We have really mixed feelings about our training experience with Camp Bow Wow. I called to make our appt to start level 1 puppy training and got all the info. We showed up on Day 1 totally unprepared. The trainer said we were in the wrong class and asked us to come back and switch to the different time. I was not happy about that- we had already made arrangements for the 11:00 time slot. There were also several Sundays that we had to skip due to holidays and the trainers personal schedule. I wish we had known this ahead of time, because it extended the class out 4 weeks. We also were never told that only one person could come to training, which was a disappointment to us because we BOTH needed to learn how to train our pup. There was a lot of confusion and miscommunication and I was feeling very frustrated. The training went well and Winnie enjoyed going. It was easy to understand the class and commands so we can use them at home. I expected a larger training area- we were with 4 (maybe 5) other dogs in the lobby area of the camp. The trainer was excellent with dogs and they all listened to her well. She used positive reinforcement which we believe is very effective. I felt like we got our moneys worth. It would have been nice to have a syllabus so we could review what we learned. It was sometimes hard to remember, especially when you had to share with your partner what you had learned. If I knew how I'd have felt about Camp Bow Wow experience, I would have gone elsewhere. read more

The FIRST time I took my dogs here they both got kennel cough and my pitty was returned home to me with a ripped dewclaw down to the quick, which was weird because they got bathed before going home so it's not something that could have gotten missed easily. There was a sign posted at the front desk that kennel cough had been reported, but since our dogs were vaccinated and the kennel cough vaccine is required for entry, I didn't think much of it (the bordetella vaccine does not prevent kennel cough BTW, which I didn't know at the time). When I checked the cameras during their stay, every room was EXTREMELY over-crowded and dogs were ALL over each other. They even pulled out a "max capacity" sign out after we dropped off. You would think with a known outbreak of kennel cough, the owners would be more cautious and limit the number of occupants allowed in at one time. My dogs have been going to other day cares for years and I've never had a problem with kennel cough. But after a visit to this place, I was up all night with my pug while he coughed and vomited everywhere. HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE. read more

I've been taking my dog to Camp Bow Wow for 3 years since I've adopted her. We started at the Bedford location, but switched to Westlake when I moved. I have had nothing but positive experiences at both locations. My pup Lola is so excited when we walk in and often rolls over for the staff. She is a high-energy dog that sometimes just needs an outlet to run around. The staff is always very friendly and always makes us feel like they know her name and remember her (even though we go pretty sporadically and I know they have her file pulled up behind the desk :)) I always feel like I'm leaving my dog in trusted hands (and believe me-- I'm a psycho dog mom who loves my dog more than life!) I watch the webcams throughout the day and am thrilled to see my pup running around and burning energy. I also love the fun touches that they offer around holidays and events. During Christmas, they did a photo shoot for an extra fee that was absolutely the cutest thing. They somehow got my crazy energetic pup to sit in a box and take the cutest picture ever. She always comes exhausted and healthy at the end of her stay. If owners watch for signs of illness prior to taking their dog to camp and keep them properly vaccinated, illness isn't a major concern that I worry about at Camp Bow Wow. In a dog eat dog world, it's nice to find a place that cares. The staff includes some long time employees, and that says A LOT! They also care by remembering your pet, saying condolences when one passes, and making comments that lets you know they know your dog from the next. This is an update from a prior review -- I STILL think this place is wonderful. The comments regarding a 'bull pen' and 'sickness' just pains me. This is a day care & kennel. Dogs do come and go. If you think your dog should have a candle light dinner while eating dinner then no place will ever be as good. Our dog goes here often & regularly. The folks are absolutely wonderful to our (& all) dogs. We watch on the video camera and enjoy the option and see our dog playing, chasing and having a good time. Any toys in the 'bull pen' would be fought over (dangerous). Please -- this is a good place and my wife and I have no qualms with leaving 'her highness' there. We also use the "Camp Buddies" where CBW comes to our house and helps with our cats. They are trustworthy and a wonderful organization. Many of our friends (now) use them. From what I could tell, Camp Bow Wow took good care of my little cherub. The staff was pleasant, honored my coupon, was sweet to my Winston, and the place was tidy, attractive, and reasonably priced. I LOVED checking on him via webcam while vacationing in Puerto Rico; it was actually fun and relieving to see him scurrying around with his new friends, although the video didn't always stream all that well. My only concern was that I didn't get a tour of the facility until I picked him up, and even then I had to ask for it. It kind of made me sad when I saw the playpen in person....it seemed waaay too small for all the dogs in there. I'm comfortable with Win's stay there, and comfortable with the staff, but I'd so rather take Win to a facility where he can run, and romp, and stretch his little legs. read more

