I've been here a couple of times for planned events where my group has rented out the top floor. The bar supplies bartenders and we were able to cater in dinner and bring in our own DJ. This year, the rooftop bar had some expanded seating, which was a nice perk (for a private event at least, I don't know how accessible it might be otherwise). The drink selection is kind of limited if you don't arrange for cocktails, etc, and the bartenders can be hit or miss. This year we had a couple of great people mixing drinks for our event. I'm not much for the bar scene, so I can't give an opinion on a regular night, but they did really well with the event. read more

I was at a club event on April 20 at Callahan's. Food was promised, as were "featured drinks." The food was apparently (re-?)heated at the last moment, but not thoroughly, and heating cans were eventually provided, to little avail. The "featured drinks" consisted of one bottle each of Monkey 47 whisky and some no-name very young-tasting bourbon...THAT WAS IT. The bar was open, of course, with a pair of fantastic bartenders, but the prices were ASTRONOMICAL for such an event. The ownership and/or management seemed to be disinterested (at best) in ensuring the quality of the event. I have had some good experiences in the past at Callahan's, and I hope this is not indicative of the place overall, but it was extremely disappointing. read more

NEVER AGAIN!!! I thought this place was gonna be popping like busy it was so dead only 5 people was in there on the rooftop.. ON A SATURDAY NIGHT!!!! The bartender up top was a bitch too. I fucking hate Callahan's so much. It so often full of chodes and there's nothing Irish about it. This is even worse than the other bars on Park Street and the rest of them suck. At least those have okay drink prices. This bar will rip you off and they can't even make basic cocktails. I like the patio which is the only redeemable feature of this bar. It offers a good view of the skyline. There are two floors which are a bit different from each other. At ground level is a bar that has stools around it. This is the quieter part where you stand to be able to hear a conversation. Better service is also here. Upstairs are two more bars. One is at the top of the stairs. There's a narrow passage between the bar and the wall so it's always super crowded. Another bar is outside on the patio. This area is crowded on good nights which means there's a wait to get outside. All the drinks are overpriced. They also sometimes have a $5 cover. It's not worth it when it's free so why the fuck pay to get in. There is nothing cheap here which make Brothers look much better than here which is really sad. I would recommend to go to another bar. To another one not on Park Street. You will hate it here and hate yourself. read more

Service was terrible. All the men were served before the women at the event I was at. The bouncer kept yelling "Purse"at me at the door and assaulted our dates. Drinks are wayyyyyy too expensive. One of the men that works there poked on the top of my head twice in an aggressive manner to let me know he wanted to get past me and then proceeded to shove past me before I had time to react. Was looking for a happening spot in Columbus while in town for a wedding and stumbled upon Callahan's. No cover at 11pm on a Saturday (not sure if they ever have a cover?). Ground floor bar and indoor bar upstairs were both empty, but the outside rooftop was pretty crowded. Fun outdoor space, fine drinks. I didn't love the music the dj was playing, it was danceable but usually your looking for hits and music currently on the radio, something everyone knows and can jam to easily, and that's not quite what they were playing. Overall a good spot if your looking to go out in short north. read more

I came here for a UYE (Unofficial Yelp Event) around 6pm for their happy hour. The only familiar face I saw was Christina, but I got to meet a lot of new people, including a coworker who worked at the same plant (small world). Most of the people were from meetup.com though. In terms of the venue, I walked in the front door and thought I was at the wrong place. The entire place was completely empty, save one guy at the bar. No one greeted me, and I ended up walking around a bit before taking the stairs up and seeing the Yelp people outside. Also, they only reserved five tables for us and didn't do much else. There wasn't even a menu with the specials posted. It's also incredibly sunny up on the rooftop patio until 7:30pm, which sucks. read more

