I was assigned a room on the third floor and when I first walked in, everything looked in order. The room appeared to be clean, but once I pulled back the sheets, a used paper towel fell to the floor. After a closer inspection of the paper towel, I called the front desk to let them know what I found. The lady on the phone asked what I would like done and I told her I would like to have housekeeping change my sheets and she said they were gone for the day. I then asked if I could have a new room. She told me to come back to the desk for a new room card. Once downstairs she had my new room card ready for me and I was now on the second floor. Again, everything in the room looked in order. The room was clean and had a king-sized bed. It had a work area with a satellite TV. There was a refrigerator, coffee maker, and ice bucket in the room. In the closet there was an iron and ironing board. In the bathroom there was a bar of soap and makeup remover towelette on the vanity and in the shower there was shampoo, conditioner and body wash. The room was fine, it was a little tough to control the temperature in this room and all four pillows were down-filled and terrible to sleep on, they flattened out too much. Based on my stay here, I would pick a different hotel the next time I'm in the area.

This was the first time me and my wife were trying out a bed and breakfast place and this place has made us try more in future. I will definitely repeat, as the town is very small and quiet and has some historical places, restaurants and tours which you can do when you come down. Sally the housekeeper/manager knows the best places around and also carries a couple of books which will give you an idea of all the houses built by the architect who built decker house. Breakfast - just perfect, egg Benedict and apple strudel (my first time trying any strudel and this was really yummy) and a mixed fruit salad. Thanks to Sally and Kelsey the two ladies who manage the place, we had a great time. We stayed in Magnolia suite, which was grand, with a nice King size bed (two twin beds joined)and wonderful bathroom with jacuzzi. Loved our time here, as we visited some local places like 1910 Grille (pretty famous, a bit expensive but worth the experience) and a new bar named FION which has some great collections of Sake and Wine along with very good music (owner has a lot of Vinyls and can play the music you want). Over all we both loved our time here. Do checkout the pictures and I m sure you would wanna go there as well.

The bed was new and cozy, the room was very clean. She and Micheline even attended the music show for the 65th Anniversary of Winter Dance Party at Surf Ballroom. By the time we left two days later, we felt like old friends and just loved her spirit. Any time we are going through Iowa, we'll be staying here. Thank You again! ~Lynn and Jimmy Dale

I returned about 10 minutes later and she was in her car leaving the lobby unattended over the 4th of July weekend. It was not staffed very often. The room was not clean. Luckily we bring our own slippers as the tile floor was so very sticky it was disgusting. We were only given 2 hangers. I had to borrow some from my sister from her home! However my adult children in 2 other rooms had 4! The mattress was very uncomfortable. I woke up with my bones aching. The only redeeming quality of this place was its proximity to my sister's home and we could walk there as parking was tight everywhere for the holiday weekend.

I came to Rumorz Hideaway here in charming Clear Lake, Iowa because it's right between the campgrounds and the town, which has several nice playgrounds etc... I was a tiny bit dismayed to discover that no cash transactions are accepted, so bring plastic if you're checking in. I found the front desk service to be absolutely lovely, and despite a few bumps on checking in, was delighted with the treatment I received. The room was clean and well appointed. Nice appliances beyond what you might expect. The room has a Keurig coffee maker, a fridge and microwave, an iron and ironing board, even a blow dryer! Though it may appear from the outside to be your typical motel, it is anything but. Good air conditioning and clean fresh bedding were well appreciated. There's a bar and grill right next door with good food, willing to make up carry out orders if you prefer to eat in your room. Overall, I recommend Rumorz, it's a perfect vacation spot in a very charming lake community.

The Lady goes out for a 90 minute cruise several times a day during the summer season. During the trip you can relax and learn a bit of the history of Clear Lake and if it is your pleasure, enjoy a drink (they have a bar) or two. As of August 2013, the fare is $12 for adults and IMHO, well worth the price of admission. Don't forget the sunscreen however, as I did. I paid dearly for that mistake. It really is a very nice trip out on the lake and I would do it again. They also have themed events. A few nights after our trip, they were having an "adult pirate themed" party that sounded like it was going to be great fun. If you find yourself in Clear Lake, this is something fun and relaxing to do. There aren't many real paddle boats left, so check it out while she still operates.

Apart from having all 80 eyes on us as we were boarding the cashier lady just stared at us as if we were stupid thinking we didn't speak English, while she had greeted the other white guests with smiles. For the entirety of the ride, no one was socially distanced and it was very crowded upstairs. The least the employees could do is greet people without prejudice and enforce social distancing to keep people safe.
