I had to put our old, old Siamese cat down. He was about 18 years old, blind, and incontinent. I nursed him along for over a year before we made the hard call.
I took him to Caldwell Vet, and they were so sweet. I had a moment in the lobby where I sobbed out loud, and they were so understanding and kind, and took me and Louie (the cat) though the whole thing slowly and thoughtfully. I cried throughout the entire ordeal, and the vet techs were so kind.
They offered me Louie's footprint in clay (I didn't even know there was such a thing!) and I gratefully accepted. We buried Louie under our chicken coop.
I had to go through the whole thing "alone", because chef was out of town. The techs at Caldwell Vet made me feel like family was looking out for me and my animals, like they always do. I can't recommend them enough.
(Later that day, the truck broke down and I spent hours in a Walmart parking lot with the dogs, waiting for a tow truck. Then, our AC went out in the farmhouse. It was 106 that day. Then, my dogs were stalking a copperhead snake, and I had to kill it with a shovel. It was a horrible, horrible day. The one bright spot was the attention me and my old cat were paid at the vet's office. That's kind of horrible itself.) read more
