I'm a huge fan of the CONTROL class it's an insane workout and I left feeling like I got my butt kicked in the best possible way. The studio is also very cool, and I love that they have heated classes as well. I don't live in Cincinnati anymore, but EVERY TIME I'm in town I make sure to make stopping in a priority!

I first heard about SOS from a few folks when I worked at L Brands. They had a few loyal customers with whom I worked. To be honest, I was a little intimidated when I'd see these folks post about their workouts on social media. I had thought about trying it circa 2017, but was too intimidated (my loss!). But in 2019, I ended up with a stress fracture while marathon training. I was able to barely finish my training for the NYC Marathon, which I did successfully complete in November 2019. But at that point, it was evident that I couldn't just keep running marathons without incorporating strength training into my routine. So in Christmas Week 2019, I started with the 7 class starter pack just to try it out. I even joined Team Tread (their half & full marathon training program)in their Columbus location in January to start training for the Nashville Half in April 2020. Unfortunately for me, my SOS morning routines were abruptly halted in March 2020. But luckily, my team tread registration got me into the "digital studio" which I had no idea what it was at the time. I very quickly uncovered that it's all the same studio instructors and they have recorded classes with new uploads almost daily as well as a huge library of online classes (which as you can imagine has only grown in the past 5 years). I did what everyone else was doing and immediately ordered as many dumbbells, resistance bands, and other equipment to build up a "home SOS studio" and my equipment has been growing ever since. I moved to Arizona in summer 2021, and have continued to be a dedicated Digital Studio user and advocate. Whenever I come home to Ohio (whether Cbus or Cincy), I get giddy at the thought of going to classes in person and it's a treat to choose which classes I'll take and with which instructors. I can honestly say SOS Digital Studio has helped me get in the best shape of my life. I feel like I personally know all of the trainers (I don't have social media anymore, but when I did, I followed all of them, so again, felt like I kew them personally). When I was in Hawaii for my wedding, SO many people were asking me about my arms and complimenting me. I kept trying to tell them about the DS and how special SOS is. I will always be a dedicated and loyal fan. It's become such a part of my routine that I'm on Christmas Break now with my husband in Kansas (where he's from) and I've brought my ankle weights, light weights and loop bands just so I can get some classes in. Thank you, Gretchen and team for helping me be the best version of myself every day! Can't imagine what I'd do without the DS and my SOS training crew! (Only word of advice to newbies- the System DOES work! Don't skip out on any classes. As you can imagine, being a marathon runner, I favored all of the cardio classes. But it wasn't until I really started incorporating High & Tight as I prepared for my wedding that I noticed the chiseled arms that I'd always wanted. It's a well-rounded program that works wonders as long as you incorporate ALL of the classes). Particularly about the Cincy location, I love the rooms they have (1 dedicated to The Course, 1 for Ebb and High & Tight and another for In The Mix and Control). You can tell it was built after the Columbus locations! I also have only been here about 7 times total (since I'm more from the Columbus area). But both instructors Tyler and Emma have remembered me. Emma is for sure my favorite instructor. I was super spoiled this past Thanksgiving and had her for three straight days of classes! Oh how I wished I lived closer!

They opened in the middle of the pandemic, but that really has not stopped their growth of clientele. I'll start with safety. Everyone is spaced out and has their own machines and dumbbells to use. They do a cleaning after each class and you have to wear your mask to move about the class or be in any other space of the building. I have always felt very safe while in there and I am one who is definitely paranoid about the virus. Now, moving on to the workouts. It's basically a high intensity work out for an hour. You spend 15 minute increments on the floor with weights and on the treadmill- two times for each. No class is the same and no instructor is the same. I love that because you're getting a different experience every time you walk in the door. Your body will constantly be challenged because of this also. I will say that each instructor is very motivating and great at pushing you to be your best you inside and outside of the classroom. None of that "earn what you eat" mess. That's the number one thing that keeps me coming back. I've been to a lot of other gyms in the city and this one takes the cake. Check them out!