I don't know what happened to this bar. It used to be my favorite bar in Columbus. It still has some of the best views the city has to offer on the rooftop bar. Unfortunately, it's gone downhill significantly over the past few years. My friend's birthday was Friday and we wanted to enjoy the rooftop a little after 11, prime time bar hours. Apparently they hosted a sorority prior to this and they had closed the rooftop to the public because there weren't enough customers to open it, even though the staff remaining and the patio lights were illuminated. The whole bar was empty. I understand they have 3 bars and having all three open for maybe 5 customers is crazy. But just open the patio and the downstairs bar! The staff is there regardless. Went there for a drink with my sister. $35 for two red bull vodkas in mouth-wash size cups. Was told the price was because you have to pay for a can of red bull. Which is fine, but bartender used less than one can total in both drinks, and refused to give us the extra that we "bought". Also they physically hold your credit card for a tab, which is very outdated and I don't really trust them. Kinda killed the vibe, we ended up going to seesaw and spending less money there on drinks. read more

The rooftop deck with views of the Columbus skyline is truly beautiful. I marveled at the Nationwide building. Then people started to line dance. They knew every step. There were about 20 people dancing in synchronicity to terrible line dance rap music. I wonder if they all practice the moves together or by themselves at home. Then my friend Lil C-Style ran up on a nice group of ladies and started C-Walking in between them all. At that point, it was realized that it would be a good time to leave Callahan's. read more

A friend of mine had the perfect description for this place not too long ago. Quite simply: "It's a meat market". Shenanigan's has 3 totally separate atmospheres and environments--and one should suit your mood. None will be the best of that kind. First floor, pretty average bar. Not too loud, no dancing; just a large bar with a handful of tables and room to move around. If you get dragged to Callahan's by your friends, and you hate the upstairs, you'll probably be content with the downstairs. Upstairs, inside--this area is sort of disgusting. It's trashy, dirty, loud, dark and sweaty. It honestly kind of sucks, but to each his own. Some love it--I hate wading through it to get to the outside. Upstairs, outside--this area can be great, or it can be pretty obnoxious. Lately, if you get there after 10:30-11:00 you're gonna end up waiting 15-20 minutes just to get outside (even if you just want to go in and use the bathroom--you'll end up waiting to get back out and join your friends). When the weather is nice though, the outside is pretty nice and enjoyable.It always seems to be relatively busy and take a while to get a drink--but that's to be expected I guess. read more

Callahan's bills itself as an "upscale Irish pub" - if that's what you're looking for, walk two blocks south to O'Shaughnessy's, 'cause it ain't at Callahan's. I've been in here a few times on the weekends, and it's always been an ungodly packed college crowd. Upstairs - which I think is only open on the weekends - is a dance floor and a nicely sized (and heated) rooftop patio. I believe it was $4 for a Miller Lite bottle, so it's not cheap, but I guess that's on par with the Arena District. Overall - meh. It's not my first choice or even a top choice of the Park Street bars, but I've consistently had a decent time here. read more

The best way to describe Callahan's is confusing.... After a long night of couch surfing, I got a call from some friends who wanted to go out on Park St.... Since I was in the neighborhood, I decided to meet them out... We were going to go to Park St. Patio (not a favorite either), but, the line was so long we just decided to walk over to Callahan's which looked pretty empty. This wasn't my first trip to Callahan's, but, this is the first time I actually explored the whole establishment... The first floor is weird... it has zero character... It doesn't remind me of an Irish pub and bars with carpeted floors freak me out! It was a Saturday night and it didn't seem like there was anyone there... I was wrong.... After we got our beers we decided to venture upstairs.... This is apparently where everyone goes... and this is when things just got weird.... We walked up the stairs and its like I walked into the Red Zone circa 1998... It was loud, packed and just plain cheesy... After walking through a dance floor we found the upstairs patio... which has so much potential, but, was just terrible. Maybe if I was 23 or 24 years old I could tolerate the crowd, but, to me it just seemed like a bunch of college kids. We stayed for one more round of beers, but, I just couldn't deal, so, I walked out and went home. I think Callahan's has potential, they just need to get a grip on their identity crisis. read more

