cement, more cement, no shade for shine or rain. thx thom!!

caltrans' vast hideous, cement plaza greets the visitor. thanks thom mayne (the architect), this is just what we need in los angeles. more uninspired, penal-looking architecture by mayne. how does he keep getting awarded these enormous projects?? award-winning from whom i cannot imagine. vestigial 1980s flourishes. all singularly vacant & boring. virtually NO greenspace or plantings & a complete ABSENCE of SHADE is a disgrace in a city that already gets so hot from being largely paved over. it was 95° on the day i was there, i expect the plaza was even hotter than that. excellent air conditioning, however, if you have to wait in the lobby as i did. front desk security very nice & helpful. went to pick up a caltrans claim form for under $10,000, which is a category handled by this office, district 7. [higher value claims go to a different office.]

Parking is free after 8pm I go for it's beautiful art installation It's typically lonely at nights with security guards constantly checking up on people. Theyre extremely friendly. So that's a plus. It's located a block a at from Wellers Court (Little Tokyo) a must visit place for amazing photography

Things To Do In LA O.

Say Hello to Los Angeles's Death Star. This death fortress is one of the coolest looking buildings in LA and has no ties to the army. It's the Caltrans headquarters. Who knew caltrans needed a death fortress. It's amazing to see up close or while walking through Little Tokyo. from the blog of jamesstata From the outside, this building hulks and humiliates with its scale It's a towering, gray block of a building that says, "This is the bureaucracy of transportation, and you aren't welcome here." (Note: If you aren't a Californian, Caltrans is the state transportation agency.) Yea this massive building is for the people who work on our freeways. It's crazy. It would be nice if the rest of the area looked as cool as that building or that the building was actually used for a meaningful purpose, not some dumb beaurcrats place to go to work. Oh no Cal trans has grown to powerful and will destroy us!

I was seen fairly quickly but likely due to my uncomplicated request. When I left near 12:30p, there was a line out the door with security limiting access inside due to capacity. Security kept the limit of people inside comfortable for everyone. I came at the perfect time, and recommend considering arriving before employees take their breaks for lunch. This location seems extremely busy, and long waits are likely common depending on your situation. With an ever revolving door of people coming in requesting help, employees look spent and over it. I don't blame them, but it was a little depressing once I was called. Most people waiting inside were in good spirits, but the energy of employees behind the glass were over it and again, I was gone by 12:30p. They probably get some out of pocket guests often. The welcome crew that guides and hands your numbers were in better spirits, they really do set the tone for everyone coming in. It can't be easy, so I appreciate everyone that made this experience so seamless.

Upon entering off Figueroa St you'll see two lines to your left, one for birth the other for death. The forms off to the right either for birth or death certificates. Once you complete your form you'll have two lines. Service is very quick I was in and out with the birth certificate in less than 10 minutes around 11am. Plan your day to avoid the LA traffic jam then enjoy your day in LA. Both parents do not need to be present to obtain a birth certificate. Parking available in the structure or street meter. If meter parking is available I suggest that one as you typically won't be there long. So if you live or pass away in LA this is a place you'll have to be at. Don't worry you won't wait in traffic like on the LA freeways at this spot. God bless

I specifically reported that they were in the ceiling, I can hear them running in the evenings. The county inspector came over, notified the building manager days before coming, and said she saw nothing. Of course, the manager quickly replaced the foam tiles, painted them, patched them up and vaccuumed the floor. There were still signs - some urine stains and some chewed corners of tiles- but when I asked if she had seen that evidence, she said it was only in her "job description to look down for rat feces - not to look up." I was amazed... I asked specifically for her to look into rats living in a ceiling space and it's not in her job description to look up? What a sad excuse. It's disgusting that these employees don't do what's morally right, and they get paid big $. Why would you announce that you're going to do an inspection so the builing can hide their evidence? Why wouldn't you look up? You expect me to believe that there's a job description that says don't look up? or barely shift a tile to see the rat nests/feces? I offered to do this myself in her presence and she refused to come back for me to show her the feces. Tax money laundering at it's finest. What is the point of this department if no one does their job? Not even the supervisor cared when I called in. She could hardly speak English, and didn't care at all. Her job security is off the charts.

This is…read morean update that is long over due but my parents had been US citizens for almost two years now (Ya!!!). For those wondering what the sworn in ceremony is like don't get too excited because the whole thing is really a glorified storytelling/money making/recruiting event for the immigration office. Don't worry if you got there an hour or two late because when you get to the sworn in location (for my parents they did it in the Dodger Stadium) you will face traffic jam that are way worse then LA freeway morning rush because they make everyone pay for parking (hence the money making part) and go through all the security checks in order get in. We left at 7am, finally got in at like 9am but they didn't even begin the ceremony until like 1pm because they are still sitting people. And then when they finally begin they will having a bunch of I guess important people telling you the same old "hey I was a poor kid but I work hard and I become successful and this is only possible if you are in America" stories just to make you feel good that you've spend a ton of coins for the citizenship (hence the stories part). Every now and then you will have some immigration officers telling us that they are recruiting and they have booths if you are interested (hence the recruiting event part). I been through it myself back in 2020 but ya it's really nothing to be excited about to be honest, if you wondered why they don't give you the options to opt out of the ceremony it's because it's how they make money and hire new people (Ya capitalism!!).

From a landlord AND a tenant's perspective I give them all 4-5 stars. I spoke with one earlier this week and he was 5+ stars. #Fabian G! Now the helpline. That needs work. Earlier in the week I called and there were 63 callers in front of me. I had to leave a callback number. Okay, 63 is a fairly high number. Today I called and there were 21 callers in front of me. I wanted to wait. No option to wait. How can there be 21 people waiting, but I can't wait if I want to? Blank stare. Is 21 the cutoff. 22 no go? Anyway, once you get someone, there aren't very helpful or knowledgeable. You will have to ask to be transferred to a supervisor, but the supervisors don't pick up the phones OR call back. As a landlord, I'm paying for this. There should be more of a balance between the benefits for tenants and landlords. Specifically with working through issues that are contained within the RSO. By the way, the LA County Consumer Affairs people - they pick up the phone. #LEVELUP
