would come tell us to move soon. After calling various inns and RV parks around town, we eventually just decided to try this place since we felt like we were out of options. The Camp Host Gavin met its outside around midnight and was not only very helpful but also extremely kind. He got us set up in a spot and we quickly went to sleep. The next morning, we met some of the staff and fellow campers who were equally as friendly. We even had a few people offer to help us dump our RV for the first time. It was generally a great environment and I wish we had spent more time there. There are a few RV spots right on the water that are probably the most sought after but this place is located right in town on the river. I highly recommend staying her

It is way off of 101, so no highway noise. It is close enough to Haceta Beach you can hear the ocean at night. And, it is not too far to walk to beach access. The bathrooms are always clean and I have never had hot water problems when showering. Unfortunately, this stay the digital TV channels were not available (i.e. all network/ local channels). I thought it was my TV and spent quite some time troubleshooting. Those in the office had a sheet to hand out to people with "cable problems." Finally, I asked them to pull up the TV in the office. They had the same problem but could only tell me they would report it to the owners. For all I know, they canceled their digital service. As for WiFi, like at many parks, it is hot and miss. It dropped twice while typing this review. Cell coverage is terrible here, so WiFi is important to me. If cable and WiFi are no big deal to you, then this could be 5 stars. I like having them so I give 4.

It may be great for those who want to get away from the busy life but we wanted to be closer to town. I think the bumpy road would be too difficult with an RV! Looks like they are doing road construction so it may get better. 3 stars because it is off the road to Haceta Beach. I had no internet at the park so I checked in on the road to it.

They have a few row of permanents but also spaces for people with reservations and possibly a few reserved for those without. You could not ask for a better staff of Amy and her daughter Sandy! They do an excellent job! They are very kind, sincere, accommodating, helpful and really go the extra mile to help you. The maintenance crew does a wonderful job keeping everything cleaned, tidied and trimmed. They have a sign up sheet for laundry so you have 3 washers & dryers at your disposal. There is a 2 hour time slot for yourself to get clothes done. I would highly recommend this wonderful RV Park. We stored our RV in front of the RV park for many years so it was wonderful to hook up and drive around the corner into the park. We have stayed there many years until we sold our RV last year.

We moved to Pacific Pines RV Park to continue camping until our house is finished being built. Immediately the ladies in management began to nitpick and gripe at us for things we had not done. In the first few days my wife was doing laundry and was aggressively approached by the manager stating that she had to be a camper there to use the machines. My wife told her that we had just moved in. She then began to tell her that she had to sign the sign up sheet. Again, my wife informed her that we did. These type of little nitpicky things continue to happen. We in our six weeks there received multiple two page, poorly written, letters to all the residence stating all the infractions everyone in the park was doing. Like walking their dogs in the wrong place, allowing their children to ride bikes and scooters incorrectly, improperly using the washers and dryers in the laundry room, putting trash in the wrong dumpster when both dumpster are for trash, or speeding too fast in the park. With each letter threats were made to kick people out of the park or to shut down facilities like bathrooms and showers or laundry room or all together the rec room. Management would follow you around as you drove through or walk through the park and would look for ways to correct or reprimand you. The final straw was being accused of speeding when I was looking at my speedometer and was below the stated speed. Which is 5 mph. When I informed them I wasn't, she began yelling and holding out all five fingers. These women in management there are narcissistic authoritarians. You cannot argue with them, because if they say it - it must be true. Otherwise they place you on probation and threaten to kick you out. You cannot argue with someone like that all you can do is report them to the owner or leave. We paid for our second month but we left 10 days early. We let go of our money and moved out for peace of mind. Management there will not allow you to relax or enjoy your stay because it's more about the rules. Finally, as we were leaving they were griping at the men in the park for using too much toilet paper in the bathroom, so their solution was to be passively aggressive and put an out of order sign on the men's restroom door. They have also removed all the picnic tables from each campsite due to people not using them the way they think they should. DO NOT STAY HERE, other campgrounds in town are much better.
