I came here to exchange some currency for international travel. The markup was about 1.3% (excluding their $3.50 flat fee), which is pretty good compared to other options (banks, airport, etc). Payment can be made in cash or debit. Service was very fast because there was no one else here and the person behind the counter was extremely fast at counting cash. They have a policy where if your transaction is $1000 CAD or more, you can return the unused portion of foreign currency and convert it back into CAD at the same rate if you bring back the receipt. The exchange has to occur within 30 days of the original transaction and you can only return up to 50% of the currency that you purchased. There is no service fee on returns. read more

Probably the best Forex place in downtown Toronto. On a day when USD/CAD was listed at 1.2867 they quoted 1.28 while College Currency Investments quoted 1.27 and Goldium was quoting 1.275. Even with the flat $3.75 fee that Calforex charges, still by far the best rate, especially if you are exchanging a large amount. Quick and easy. Any Canadian Citizen who has funds trapped in Canadian Currency, and has changed their residency to the U.S., should be forewarned not to attempt to work with Calforex to set up a currency exchange from Canadian to U.S. currency. They will find it a long a frustrating experience, leading to countless requests for information, and then more requests, and find themselves inevitably in a position where they simply will not get a positive response. After 10 days of this back and forth merry go round with Calforex, I was able to secure an account with Knightsbridgefx, also based in Toronto in 48 hours. read more

In and out in less than three minutes. I went to exchange about US$750 to Canadian dollars. XE.com had listed the exchange rate to be so that I will get about C$1015 back. When all was said and done my 750 became about $1000 even in Canadian. The attendant had already taken any fees out of the money that I received. She was very nice and smiled, and counted the money in front of me. All the bills I received were in 20s and 50s, and appeared to be in good condition. I came here due to the good yelp review and their attractive buyback program. You can sell back half of what you exchanged for the same rate no fees if you return in a month. So I came back to exchange some USD through the buyback program. They did not take my $50 American bills without the red wave, which I got from the bank. Note: they do not accept old bills here. The reason for the low rating is their terrible exchange rate. Being inexperienced I actually took their rate. April 19th 2012 ~7:10PM 0.99535 XE rate 0.9954 Yahoo rate (9,954CAD = 10,0000USD) 1.0075 Calforex rate (10,075CAD = 10,000USD) Note you can get a better rate if you bring in a bank draft before 3PM is what I was told. I haven't ever used a currency exchange. When I've gone to the US or Europe, I just got cash from an ATM (which I'm one learning may not be the best!). I needed Peruvian currency and after doing some research, I headed down to Calforex to see if they had any in stock and if not maybe they could order it. Turns out they had it and the rate was reasonable and I was able to choose my denominations which was an added bonus as I was worried I would only be able to get big bills (they have trouble making change in Peru according to the internet) My transaction was quick and professional. Location is easy to find. I went to buy Euro and GBP. I have called many places at downtown and their prices were the lowest. They do take cards so no need to take cash with you (I was stupid, took big amount of cash with me). They gave me mixed bills. Great place for currency exchange. Just needed to change USD$200 into Canadian to be a tourist. They quoted the same exchange rate Google was showing me, and simply charged a flat 3.50 fee. No other fees or %'s. Friendly person behind the counter gave me whatever denominations I wanted. Very quick transaction, friendly person behind the counter, and easy to walk to if you're in downtown Toronto (or the 501 Streetcar that goes along Queen St gets you close). This is the worst business I have seen. The lady supervisor was yelling at me for 20 minutes and I could stop her. I tried to calm her down but she never stopped. I was asking a small question and her yelling was started. Never seen this before. finished the transaction because rate is good. Absolutely won't come back again. No one should treat customer like this. Her name is tammy. I already gave her my bank draft payable to her company and she is yelling "go somewhere else". I should have recorded her voice. I have her signature and receipt to prove what had happened. If she is not fired, I will never ever go there again. read more

Robin D apparently doesn't know how exchange rates work. I just changed some money.. here are the rates I got: $400 CAD = 252 GBP According to XE.com, 252 GBP = 396.18 CAD (0.955% markup) $400 CAD = 315 EUR According to XE.com, 315 EUR = 397.42 CAD (0.645% markup) Compared to TD where I changed $200 CAD into ISK and got 22,500 ISK According to XE.com, 22,500 ISK = $179.79 CAD (10.10% markup) Calforex has a 3.50 fee per transaction, meaning I paid $803.50 and in return I got $793.60 after their commission (aka it cost me $9.90 or 1.23% of the total). Excellent value every time and almost 1/10th the cost of TD. Please Calforex, start carrying ISK! The bank rates suck! read more

Called in the day before to ask about the exchange rate for krona and to confirm what time they close. They said that regular time is 7 pm but because it is year end, they close at 5 pm today. I finish off work today at 4 30 pm and I called them again to ask if they would accept me if I arrive a few minutes before they close. They said they would and so I sped walk after work coming from queens park and university. Once I got there, they said that they couldn't do the exchange because it is year end and the currency isn't that well used (I guess) which I knew & I asked about. I'm upset that they couldn't have told me this before when I called earlier. read more

Not the best exchange rate. This place is for the person that leaves everything to the last minute. You'll get hit with a flat fee as well.

Great exchange rate and super fast! Parking was a little iffy especially since the street is so busy but I managed to park in the nearby lot and a kind person gave me their parking stub with 1 hour of time remaining. Their service is great and its easy to get in and out within 10 minutes. Great experience overall! I will be back again next time for my currency exchange needs. read more

Exchanged CAD to EUR. Service fee of $3.75. Markup of around 1.9%. Excellent service. Went in on a Sunday shortly after opening and there was no one there. Service was fast; it took less than a minute. There is a parking lot around the area but if you get there without driving or can be dropped off, that would be ideal. I used to buy foreign currency from Vancouver Bullion in Richmond, BC, but recently extremely long lines and inconvenient hours (they open till 5 pm only) made me look somewhere else, and I started using Calforex in Richmond Centre, Experience was very good every time - waiting time is minimal, polite and professional service. The rate for USD (including their flat fee) was the same as VBCE, and for Russian Rubles - even much better. So, I guess, VBCE may forget about me, I go to Calforex for all my currencies purchases now. read more

Great deal, prompt and professional service! I've been monitoring some of the FX places in town, and this one has the best rates. I bought 2500 Euro for 3717 CAD. I bought Euro for 1.485 CAD, which is only a 1% markup on the currency market rate of 1.471. Add in the low $3.50 transaction fee, the total cost is 1.1% Compared to foreign currency transaction charges for ATMs and Credit Cards of 2.5%, this is a bargain. The only better way to go is Credit Card with no foreign currency transaction fees, but those have annual fees. read more
