    Yum Yum Peking Duck

Other choices are available, but I didn't feel like soup or anything. The Peking duck (49) was not bad, though they didn't do a good job of cleaning the fat off the skin (which proper Peking duck is supposed to have), and the duck wasn't all that flavorful - maybe cause the sauce and green onions didn't taste right. The dish is really made for about 10 people as part of a family-style dinner, so I possibly just had a bit too much of the same flavor, but I thought the Peking duck was just mediocre. I've had much better lettuce wraps before, and don't think I'll be returning to Yum Yum, even though it may be the best for Peking duck in Brissy. It didn't live up to my expectations, and just got me craving for Great China's peking duck. Theirs is good enough that I'll put up with their unfriendly and inattentive service just to get some of their duck (and crab and buns)! Ah, I miss good Chinese food...

The little restaurant is a bit tiny inside, and echoey as I found out, so we did spend most of the time not focussing on our food, but on the conversation on the next table. Hey, it's not like we interruped him, we were the only other people in there! The next time we did focus on the food, and while the peking duck this restaurant boasts is pretty yummy (3.5/5 i'm a bit of a peking duck nazi) there are other dishes which compliment that style as well. Plus, you can come in and buy some BBQ meats hanging in the front display window for take away, you just tell them how much, they chop it up and off you go. The dry beef ho fan is quite delicious and packed full of flavour, and I really did love their roast pork and tofu hot pot. Both are tasty and leave you wanting more. I know that a lot of places have given this place raving reviews, evidence of the newspaper and magazine articles are cut out and sticky taped to the front door. I know that people like Bernie from Powderfinger even go there. But i've been to my fair share of chinese tucker places, and while this place has been highly rated, I can't say it's made my top 5. Go there for the duck and a few select dishes, you won't be disappointed. But make no mistake... this place is famous for it's duck... not it's dishes.

Had the Lemon Calamari for a entrée, which was enough to share . My daughter had the Hickery Burger which was really good . I had the rump steak which I payed $ 31 , came out exactly the way I ordered. And believe it or not, I thought it was better than the Brecky Creek. Yes , that's right better. Will come back. He also collected our plates by placing a pile of dirties on the table in front of us, scraping scraps onto the top plate, then stacking under and continuing along the table. My husband handed his steak back to a waitress, explaining that his chicken wings topper was missing. They returned his plate a minute later stating that the topper hadn't been charged for, so if he wanted it he would have to go back and order it and pay for it first. He declined and accepted his plate as it was but sat and calculated our order and worked out that he had paid for the topper after all. When he told them she tried insisting that he was wrong but after actually checking the register receipt discovered he was correct she grudgingly went and organised his topper, no apology. I was also disappointed with the food this time. The antipasto pizza was edible but the pizza base was like a frozen supermarket pizza, not a "wood-fired" pizza, the "char-grilled" eggplant and zucchini were tiny steamed cubes, and the roasted capsicum was missing entirely. Most of the meals in our group were quite nice but the attitude of the staff really brings it down and I had to discard 2 water glasses before I found one without lipstick on the rim. Won't be going back.

We are told you do not tip here in Australia but once they find out you are an American the are grabbing for the cash. Grace, the bar tender, was nice enough, trying to make our drinks, of which no one here in Queensland -- or New South Wales for that matter (Sydney anyway) -- seemed never to have heard of a martini, was very quick to grab the $10 bill from my hand and say "thank you very much" before I even had the chance to say 'could I get change for this ten?" I was so taken by surprise I just smiled and chalked it up to the degradation of first world societies materialistic training. Sad really. The manager was just out right rude which added to my disillusionment! On a side note: cigarette smoke wafted in from out side giving us the true bar-room feel which, by-the-bye, did not enhance the meal!

I believe it's newly renovated and the atmosphere is wonderful. High set ceilings wonderful looking bar and grate sports/betting area with huge plasma TVs showing several different betting opportunities. Although, When we went to order to start with was great cheep food and not to busy! The menu really didn't have a lot of options if you didn't want to eat a burger. I ordered the only vegetarian option in the burgers and my partner ordered the chicken parmigiana. My burger came up and was huge! Although the it was mainly just lettuce! A lot of lettuce! There was about 2 slices of tomato and a good amount of avocado although it wasn't ripe and tasted terrible! My partners came out on a small plate with a lot of coleslaw! No chips were on the plate ether! We then realised why the food was so cheep as we had to order our own side of chips! The chicken parmigiana was really small as well! He said it was pretty average taste wise also! I order chips and gravy with mine and the gravy smelt so good! I couldn't wait to try it! But it was so watery! It was a really poor excuse for gravy! The chips were yummy with was really the only upside to the whole meal! Disappointed unfortunately.

The broth of the pho was delicious, albeit a little on the weak/watered down side. The Viet iced coffee (listed as iced white coffee) is strong and served in a sealed plastic cup. They have various Asian cold desserts (grass jelly!). The restaurant itself is clean and basic with ample seating for groups of 2-6. The staff are still finding their footing but are trying their best at providing efficient service. It's one of the nicer places to eat within Inala and still very cheap. Mid-week at lunchtime saw this place still bustling and almost at full capacity! I'd suggest it if you're ever in the area!

The waitstaff aren't too bad in general, however, there was one person in particular that definitely stood out and made an big impression on us. He works behind the counter and he is extremely warm, friendly and helpful and greets us in and out with a huge smile every time. In fact, he stuck his head out the door to greet us before we even entered the place which we kinda found a bit comical since most Vietnamese people I know (or people in general) aren't anywhere near this friendly :D I also feel that he is truly genuine and not simply being friendly for the sake of what's in our wallets. The food is of a excellent standard, portion sizes are very, very generous even for what you're paying. I've only eaten here twice, and only had a few dishes, but I can tell that the chef here knows his stuff and executes the dishes very well. My friend ordered a Com Do Ga Chien Gion (Crispy Chicken with Red Rice) and the chicken was cooked to perfection... succulent chicken with a nice thin crispy layer of skin over it. It just had a great delicious crispy texture to it. It was still crisp even after half an hour of being served. I've yet to see any other Vietnamese restaurant in Brisbane execute this technical dish so well. We had dinner there last time on a Friday night, but despite that there were only a handful of people there. Which just didn't make sense to me considering that the food was so good here. So, I'm going out of my way to promote this place and I hope you come and give this place go and help support it. I wouldn't want a nice place with nice food like this to go down simply because of location or lack of advertising. The only couple minor complaints I have is that some of the dishes might be a bit too salty like soup broth and also the portion sizes might be a bit too large and that a lot of people especially people with lower appetites would just end up throwing away most of their meal. But, at least you'll know you'll be hungry afterwards :)