Both are close but I chose this place because the commute has less traffic, the clientele is laid back, the availability of the machines (even at peak times) and great management. We don't need state of the art equipment. Just enough to get the job done. There are Enough cardio machines, free weights and nautilus machines to go around. Classes are offered via computer. No pressure and the pricing is very reasonable . Plus they keep the facility clean. I love it here. I feel more motivated to go to the gym. I never have to wait for a machine and there are no egos!

This location may be small, but it has everything my lady and I need, and doesn't have the disrespectful clientele. One price ($34 a month) gets you access to all locations, plus an annual fee of $25, so a little more than PF, but I'll pay it for the advantage of being able get my workouts in on my terms instead of someone else's. My abs and obliques right now hurt when I bend over, in a good way though, you know "hurt so good"... yeah, in that way. Ryan was our trainer last night and he did an excellent job of keeping the energy up and the motivation going. He really made me feel like I did have 20 more seconds in me, I could really make it through! He did fail to mention though that you might feel like you can't take a deep breath in for the next day and a half, but don't worry, that's just weakness leaving the body. The trainers were awesome and super motivating, I really enjoyed when Ryan would say motivating things throughout the workout "be comfortable being uncomfortable" was something I really listened to! It was about 45 min-1 hour and we did what was called Tabatta and worked our core, we were moving the entire time! We split into smaller groups to transition through different stations / used different equipment - we did 30 seconds of an exercise, and then 10 minutes holding a position, which was hard but I liked the variety of things that we did. The music I listened to was great, and the atmosphere was very high energy! Also, I really like the before and after pictures on the wall of people doing these classes/program that have lost weight - it's super motivating! By the way - On Saturdays they do a class (free I believe?) and they also have a 14 day trial that you can do if you're unsure about joining!

However, when Tyler sent out the invitations to the Behind The Dream events this month I realized this is a perfect opportunity to shine some light on an awesome local business. Here's my experience with The Body Shop: I have been there one time. I have never participated in a group class or paid for a private trainer. I workout religiously next door, I have been going there for long enough I'd have a damn master's degree. People have come and gone from this space, and other than the occasional parking issue, I've never really gave it much mind. Despite that I know one thing for a fact from my one experience: It's a five star place, with five star staff. Why? Because then two weeks ago the power was out at my gym and I knocked on the door for The Body Shop at 630am, in the cold and rain, and asked if I could START my workout there. It wasn't even an issue, instantly Jeff said "Sure come on in" and gave me whatever space I needed, even pulled out a jump rope for me to warm up (I had my own) and asked if I needed anything. I was content to sit in my corner and go try the gym door every now and then, he instead offered me full use to actually workout with whatever/however I needed, he'd be there until 9. Honestly, I'm a bit of a jerk and just went ahead and took him up on it and made myself at home. I started with warm up deadlifts and then went to the squat rack, as Jeff worked with a small group of ladies getting a tough early morning session in. Here's where it gets dope: The dude saw my squat form (poor), and offered me some help. Now he didn't walk over and say "STOP WHAT YOURE DOING LET ME SAVE YOU", he approached me as someone that knows his stuff, to help someone that didn't, without an ego or attitude. He then, while still running the class and making sure everyone was getting the workout they needed and paid for, proceeded to breakdown my squat form, help me improve it, and give me one on one coaching/training to continue to fix it. I finished my workout there, having been there for a few hours at that point, and he (and the other trainer that came in, who I never met), was nothing but courteous and polite the whole time. I want to reiterate this: I never gave this shop anything but the wonderful grace of my presence (not worth a whole lot I assure you), and Jeff went out of his way multiple times to take care of me and help me out. I came back a few days later to reiterate my thanks and he looked at me, slightly befuddled, and said "it's really not a big deal man." I still find it damn cool of him, and am still working to un-screw my squat form now. I can't tell you if the classes are amazing, I can tell you they have great space, they have insulated the hell out of it compared to when we were in there, and they have all the knowledge and expertise you could want in a gym. But more importantly they have the right attitude. I hope Jeff and his team nothing but success in this location, and anywhere else they may end up (because they're seriously going to outgrow this spot soon as people check it out), because they deserve it.
