We almost had to clean the bathroom but they forgot. Also the worst part. On the last day of camp, you have to go polar bearing (going to the lake early in the morning and bathing yourself in it, your whole body. It's mandatory.) Also they had a game where everybody picked up trash for a prize. Counselors are also aggressive and selfish in a game where you hit a ball and if it hits someone's knees, their out. Not worth it.

Wandering down the trails to find all the little vignettes was fun and then we enjoyed meeting all the animals and feeding them treats. Hard to pick any favorites amongst the animals but the little goats were a big hit since they were so easy to interact with. The staff were friendly, knowledgeable and helpful, and we appreciated the popcorn, cider and water snacks. I'm not sure if we actually found all the items on the "treasure hunt" but they kindly allowed my granddaughter to pick a "prize" anyway and she loved the purple magic wand she chose. One difficulty is that there is no restroom, not even a portapotty. Given the location that is not good as it is quite a distance to get to any place with a public restroom. Another is that there is no way to contact the venue by phone if you have questions. I almost didn't go because I was a bit late and the confirmation I received said that we had to be there at our specific time with no ability to change it. Fortunately my son was able to email them and ask if I could catch up to them on the trail if I arrived a bit late and they responded quickly enough that I didn't have to turn around and go back home (my drive there was two hours).

There are pool, archery, craft area baseball field, canoeing & hiking trail near the camp. Only 1/2 mile hike to the creek & it's shady so the walk was pretty easy. The lake is about a mile down where you can go fishing as well. Due to covid, the camp was closed & it needs all the volunteer help they can get. You don't even have to be a pro to fix things. You can help cleaning the cabins, painting, housekeeping, just anything. No pressure. It's a great experience for kids too. You can stay there overnight in the cabins & do some hiking too. I wish I can do more. Will be great if they receive some kind of generous donation to fix up the camp. I am counting on the mega lotto, lol. But if anyone like to do a lil getaway from home & don't mind helping out at the camp. Consider this camp. Btw, the scenic drive is lovely!

The camp provides a retreat for exclusively nonprofit organisations to serve their recreational and creative needs. The camp was founded in 1959 by the North Sacramento Optimist Club to establish a camp for underprivileged and handicapped children. The first functional summer camp was held in in 1973. My daughters have attended Camp Ross Relles for several years now as part of the Camp Quest West program. Camp Quest provides an educational adventure with an emphasis on humanist values, including empathy, creativity, critical thinking, and community. Regarding the facilities, I feel that they are well maintained and appropriate for the use by nonprofit child organisations. There is a complex of cabins with bunk beds to house guests. The site is handicap accessible and has a new swimming pool area. Additionally, the camp is right next to the Malakoff Diggins State Historical Park and the historical town of North Bloomfield. Before and after dropping the kids off, there is much to see in the area with the rangers offering tours and gold panning. While my two oldest daughters were at camp, a stayed with my youngest daughter at the Chute Hill Campground. All in all, I highly recommend Camp Ross Relles, Camp Quest West, and the Malakoff Diggins State Historic Park. They are an incredible trio.

All of the sites we had were nice a shady and easy to walk around it. The bear boxes were clean. The toilets were clean and FLUSHED! I had assumed we had vault toilets so it was a nice surprise. The people who run the campsites are very sweet and always checked in on us but gave us our privacy! We brought citronella candles because of the bees/bugs and it kept them at bay. None of us were stung, they are not aggressive at all. We cohabitated well for the weekend. The location is super close to the water and has the boat ramp if you like to do that. Overall, beautiful campsite. However - you do get cell service w/ AT&T or Verizon unfortunately lol. We are coming back again this year! Highly recommend.

We made…read morereservations online but it wasn't even necessary as the place was empty when we arrived at 2pm Thursday. Most of the good sites are first come, first serve and are not part of the online reservation system. We quickly discovered our reserved site did not offer much shade so we switched to one of the better first come, first serve sites. The host, JD, was very accommodating. The reservoir is beautiful and most of the sites are very well shaded. The campsites all have a nice picnic table, good size fire ring and charcoal grill. All were in good shape. IMO the campsites are spaced a little close together and there is not much cover in between. I normally prefer to stay at more remote non pay sites but since we now have two little girls, the running water and flush toilets were an absolute necessity. Bathrooms are kept clean and stocked. The area is beautiful and Bassi Falls is a short drive and an easy .5 mile hike each way. My little ones walked it no problem. Bassi Falls is very pretty with a fast running falls in Spring and several pools below to keep cool in. The kids will love it. I would rate this place five stars except for the fact that both nights, there were rude, inconsiderate and noisy campers. Quiet time here is 10pm-6am. First night (Thursday) another camper showed up and camped in the spot next to us. Now mind you, we're the only two campers in the campground with 40 sites and they camp right next to us. Unbelievable! Of course they were loud and up late (1-2am) talking and laughing. The next night, Friday, everyone starts coming in. There was an argument and swearing between 2 groups of campers over a parking space and then one of those groups who was 4 sites away from us down the road was up late partying and talking loud. Plus they had a barking dog. Nice! Finally at 11:30pm the camp host had to tell them to shut it down and they were quiet after that. I really like this campground, but I will only camp here Mon-Thurs nights. I guess I should add that to make this place a completely perfect campground, the camp host(s) should do a walk through of the campground every night around 10:15-10:30pm to make sure the campers are adhering to the 10pm-6am quiet time rules. To many yahoos come to campgrounds and think it's an open invitation to party and be as loud as they want with no consideration of their fellow campers.

I have trained all my life and said I would be happy to help. The horse was recovering from laminitis. I did all the basic ground work and liberty work with the gelding. The horse seemed shut down but performed well for me. I then did four trail rides on the horse and he was quiet and docile. On the fifth ride, while I had the gelding in a soft jog, he threw me harder than any horse I have ever ridden. ( I've only been thrown twice) There was no warning. I broke my neck and had numerous other injuries. Many weeks later a friend of Skips asked me why I took in such a problem horse that had violently thrown 7 other people. I was aghast, as Skip had never told me this was a dangerous horse that waited to get its rider. He never said the horse had even bucked. Not too long before I took the gelding in for training (WHY DIDNT SKIP DO IT?) Skip asked me to do liberty work with a woman and her horse. I agreed. The session went superbly well and I was pleased with the result as I had never met the horse. He later told me I made him look bad. I should have taken that as a warning on any future business dealings with him. I am lucky as I am not paralyzed. I had to quit training for a living though. The whole fam-bam was out there by 7 a.m., lines in the water as soon as we could get them in. About 30 minutes in, our middle child--who ALWAYS seems to be the first to catch something--reeled in the first fish. Not long after, our youngest caught one too, literally right after releasing the first! Then I got in on the action, followed by my husband. Our oldest was getting tons of bites but just couldn't land one. With only about 30 minutes left before we had to pack up for the parade, my husband gave him a tip and sent him to his go-to spot. Boom--fish on the line right away! He let that one go, cast again, and caught another within minutes. It was a perfect ending to our morning. Rollins Lake is such a fun spot to fish as a family.
