I have been studying in the 600-hour massage program at Calcopa Massage School for a little over four months now, and I honestly couldn't ask for a better school. The school is relatively small, but it's very well organized. The smaller class sizes allow instructors to give each student the attention they need, which makes a huge difference in learning. One of the things I appreciate most is the environment created by the owners and instructors. While they provide excellent structure and guidance, there's no sense of hierarchy here--they are approachable, supportive, and truly considerate of each student's individual situation. They always do their best to help you succeed, and because of this, the atmosphere among students feels like a family. The interactions are warm and encouraging, almost like being with siblings, and I genuinely enjoy coming to class every day. I originally chose Calcopa because they offer new full-time classes each month, which was very convenient for me since I didn't want to wait around for a new term to start. I'm not sure about the scheduling for part-time students, but I know the start dates are flexible as well. Overall, my experience here has been nothing but positive--filled with great learning, personal growth, and unexpected surprises. I attended this school back in 1987 and was able to make a living as a massage therapist for years. I went back for more hours in 2013 and the staff was helpful and encouraging the entire time. I attended this school back in 2012 and have been working independently now for over 10 years as a certified massage therapist. This is a no frills school, recognized by the state of California - meaning, once you pass all the tighter/stricter requirements of the school, you are automatically qualified to apply to the state for your official certification in massage therapy. There's no additional courses to be taken outside of what is necessary or useful for certification. Take 6 months and dedicate yourself and you'll be on your way to a new and rewarding career - or maybe just additional income to be worked part time. If quality of course and teaching is what matters to you, then you'll find it here. If you're looking for the prestigious, modern day facility, you may not be comfortable. What you will get is solid teaching, a staff that will work with you to see you succeed, unlimited chances to get a passing grade, financial aid, job placement help, and stupidly reasonable tuition. Truth is if you are disciplined with your time, you could do this full time school in conjuction with a full time job. If nothing else, it's a great skill to have if you are someone good with his/her hands and enjoy helping others feel better. read more

She was amazing, delivering firm fluid strokes in my neck, shoulders, back, legs, arms fingers and I even had her provide a cranial massage to support my brain health. I am blown away. Grateful. The staff is very professional and the massage was great. I am very picky and Tracy was very thorough with just enough pressure...I even got goosebumps multiple times which rarely happens. It was also very relaxing! I would highly recommend. I think they might be moving to a nicer facility soon. That's the only thing that made this visit markedly distinguishable from a day spa massage. They get pretty booked out and have very limited clinic hours. The only other negative was the lighting in the room was a little bright for my preference but like I said I'm very particular. CALCOPA gave me so much more than just an education.... I had already been nationally certified in 2002 but was unable to segue into massage during this time and my certification lapsed. So upon making the decision to change careers in my 50's, and in looking for my '2nd round' of education, it was important to find a school that not only supported my goals, but also fit my personality. In seeking to find this, I came upon CALCOPA. It started w/ a phone call and speaking w/ Sally, who definitely gave me great info and invited me to come and see the school. I met w/ Michelle and explained to her my situation, former schooling, etc...and she was extremely accommodating and had the same vision for myself that I did. I enrolled in their programs in Sept 2014 - Dec 2014, tested out of an additional class, did as many clinics that I could, all in order to finish before the new year. There were many days that I was overwhelmed w/ the curriculum, tests, deadlines, but Michelle & Emily always put things into perspective and guided us through it all. These 2 inspirational leaders never let us fail, and for that, I am extremely grateful. Great Continuing Education Classes! I am a massage therapist and was looking for some good CE classes that were not too long and expensive. After some research, I found CalCopa which offers wide variety of NCBTMB approved CE classes. The school is very welcoming with good instructors. I've already taken a few classes and am planning to take more in the future. I had previously attended another massage school in San Diego and had a wonderful learning experience while I was there, so after a couple of moves I was happy to find out about this school. I have mostly worked with Michelle, and she has always been very kind and accommodating. I am impressed that they welcomed me and didn't really penalize me with extra fees or strip me of credits I had worked hard on at my other school. This is most certainly a school that models the integrity taught to the students. Something else that impresses me about this school is that it is a humble little place. The owners haven't over-extended themselves financially and provide a very basic place (read: tiny and older) to learn while still providing the students with an excellent education. A huge facility in a swanky location as provided by some of the bigger schools is nice-, but I would most certainly pass that up to grow and learn with CalCopa. I plan to continue taking the last couple of classes I need before I start work as a therapist and I would recommend the school to someone serious about their future as a massage therapist. read more