The highlight of our brief stop at Callahan's was the most amazing outfit choice I saw the entire weekend. Let me describe the look, from head to toe: gelled hair, sunglasses, tie, black button-down with a popped collar and angel wings screen-printed on the back, red sport shorts, white socks, and black patent-leather dress shoes. Somehow I always end up here and my med school class always ends up here? I don't know how it happens, and it's a little shameful but whatever. Overall pretty fun and comfortable--especially the patio in the winter time when it's not too crowded, with the benefit of AMAZING GYRO CARTS OUTSIDE when you're totally over it. Hang on to your phone, wallets, etc. when here--being lowkey robbed at Callahan's is part of the experience! One time an incredible "fight" broke out and then suddenly a lot of people lost their wallets and phones, it was honestly artistic. Whoever the thieves were I have to say they should consider going into a career in performance art. I am also in a position of privilege as a girl so the bouncers have always been exceptionally nice to me. That being said, if there is ever a line for the patio ladies and you are despo to get out there, the key is to just go to the bathroom on the second floor and then sneak past the bouncers onto the patio; they will never stop you and you will feel like effing Carmen Sandiego for your clever deception! As for music, think beep boop remix of Taylor Swift songs. The music at Foot Locker on High Street is significantly better than the music at Callahan's. read more

Apparently the upstairs is a dance club, and not much for a bar downstairs. Being from out of town, we were looking for something a bit quieter. At 10pm, it was nearly empty. Our conversation with the waiter began with: Do you have pitchers? - No. Do you have buckets? - No. What do you have local? - We don't. Ok. Dissapointing selection, but we ended up with some domestics. We had a very friendly conversation with the owner, and had some tasty blueberry lemonade shots. Our friends ended up returning later in the evening, and the place was packed! So, go there for the dancing, not for quality of beer. read more

I would give zero stars if I could. I've never had a worst experience at a bar in my life. I assume the majority of its clientele is college students because they treated me as such even though I'm a 33 year woman. I was physically assaulted by their bouncer as I was exiting the establishment for walking out the left front door instead of the right. He shut me in the door as I was walking out bruising my lower back and arm. After I confronted him, I walked toward the street to call an Uber. He followed me and then tried to push me into the traffic filled street. NEVER EVER GO TO THIS PLACE!!!!! Meh. Only go for the rooftop patio and the dancing, which is still the go-to place for me and my girls to go to at the beginning of the night. Doesn't get crowded until maybe 11pm on most nights. DJ is better than others in Arena District, but I've discovered BBR recently and the music is better there. MAIN COMPLAINT is the asshole bartender on the rooftop that snubbed me from water ("not right now" and gives me the hand) and gives my friend a hard time for wanting to charge her credit card for a drink ("a card, really?") AND MAKES her pay in cash. What bad service! However, there is a nice guy on staff that went out looking for me with a flashlight and a bandage when I got cut from some broken glass one time. And another time, my friend got cut with glass (this seems to be a common occurence so watch out!) they let us sit down on one of the reserved tables and gave us table service. So...Meh. Callahan's should have you read a disclaimer when you enter, explaning that it should really be considered as two separate bars: Downstairs- The upscale Irish pub that it promotes itself to be (although the only thing "Irish" about it is the name and the larger beer selection in comparison to most bars) AND Upstairs- The club-tastic dance floor complete with late 90's rap mixes After enjoying an hour or so sipping my Guinness and chatting with friends at one of the high-top tables downstairs, I decided to venture upstairs and thought I missed the sign for the other bar that I just entered. Woah- This scene didn't match the one below! Speakers were blaring R&B music and the dance floor was filled with hot bodies bumping, grinding and fist pumping (of course) to the beat. After I got over my initial shock, I was able to enjoy myself and joined in on the dirty dancing. I've decided that I like both levels of Callahan's. In fact, it's somewhat convenient. You can start the night out with your friends all low-key: just sipping on some drinks and playing Journey on the jukebox. Then, as the night goes on and you can start feeling the effect of your beverages, you can meander upstairs to the club scene and express yourself through the art of dance! read more

