One of my favorite local shops for clothing, accessories, and gifts! There really few stores left where service and styling are the cornerstones of the business, and calico is one of them. The store owner, manager and all employees are happy to help and are great at what they do. Their social media is fantastic and is how I always know what's in the shop and going on at the shop. They do special events on Saturdays that bring in the community and independent makers, which is amazing. I always leave Calico with a bag in hand! read more

I had some time to kill and I drove past this cute boutique. The owner paid for my parking first of all which made my day . I didn't have any quarters and she offered some to me . I saw so many cute things and the staff there were eager to set me up a room and give me feedback . I bought a bunch of stuff including a pair of shoes that are one of my favs right about now . If you wanna feel like a rockstar and look like one too, what are you waiting for?! Get your ass into this store because it's full of fun, trendy, fashion forward pieces. Everything here is fabulous from the fantastic and always friendly staff, to the clothing/accessories to the amazing smell of the store! They get new stock frequently and there's always a fun promotion (champagne Tuesdays anyone? You'll get a glass of champagne while you shop). The owner is super nice and my fave employee is Jeff! He always picks out great pieces for me to try on and gives good feedback on ensembles (I like when people will tell you something doesn't look good). Your mood will immediately skyrocket - everyone here is so warm and friendly and they're great at making you feel like a rock star! Great service. I work out of an office in Downtown NB once a week and always check out this store on my lunch break. They do a great job of putting together fun, trendy looks and pieces that don't automatically intimidate this early 30s woman who has lost a bit of their fashion edge in recent months! Their sales racks usually have some great markdowns too. The sales associates are always friendly without being pushy. Today I had an exceptional experience with one of the sales associates (I didn't catch his name but I'm assuming it's Jeffrey based on everyone's reviews!) He took the time to give me his undivided attention to help me put together a look for my upcoming bachelorette party and rehearsal dinner. I cannot recall every getting such individualized and perceptive attention from a shopping experience in my whole life. The customer service is definitely next level here! read more

Went here on a whim and left with five outfits! The store offers really unique and fashion-forward items, and the customer service is amazing. Elissa and Jeffrey helped me pick out things I wouldn't normally try, and they ended up looking great! The clothes are a little on the pricier side, but that's the price you pay for unique, quality pieces I guess! They also have a rewards program (1 point per dollar spent that doesn't expire), so you can get money off your next purchase. I'll definitely be back to redeem mine! :) read more

Tucked away on bustling Union Street in New Bedford sits Calico, a gem of a shop and a breath of fresh air. It also has one of the best selections of fun jewelry I've ever seen -- cool necklaces to drape yourself in until the cows come home. So cool, I ended up leaving with not one, but three from a recent Trust trunk show. Three! I fear I'm turning into a bit of an addict. In addition to the jewelry, Calico has chic, on-trend and affordable clothing like BB Dakota, Alternative Apparel and Mink Pink and cute shoes and bags. Everything is fresh and cool and very chic -- edgy without being too weird and funky without being too crazy. What I think I love most about Calico is the fun vibe created by the owner, Elissa. She's very personable and fashionable, totally happy and extremely helpful. I picked up a beautiful sweater with an interesting cut, and before I could put it down she gave me a few tips on how to wear it, accessorize it and rock it. I added said sweater to my heaps of necklaces. Rumor has it Elissa will eventually open shop in Providence, as well -- she'll definitely be a welcome addition to this thriving boutique scene as Calico offers something a little different from our already stellar roster of shops. This is one of the cooler stores in New Bedford. So cool that I hopped in the car and drove the hours distance from Boston to New Bedford just to check it out in person. Lots of dress, some cool like vintage shoes with new details added, vintage bathing suits, etc. all in this cute little shop. In comparison to similar shops in Boston, the pricing was good. Its in a hip town by the sea town. Where Mody Dick was written, who knew! Well, if you are anywhere in the general area, its worth checking out! What a cool little shop! Be sure to check in. When I did, I got a check-in offer of 20% off a regular-priced item. Score! There was a nice selection of clothing here that you won't see in most mass-merchandisers. It's all definitely on-trend. The owner of this shop obviously knows what they are doing. I do have to agree that her main demographic is slightly younger than me, but there were items that I could fit into my wardrobe. I was Christmas shopping for someone in the demographic though and easily found something she will love. The young woman that took care of us was extremely helpful and friendly. She pointed out the clearance racks to us and let us know there were a lot of good items on them. She was right. Definitely worth a stop. read more

