Actually I'm not that impressed, I read a number of positive reviews about how good the food was, perhaps part of the reason why I was very disappointed in my clearly under cooked roast beef, we were at a fundraiser and the Irish auctioneer went on far too long and the service was really screwed up and delayed... So much that the live auction delayed the serving of the actual entrées until 10:15 PM. Usually I'm in bed by 10:15 PM I certainly don't want to be starting eating at that time. The rest of the room felt the same as me, we were all starving... By the time the roast beef finally arrived I think they purposely under cooked it and then were hoping that it would cook a little bit on the plate while the auctioneer was still talking and it should arrive medium rare... or medium.......Mine was still rare and very very bloody - personally I like bloody roast beef but not this bloody. I like medium rare NOT rare. Plus another disgusting thing was it was covered in gravy that had coagulated in all the corners of the plate.,,,,,, clearly it had either been sitting under hot plates for a very long time or microwaved. Gross. I couldn't choke down half of it. Another logistical nightmare was even though we were about 250 clearly upscale over the top well-dressed diners for a very expensive fundraiser, for some reason when we arrived and sat down at all or tables there was only one Sommelier serving wine. Literally one person trying to fill 250 glasses. It took over 70 minutes before I had anything my glass, that's a long time to sit and chat with strangers while waiting for a drink at a winetasting dinner. The fundraiser for was for the Philharmonic. I don't know if this is how it goes every year but hopefully next year I can be a little better organized and god forbid hire more than one person to pour wine - it's not that complicated..... The other strange thing was the fact that it was totally over staffed... There must've been about 20 people in uniforms wandering around looking at our tables. I don't know what they were looking for because clearly there were no plates to be cleared away because no food has been served yet, in fact nothing had been served yet, and each person I asked if they were going to be serving any drinks they would just point at the one guy wandering around and saying yes it's being served. Clearly it's not being Served quickly enough. This building is very old-school, heavy furniture, very old-fashioned Republican and sexist. Some of the artwork looks like original group of seven, Fred Varley I believe, I took some pictures in case anybody is an expert if they want to tell me their opinion? Also I find it very strange they couldn't afford to hire a coat check girl. The coat check is just serve yourself. I'm surprised that invites left as I saw some very expensive fur coats in there. Why would you trust a $20000 fur coat to not get stolen????? PS If you are looking for a restaurant locally; Whatever you do, NEVER go to the Calgary restaurant The Guild. The insane manager literally called the police and tried to put me "under citizens arrest" for accidentally knocking over a glass of wine- see my full review here https://www.yelp.ca/biz/the-guild-calgary read more