If you care about the health and well being of your dog, avoid this place AT ALL COSTS. At first, this place seems like a god send. Someone to keep an eye on your baby all day while you work... They separate the dogs by size into 4 separate play areas... They feed your dog and tire them out. Sounds great, right? You trust them to keep your puppy safe and healthy, right? What they don't tell you is that your pup will be one of many coming and going from their facility all day, and will be left to sit in bacteria and viruses and dirt and nastiness. When my Kirby pup doesn't go to camp bow wow, she's healthy as can be. Since going to camp bow wow she has had giardia 4x, kennel cough that almost progressed to pneumonia, and countless episodes of vomiting. I am NOT the only dog owner who has complained of this. It's common at camp bow wow. PLEASE, seriously please, avoid this overly crowded, dirty, infested facility. I am so sad that my sweet girl has suffered time after time at the hands of camp bow wow. Shouldn't their clients safety and health come before anything else? Apparent not. This place should not be in business. End of story. read more

We recently had a negative experience with this location, so please consider that with the 2-star rating. I also believe there are positives here, but due to our recent (and in our opinion rather severe) issues we will not be returning. First, what I see as positives: When things are going well, meaning you are a consistent paying customer, the staff is great in providing quick in-and-out service and know your pets well. The usual staff we have had experience with were always great to work with and would provide a general overview of how are dog did during his stay. Generally dropping off or picking up my dog only took a minute or two. The other positive (which is a good transition into the negative) is that if an incident occurs (e.g. your dog is sick, injured, etc) the 'usual' staff will contact you to inform you of the issue. The one time this happened for us, the staff notified us that our dog had been isolated and left us the option to pick him up early or wait until the end of the day. Now for the negatives: We understand that in a facility with many dogs intermingled there are bound to be incidents. These can be anything from a sick dog to a scared dog to an injury from rough play. In our one phonecall, our dog yipped during play and subsequently was attacked by a couple other dogs. Due to being scared, he was segregated so he could calm down. There isn't much any doggy daycare organization can do to minimize this when playtime is involved. Something organizations can affect however is to ensure that when it is presented that dogs will be supervised at all times, that they are in fact supervised. Throughout the day, when I check the camera, there will be no staff members with the dogs. I believe this leads to some incidents being more severe because staff cannot respond quickly. The last negative I see lies in the transition of staff within the facility. Earlier I referenced the usual staff. These are the individuals who were at the facility during our first use of this organization. They very quickly recognize and know the behaviors of each dog. Most recently, we have encountered a new set of staff who do not necessarily know the dogs or the owners. Combined with the previous negatives, I think this has contributed to our decision to not return to the facility. FInally, the rest of this is a description of why we will not return. This past week I did not see my dog on camera for most of the afternoon. When I arrived to pick him up I was informed he had a scratch on his face. When he came to the front with staff, his right leg was covered in blood. The staff cleaned him up with wet wipes and said it must have been a growth that ruptured. When we got home, my wife and I cleaned his leg and found puncture wounds. Within a few hours, those wounds were filling with fluid, continued to bleed due to the depth of the wounds, and it came to a point where our dog couldn't walk on his right front leg. We decided this was too much damage to consider the facility safe for our pet and my wife called to request a refund of the un-used portion of our visit package. We were told we must come in with the debit card used to purchase those visits. The next day my wife went in and rather than refund the money, the staff at the desk charged us the amount to be refunded. Due to the way refunds work, we are now waiting on about $260 ($130 X 2) to be refunded because debit card refunds allow Banks up to 10 days to process the refund. While onsite, my wife was told that our dog was one of the aggressors in an incident that caused his bites. My wife asked to see the video because we were concerned about any aggression he might show. At that request, we were informed that they cannot share the video of the incident with us. My wife requested to speak to the owner who we were told is out of town. As an add-on, this incident and all conversations have happened with the newer staff. As a final activity, we took our dog to the vet because of the swelling in his leg. The vet had to lance and drain the wound and he is now on medication for both the pain and infection. The vet also stated that the bite marks are indicative of a dog in a submissive position on their back. Thankfully our vet took photos for documentation. However in addition to the refund funds pending, we also are down an additional $300 for the vet visit because of the incident. It is my opinion that this could have been prevented with better training of staff and appropriate oversight of the dogs within the facility. read more

We live in Westlake and took our 7 month old medium sized dog. He is tall but still a puppy and they put him with dogs who were much older and heavier than him. On our second day we got him home and felt bite marks all over his body. We called camp bow wow about our concern that other dogs had been too rough with him. They told us that in fact he was the one to blame because he had been playing to rough. Not to be that person who thinks their dog is a perfect angel but every other doggy daycare we have put him in had previously raved at how gentle he was with other dogs and we had never seen any rough behavior at home. We also kept tabs on him with the live stream throughout the day and it seemed like he mostly kept to himself. The other thing we noticed is that there seemed to be alot of dogs in the room but no activities or toys or anything for the dogs to do except interact with eachother. I would never recommend this place to anyone due to the lack of care, the injuries my dog received and the lack of support and blaming our dog we received when we brought up his injuries. read more