Among the city's best stores is Calico, a glorious little outpost of funky, frugal finds on Union Street just a few blocks from the city's busy industrial harbor. Calico offers fresh, forward-thinking clothing and accessories at fantastic prices. I can honestly say that I haven't found a boutique as chill as Calico anywhere in or near Providence. In an industry typically known for snobby exclusivity, Elissa Paquette is one of the friendliest, happiest and most welcoming store owners you'll ever meet. Everyone who comes through the door - no exceptions - gets a sunny, genuine, greeting. I dare you to have a conversation with her without smiling the entire time. Take note, icy diva shop owners: this is the first, and most basic, way to attract and KEEP loyal customers. A trip to Calico will leave you giddy, as you peruse a selection that is as varied as it is fanciful. A recent trip to the store uncovered Lolita-style, heart-shaped aviator sunglasses; an entirely work-appropriate leopard print blouse; a "mullet hem" (short in front, long in back!) black dress with an all over white star print; super-functional black and white lace tube tops for layering under low-cut shirts; and a tiny, gunmetal skull charm necklace. All of these items, bought together, could be had for...wait for it...under $100. Holler! Granted, some of the inventory is decidedly for the young chicks. My days of wearing "kitten garden party" leggings and Gaga-style platforms are long gone (if you're still in that fabulous stage of your life, rush right over to Calico for these pieces!). During the "post-twenties/pre-cougar" years, certain pieces start to look...inappropriate (may I please always be able to distinguish what those things are). But I still find more than my fair share of goodies at Calico, as the moms who I spot shopping here right alongside their teenage daughters, can also attest. Calico offers a VIP shopper card: when you spend $200 at the store, you get a certificate for $25 on your next visit! They're also gangbusters on social media, popping up everywhere that's anywhere on the regional fashion scene. This store is only going to get bigger and better. I wish I could make it over to this shop more often, I do not live near by, but this may be in my favor so I am not always shopping haha. They have a wonderful online store also, Calico carries jewelry, accessories, shoes, dresses, casual wear, phone covers, jeans, anything that can be matched in your own way to a Bohemian look to rock n' roll. The store currently only sells womens clothing, it's on a street where I keep noticing more shops, yoga studios, and restaurants opening. There is on street parking, I have always been able to find a spot without looping around to hunt one down. The people who work here are always friendly, helpful, dress well, playing good music and have been great with helping me put outfits or ideas together. Cute, fresh and liable to catch the eye, the outfits, shoes and accessories really don't disappoint. I've only started to really shop here about a month and some change ago and I have not had a negative experience to date. I find a lot of appeal to the organized feel of this lively boutique. The mannequins are dolled up to inspire. The staff has a great eye. Speaking of the ladies who work here...what a delight! Elissa is always friendly and ready to help when needed. It seems to be a trait that rubbed off on the others. They are attentive and on the ball. I have come quite a few times and seen any one of them assisting customers with finding outfits for events, advise on matching accessories and give honest answers to what looks good. This is simply rare to come by and it's what keeps me coming back. You will leave happy with your purchase. The prices aren't always friendly on the wallet but the quality more than meets the price. There is a sale rack and I've lucked out on some delightful deals on cute dresses. They tend to have something new every week so you may find yourself popping in quite frequently. The store has a cute vibe and nice set-up. Mostly vintage pieces with a few originals thrown in. Accessories are wonderful, and if you're not too skeezed out they've got incredible bathing suits. I picked up what I like to call my "Lisa Frank" bathing suit (pseudo-tie-dye brights with an all over metallic gold leopard print screenprinted on) here and it is in my top 5 used clothing item purchases ever. My gripe is that they run a website and the prices dont match. When I brought this to their attention they assured me that I was mistaken, but I rarely am and when I am I'll admit it. Calico is vintage shopping made easy. Everything has its place: a glass case for jewelry and funky retro shades; separate racks for dresses, tops, higher end vintage-inspired duds and frocks, and wears for dudes; shelves for shoes used and new; hooks throughout for bags and purses. I heard about this shop from the owner of Circa, my usual weekend haunt. I found myself giving it a-go on a lazy vacation Monday. I scored a used pair of Frye boots (my decade-long search is over!), which I'm pleased to not have to break in, and a vintage "California" 70s tee. I left the shop clear-minded and guilt-free as most tops are under $30. I am daydreaming though about the higher end pieces made from vintage materials. They may prove splurge-worthy on my next visit. read more

Jeffrey is happy to assist/clean/make suggestions but is not overbearing and very patient. Loved the customer service here. You will find at least one item that you love and be glad you visited.