We have always have a great time at Callahan's! The bar tenders are always very polite and fast to accommodate everyone! The DJ always plays great music and the crowd is great. What's best is that recently my friend lost her purse at the bar with a good amount of cash and her phone and ID and they called her the next day and overnighted everything back to her!!!! Was not impressed. First off, went with a group so we had a special space set up. They had a drink on the shelf that was not in stock and instead of giving me the bottle with some ice they said no. So I got something else. Two drinks that were $9 seemed like a lot considering they weren't that great. Then there was the DJ. He did not listen to any of our requests. I don't get how they are an Irish bar other than a few things on the walls and the name. If you want to experience the closest thing to an Irish bar out side of Ireland go to Fado's at Easton. (also what silly location for it... but anyway). The crowd is what you'd expect from the Arena District scene.. so no surprises when you stop in. Sometimes it is more quiet than the rest so that is always nice. The servers have always been friendly as well so that is bonus. read more

My best friend and I threw ourselves a 24th birthday party this past weekend. Everything was perfect, friends, family, booze, cupcakes! What more can you ask for, right? Around midnight we decided to wrangle everyone up and head to one of the bars on Park Street. After much debate we decided on Calahan's thinking it wouldn't be too busy, because every other time we have gone there it hasn't been. Easy in and easy access to the bar. Boy were we wrong. There was a line out the door and they were only letting one in for every one out! Ridiculous, especially in the chilly temperatures. While I used the "It's my birthday," line to get us in faster, it was pointless. The bar was absolutely packed to the point of not being able to get a drink. Not fun. I quickly got out of there and headed over to my fav place Park Street Tavern. read more

I was at this bar with two of my girlfriends and a male friend who happens to be gay. I was dancing with them the whole night when a bouncer pulled my male friend aside and told him he was getting kicked out because apparently the DJ heard him call some girls some crude name and was harassing them. I came to his defense saying I was with my friend the whole night and he would never do that and the bouncer says, "Oh you're gay, you must be really sassy." They proceeded to kick my friend out anyway. I then asked for the bouncers name, which he would not give me and started recording this conversation (for my own protection, not to use against anyone else). Ohio has a one party consent law so I felt comfortable I was not breaking the law. Because the bouncer refused to give me his name and I felt like my friend was mistreated and even possibly kicked out for being gay and keeping the creeps away from me and my girls, I asked to speak to the general manager (Brad). Brad reassured me that my friend was kicked out due to the allegations of the DJ against him, but when I expressed my concerns about discrimination the conversation quickly got ugly with Brad threatening to sue me for recording him, asking me where I lived, and what I did for a living. When he found out I was a local physician, he also threatened to look me up on the internet, call the American Medical Association, find out where I worked, and try to get me fired for being a physician out at a bar (last time I checked it's not illegal for a 31 year old physician to go to a bar when they're not on call or responsible for taking care of patients). He also asked me to give him my cell phone and my drivers license. I foolishly gave the cops my drivers license so they copied it but at no point did I act aggressively or unprofessionally. I just confronted the manager with how my friend was treated and I was met with some pretty serious threats. I would not recommend this place. They have some seriously messed up staff. The conversation ended with, "I'll see you in court." For what, I cannot possibly fathom. read more

So there are better bars on this street compared to Callahan's. Honestly, Callahan's isn't too shabby, it's just only a 2-star compared to the other bars around. The places feels like your super typical bar-- it's dirty, it's big, it's got loud music and a drunk crowd. I love the rooftop patio here. It is essentially three floors. Downstairs it is more like a pub. The second floor is more of a dance club. Then there is the patio. I have been here a couple times. One time we sat out on the patio and listened to a band...which was very nice. My most recent experience we went up to the patio and it was extremely crowded. There was a dj this time....who was not very good I might add. It was kind of a let down. It was much better when it was less crowded and more laid back. read more