I was not called and informed that my dog was injured and when he was picked up he was actively bleeding. They did not clean him and he was covered in blood. They gave one story at the time of pick up. And another when I asked for what happened. I asked for the video footage to see what happened and they refused to show me. Do I think Camp Bow Wow "abuses" dogs? Well, "No". Inadvertently, perhaps. Certinally the staff feel confident their handling of the dogs which they attend to are in excellent care. Again, perhaps. However, please see for yourself before dropping your loved ones off for a week or even a day. I encourage you to download Camp Bow Wows app before you decide. My wife was going on vacation. Trying to consider my long hours at work she took it upon herself to book our two dogs at the Westlake Ohio location. Unfortunately , she failed to do her homework. So, I decided to watch the live feed to see if my dogs were okay. After two days of watching twenty plus dogs in a "bull-pin" type in closed area with a small outside area which didn't offer any real grass or enough room to run, excersise , or simply play. I also noticed there were no toys. As I continued to watch, there was no human interaction. Family pets obviously need human interaction. The dogs were not being walked nor were they being taken outside for bathroom breaks and probably because it is easier to mop a tiled floor opposed to cleaning artificial grass carpet. Also, I noticed one of the male staff members was sitting on this small landing of sorts in the center of the room. As the dogs were coming over to him for attention he would bat them away. This recording was on 7 /24/17 in the small pet area. These dogs sit in this room within an open warehouse. The "bull-pins" are sectioned off into groups of size and or tempermant as far as I understood. These dogs sit in this room by the door waiting within an atmosphere of very loud constant barking. In my opinion, this place isn't good. I felt sorry for the dogs there when I nearly sped as fast as I could to rescue my two boys. After two days of watching the live feed, it was all I could take. Ask yourself. " How can you expect your bet to rest without nervousness amongst constant loud barking. Camp Bow Wow distracts the reality as they use "Camp" as well as their "cute" play on words relating to "k9', pet, dog and puppy. Notice when the dogs are out of the "bull-pins". There will be a memo stating the dogs are asleep from a busy day. Really? Your dog doesn't need a "Camp". They need attention, human interaction, behavioral enforcement, bathroom breaks, walks. Most of all, "A family setting". Watch for yourself on Camp Bow Wows live feed. In my opinion. It is sad. read more

I've been taking my dog to Camp Bow Wow for grooming since we adopted her nearly 3 years ago. She's a little shy about baths but still does well she just needs a little extra love when you do it. She's also very fluffy and double coated and has some extra grooming needs. They always do a beautiful job and with their help she has gotten less stressed about getting a bath, which tells me they are really doing whatever they can to make sure she's comfortable and well taken care of. I would be very careful boarding your dog there. I picked up my Boxer after 7 days of boarding. He had a big "chunk' of fur missing on his thigh. He had deep scratches on his head and back where I don't believe the fur will ever grow back. He had many many teeth marks on his neck, back, chest and face. I should have known something was amiss when I kept checking the video on their web site and only saw my dog once. He also lost abut 8 pounds. He is also not the same dog that I dropped off there. He used to be very energetic and playful but has now laid around for about a week now. When I spoke to the owner and staff there they said "all of this is normal". "Dogs play like this all the time and this should be expected". This is total BS. The owner said that if my dog is lethargic for more than 2 days that I should take him to the vet. I said that I agreed, but she should pick up the bill for the vet visit in light of all the bites and scratches all over his body. She replied "we don't pay for vet bills" They had more excuses than anyone I have ever interacted with. They are very very unprofessional. I firmly believe that they board way to many dogs there and don't adequately supervise them . The last time I went on their video to check on my dog (which of course was no where to be found) I saw one dog humping the heck out of another dog and no one was around. So, I have never in my life taken anything for granted like CBW. We recently moved to Florida, and there are no CBWs around us. I should have rated this place years ago. Our dogs would pull me like a human kite from the car to the entry gate EVERYTIME we pulled in there. Case in point, this place is gold. FYI we have seen a small scab here or there from other dogs (or maybe even the sibling LOL) when we got home, however that is what dogs do. I love this place. The staff is very friendly, courteous, and attentive. My puppy, Dresden is a little roughhouser and has the best time ever here. He cannot WAIT to go inside and play with his friends. I watch him on the cameras and laugh constantly. As I mentioned, the staff here are very attentive, when play gets a bit too hard they are right there to break up the antics. When pick-up time comes around they always point out scratches Dresden may have gotten. Dogs like to play! I've never seen anything that wasn't utterly superficial. Our puppy, Athena, LOVES going to camp. She goes two days a week so that we can get her energy out instead of keeping her at home while my finace and I are at work all day. She pulls us into the office when we get out of the car and cannot wait to get to play in the play areas. When I watch her on the cameras she is almost always on the ground wrestling with the other pups. I love that this facility exists! The staff is great and the results I get when my dog comes home are amazing and so worth the cost. We do the 20 day package which makes the cost per day very reasonable. As far as the reviews regarding the dogs getting sick from day care, when a dog is around that many other dogs you are going to increase their risk of getting sick. CBW made sure we provided them with our dog's up to date records and vaccines. Also, they clean the facility all the time, watching the cameras you can see they do it fairly often. It seems like they take all the necessary precautions to keep the dogs safe. To us, it is the same thing as taking your child to day care or school, they are more prone to get sick but that doesn't mean it is not a good thing for them to go. read more

