Blackened Chicken Cesar salad
Eronini D.

I ordered a blackened chicken Cesar salad. I really enjoyed it. FYI, the blackened chicken is spicy so if not into spicy, I probably wouldn't recommend it. I'll definitely order from them again.

Calabria Mia is located in downtown Somerville along the busy West Main Street. They have a warm, romantically lit dining area in addition to a comfortable outdoor dining area if you'd like some fresh air. I tried a slice of plain and a margherita slice. The plain had a crisp base, lots of cheese, and a plain, unremarkable sauce. The margherita was a bit better in the sauce department and featured fresh, juicy, flavorful tomatoes. The crust was fluffy and the base was pleasantly crisp. Overall, this is a decent spot.

Raw Plain Pizza

Raw pizza with cheese and grease everywhere. Who looked at this and thought it was acceptable for delivery? Also, they forgot my calzone. Ruined my lunch!

Sicilian slice
Lou C.

Was hesitant to try this (after walking by at least 100 times over the past couple years) given the lukewarm reviews but it was pretty good. If you're a thin-crust person, you may not enjoy the pizza, as it's a little thicker and more "tooth" to it. The Sicilian was really nice, a not-too-thick crust and crispy on the bottom. Cheese and sauce were very good. These were from slice pies, which were fresh, but it was early in the lunch rush. All in all, a good experience and will return.

Undercooked bacon

My family used to frequent Calabria Mia because the food was cheap and the chicken was flavorful. However the people who work here are mean, pretend they don't speak and understand English, and talk smack very obviously about the customers while the customer's are still there! They watch soccer matches loudly instead of catering to the customer's coming in. In the last year, they've doubled their prices, the quality has gone down, they've gotten rid of their deals, and they're still talking down to and about their customers in front of them. It's time we severed our relationship, Mia. *The food comes out cold. The pizza is inconsistent; it is oftentimes undercooked and the quality of the ingredients are lacking. The chicken in the salad is sometimes hot, and sometimes cold. Very inconsistent quality of food.

So far have just had their pizza but that's been consistently excellent. Workers are always friendly from my experience.

Prima Pizza Kitchen - One slice of Champlain, one slice of Drunken Grandma

As it…read morewas my first time visiting and wanted some variety, I ordered their garlic knots, the standard plain cheese slice, and the drunken grandma slice. The garlic knots (3/5) were just ok, on par with the New Jersey average, and a bit dry on the inside (I prefer them a little more saturated in oil). They asked if we wanted marinara sauce, but it was subject to an upcharge, where we probably would have declined had we been informed about the extra charge for it (most places I'm accustomed to provide a side sauce upon request complimentary). We ordered ahead for a large cheese pizza (3.5/5) so that we could eat it freshly prepared out of the oven. The standard cheese slice was a small notch above what you'd expect from a typical NJ pizzeria, but neither the sauce, cheese, nor crust stood out. We also got a drunken grandma slice (4/5) which was the winner of the meal with the unique flair of the vodka sauce with cheese on a thinner square base. Overall, I'd rate Prima Pizza Kitchen a 3.5/5 in the very competitive NJ pizza market, and am happy to round up since Yelp doesn't allow half stars and the service was friendly. While I probably wouldn't venture out of my way to eat here again, it's a decent local pizzeria option for those in the Somerville/Bridgewater area.

Because of all the reviews saying how popular it is, I made sure to get there early. I parked on the street around 3:50pm (heads up, there isn't much street parking) and I was first in line for the 4pm opening on a Tuesday afternoon. A few other people quickly lined up behind me before the doors opened, so I'd definitely recommend getting there early! I ordered "the works" and it only took 15 minutes to get my pizza. It's a small, chill place with maybe 10-15 tables max. When you eat in, you order, grab whatever sodas you want, and then pay at the end. I've also gotten it to go a couple of times (it took soooo long for someone to pick up the phone) and I have to say it tastes so much better in person. The crust is much crispier when it comes fresh out of the oven, so dine in if you can! I'm going to be missing NJ pizza when I go back to California!

I waited for the hype to die down before coming in. This is what I found. Saturday at open, there were about ten groups ahead of me and the wait wasn't bad at all. I felt good about the experience early on. Street parking and was able to find a spot. One pet peeve: list your prices. I don't like guessing what I'm about to pay. It came out to around $19 for a large cheese, which is honestly not bad. The young lady who took my order was personable, and I was able to grab a seat inside -- they have outdoor tables as well. The pie came out and at first glance the crust is crispy with an orange glow to it. Unfortunately, I've had better tasting pizza. Someone nearby made a comment about the dough being like a cracker, and I have to agree -- it read more like cardboard to me. I ended up using the garlic salt, grated cheese and oregano from the table just to recover some flavor. The leftovers were even worse. A few odds and ends: the pizza makers all look pretty serious, maybe even miserable. That may just be the heat back there. They also sell individual frozen pies to take home, and they accept cash or card. It wasn't a total waste of time, but it's not going on my list of all-time greats. One and done for me -- I wouldn't travel an hour or more to come back. Sorry guys, I wanted this to be epic and it just wasn't.

Parking is in the back in the ShopRite lot, or you can try to park on the street. Somerville has become quite a foodie town, and street parking can be difficult to find. We had a party of five and were seated promptly at a round table, which was nice. We could all chat and see each other. Our server was friendly and professional and answered all our questions about the food. The meals were entree-sized instead of lunch-sized. Alfonso's doesn't allow lunch portions on Sundays. To start, we were given a family-style salad. It was mediocre at best. Boring. Mostly iceberg lettuce, no tomatoes, red onion on top, carrots, and cucumber. The complimentary bread was good, but it wasn't Italian. We were given another basket after we finished the first one. The butter was in those little plastic containers. Nothing fancy. Our entrees were: Dinner Giambotta (mild): Italian sausage, peppers, onions, potatoes, garlic, white balsamic parmesan sauce. Shrimp and Scallop Scampi Scallops & Shrimp Al Limone: Imported Roman artichoke hearts, roasted peppers, and green olives in a lemon butter white wine sauce. Cheese Tortellini Al Forno: Rose sauce, parmesan, fresh mozzarella. Eggplant Rollatini. My daughter had a Mediterranean Mule, which consisted of Figenza fig vodka, ginger beer, & lime juice. She enjoyed it! We all enjoyed our fairly large entrees, and most of us took some home. I would recommend Alfonso's. I've been here before and enjoyed it as well.

The service is quick too, I felt like our food came out quickly for the size of our group. One thing to note is that this restaurant is BYOB. The food - it was okay. The eggplant rolatini was fine, although I think the eggplant was sliced a little thick for the dish. The lobster ravioli sauce was good, but the ravioli itself was extremely thick (the pasta part). It felt like more ravioli than lobster. I was really excited about the tri color pizza, it sounds so yummy with all the sauces! I was disappointed to see that the stripes however are all of the 3 sauces you get. So I felt it really lacked in sauce. What I think should have been done, is thick stripes of the sauce, cheese on top, and then the stripes for the plating. My sister got the pesto pizza and the also complained that there was a lack of sauce. Overall, I think this restaurant is okay.
