The first preschool we tried was more like a daycare. The teachers did not have advanced education degrees and seemed burned out. My daughter was bored and often said she didn't want to go to school. With Vancouver Montessori you will immediately notice how the environment is so vibrant. The administrators are sharp and lovely. The teachers are extremely engaged with the children and extremely professional to work with. My daughter is smiling and happy now that I made a switch. She talks about her teacher and friends which she never did before. I especially like lunch hour which is set up with table cloths. They are being taught not only school subjects, but life skills such as structure and manners. A private education that is worth every bit of the tuition!

Cathedral School has been an exceptional experience for our family. We've lived in 12 different…read moreplaces over the past 15 years, and our kids have attended a variety of schools -- so we have quite a bit to compare it to. When we moved to Portland, our children were already preteens and teenagers, and we knew we couldn't afford to get this decision wrong. Cathedral has been exactly what we were hoping for (and my high schooler is a bit upset he was never able to attend). The environment is both energetic and welcoming. The teachers are professional, genuinely caring, and excellent at what they do. The elementary and middle school years are all about building a strong foundation, and that's exactly what students receive from day one. Every child is truly seen, known, and supported, due to the small class sizes. Teachers understand their students not just academically, but personally -- and that kind of attention makes a lasting difference. Academically, the program is both thoughtful and rigorous. While it may not specifically market itself as STEM-focused, there's a strong and consistent emphasis on critical thinking, problem-solving, and preparing students for high school -- it honestly feels more STEM-driven than it claims. At the same time, the arts and music programs are fantastic and add so much depth to the overall experience. The teachers are true professionals in their respective fields, bringing both expertise and passion to the classroom. Graduates leave confident and exceptionally well-prepared, going on to outstanding Catholic and independent high schools, as well as advanced programs within public schools. Just as important is the culture. The school community is safe, respectful, and grounded in kindness and accountability. There is very little tolerance for bullying -- something we've unfortunately experienced elsewhere -- and issues are handled appropriately and proactively. Character development isn't just talked about; it's part of daily life. Although rooted in Catholic values, Cathedral is welcoming and inclusive of families from a wide range of faith backgrounds. The location truly can't be beat. Yes, it's downtown, and like many urban areas there have been a few challenging years -- but the school prioritizes safety at every level. Security is strong, and any concerns (which, thankfully, have been minimal to none) have always been addressed quickly and appropriately. We've consistently felt that student safety is taken seriously and handled with care. Lastly, my high schooler is now in advanced classes (high school), and I've noticed that many of his classmates also came from Cathedral. That says a lot. The foundation they're building there clearly sets students up for long-term success -- the school must be doing something very right. If you're looking for a PK-8 school where your child will be challenged academically, supported emotionally, and truly known by dedicated teachers, Cathedral School is an outstanding choice.

The academics are challenging and students are held to high standards. Behavior issues are addressed directly and thoughtfully, and while middle school naturally comes with some social ups and downs, concerns like bullying are taken seriously and handled appropriately from what I've seen. Communication from teachers and staff has been great; I appreciate being kept in the loop, even about small things like when a student isn't paying attention, because it shows how engaged and attentive the teachers are. The teachers! Absolutely top notch and very hard working. No one is checked out. I also love that 6th-8th graders have the chance to be part of a leadership program and are encouraged to serve their school and the wider community. It's been wonderful to see students given real responsibilities at school events. Overall, it feels like a supportive, structured environment where priorities revolve around academics and student success.

It's in a historic house in the middle of old Battle Ground which really lends itself to play based learning. The kids don't seem like they are in a classroom setting. They do learn standard preschool academics here but the focus is on social and emotional growth and support and play based learning. My husband and I took turns going to the parent classes lead by the preschool teacher and I truly don't think any one thing has helped our family out more. We are better parents for it. As a co-op you learn and work alongside other families so you can really find a wonderful community here. I really can't recommend this school enough!

I tried calling and going there and I also get an answer where someone is going to call me back. I mean be up front about kids you can't take instead having a parent wondering around hoping their kids will go there, when they could have spend that time looking for elsewhere. People there's looks young maybe in their twenties. Probably one person there might be older than 50's. Maybe they don't know the business or respect. I wouldn't want someone to do that to me. The teachers are so passionate about helping the children grow and learn, and they truly care about the children and families who attend. It is hard for me to put into words how wonderful this place is, but I will do my best to express how lucky we feel to have been part of the Kidspace family for the past few years. When my daughter started at Kidspace, we were so excited to see how much she loved going to school everyday. The very nurturing atmosphere allowed my daughter to challenge herself and grow through hands on play and exploration in all areas of learning, and with a lovely focus on nature and the outdoors. The incorporation of the Nature School program twice each week has been something we feel lucky to have been part of. My daughter also loves the indoor gym and the outdoor play space, and her creativity, imagination, and engagement in learning have grown tremendously since she started at Kidspace. My daughter also loved attending the weekly Gymnastics class hosted at Naydenov. The owners, Kathy and Sharon, are so passionate about what they do, as are all of the teachers we've had the pleasure of working with, and all of the staff go above and beyond to help the kiddos feel comfortable, happy, and able to express themselves, while feeling challenged to do their very best. Being that this is the first year they have implemented a Kindergarten class, we were so excited to have had this opportunity to continue my daughter's education at such an amazing facility. When Covid hit, we knew there would be some changes to what school might look like. Kidspace has absolutely exceeded our expectations. Kathy and Sharon transformed the space to make it very Covid friendly so that we felt confident our daughter would be safe and healthy while going to school everyday. Temperature checks upon arrival, sanitization stations, mask wearing, plexiglass partitions, and other impressive Covid measures made us feel so lucky to be able to continue our educational experience without worrying about the virus. The Kindergarten teachers have done an incredible job starting my daughter's elementary education journey, with the Nellie Edge program, ASL, singing, dancing, helping her find a love and passion for reading, numbers, nature, and more. My kid asks to go to school almost every day. My mind is at ease at drop off off, and when I pick her up, she is usually beaming about what they did in school that day. As a bonus, she has made several great friends. In my personal experience in observing many preschools and interacting with their children and staff as part of my job, many are just meeting the basic needs. Yes, the children are usually safe. But are they engaged? Educated thoughtfully? Do they feel like part of the school family? Do YOU? At Kidspace they are and you will! Kidspace is magical and a revelation. Okay so I'm an old student at camas schools. I whent from 1st grade all the way to 8th grade. This…read moreschool district only cares for their grades. They do not care about the students well fair, or mental health. They hire inappropriate substitute teachers and everyday teachers. When I say inappropriate I mean lowkey either pedophilia or the teacher doesnt do there job. When My peers or myself would report the teacher or sub it would be taken with a grain of salt and would be ignored. There was a substantial teacher that I had twice, and each time would go up to the boys in my class and start massaging there shoulders and start saying "how's your work going baby?" And would continue to say thing about how they wanted to convince some students in my class into there home. And this substitute is still working there. Another example of a teacher being out of line was a math teacher named br. Burton, who works at skyrdige middle school. He would sit there for the entire class period, and tell everyone about his life. He never taught us the curriculum and would get mad when we would have a class adverage of an F. Again, my peers and me have reported the teachers that have been out of line and it has been ignored. At one point, one of my friends was being bullied and they reported it over and over and it was ignore and that friend almost committed suicide because they where being ignored. It took the person almost committing suicide for the school to do anything about the bullying.