I was really disappointed with Camp Bow Wow Westlake. I boarded my dog and my sisters dog for 3 days and 2 nights. This was my very first experience with boarding. When I picked up the dogs I was shocked to see how dirty and smelly they were. Clancy's paws and face were yellow and he smelled like urine. Sophie wasn't as bad but that's probably because she's black so I couldn't see any discoloration. To be honest, I expected the dogs to be a little dirty and smelly but not like that. When I spoke to the owner the following day she didn't seem to care at all. She was very laxidasical and said "sorry we must have overlooked." What? How can you not notice a white dog with yellow paws?? I explained that this was my first experience with them and how disappointed I was. The owner didn't seem to care at all. For dog owners, your dog is your family and you entrust boarders to properly take care of your loved ones. It's extremely disheartening when there is a blatant disregard for that. I WOULD NOT recommend taking your dog to this location even for day care. read more

The past 4/5 weeks my dog has come home with more than one puncture wound/scratch on him. When I went in to Camp Bow Wow to ask what was up, they told me "maybe I should hire a trainer" for my dog. My dog (under a year old) goes in his cage when I put my shoes on... never goes to the bathroom in the house...knows all commands... plays EXTREMELY well with the dogs at the dog park; yet he cannot be at camp for one day without getting mauled?! I take my dog here whenever my mom can't watch her, they do a lovely job. I know she's well taken care of by a friendly staff who always remembers her when she comes in, and that she won't be kept cooped up in a kennel the entire time I'm gone. They screen all dogs they take in with a trial day to ensure they have safe temperaments, and then separate approved dogs who utilize their daycare and boarding services by size into play rooms. These playrooms have an indoor space and an outdoor space, when whether permits, complete with playgrounds and sometimes doggy pools. In addition to great mental stimulation and physical exercise, these room setups are a great way to keep your dog well socialized with other pups! And while you're away, you can check on your dog in these rooms via a webcam app - great accountability, not to mention fun. I usually take my dog to the Strongsville location. He has been going there for maybe a year or so. They were booked when I needed him to be boarded and I didn't want to do in home care, so I opted to take him to this location. I AM EXTREMELY TICKED OFF. My dog is almost 4, has NEVER BEEN SICK AND NEVER HAD A PROBLEM WITH DAY CARE. He was there from around 6 on a Friday night until 6 or so on a SUNDAY! In that short time he comes home coughing. Throughout the week it got worse and so bad I had to take him to the EMERGENCY VET!! I call Camp Bow Wow, and she just tells me there has been a few calls coming in of kennel cough from the "little dog" area. WELL: ONE IF THERE IS A DOG COUGHING, WOULDN'T YOU TAKE AWAY FROM OTHER DOGS, OR IF THERE IS AN OUTBREAK AND YOU KNOW IT, CALL THE OWNERS OF DOGS THAT WERE THERE TO WARN? If a couple of owners have called to report, I'M PRETTY SURE A DOG THERE MUST HAVE BEEN COUGHING A LITTLE TO DETECT IT. She just tells me, "yea, we have had a few calls and its been kennel cough, so he probably has it." Her concern was barely there. IF YOU ARE WATCHING TAKING CARE OF DOGS...HAVE THE RESPECT TO LET OWNERS KNOW. He was NEVER SICK BEFORE. NEVER AGAIN AT THIS LOCATION! I have been going to Camp Bow Wow Westlake for about 3 years now, and I have to say that i have absolutely no complaints. The staff at Westlake has always been nice and accomidating and my dog comes home happy and tired. The lobby always smells great and my dog never comes home dirty. So its funny for me to read the complaints people have, yes we treat our dogs like our children and members of our family, so of course its concerning when they get sick. But just like I get sick or my children get sick I do not blame the school where my children picked it up or my workplace where i have gotten sick. Nor would I expect those places to call every person that has been there. Its selfish. Not not mention kennel cough takes 1-2 weeks to show symptoms so if your dog came home coughing it didn't pick it up at the place it had only been at for 1 day.
