I was first contacted by Dan, whom I believe is the owner. I spoke to him and his son, Tyler, about our side gate that we wanted to have motorized so we could use the clicker to get in and out of. I was a bit skeptical at first since I was communicating only through text/email/phone/photos, but they definitely ended up delivering on their quote, exactly as promised. Tyler showed up with his crew on the day that they said they would, and they finished the job on time. From start to finish, I would say everything took about 3 full weeks. That is from my first initial phone call to the company to when the gate project was completed. They did have a cancellation and asked if I would like to be squeezed into their schedule. Strange that I've had to update this review twice, but I had Cal Sierra back for more work and installation of a new operator plus moving the old one. The work was good but a year later when I had an issue, their response was that they don't do service work. I'm sorry but if you install it, you should service it. Or have someone you can contract to for the service. I wasn't asking for free service but still I couldn't get anyone to come look at it. Fence installed in May; two sections failed that Winter. They did come back and pour more cement in one of the post holes. Next Winter, six sections of the fence failed i.e. blown over by the wind and they would not come back. I was told by a legitimate fence company it was because the fence posts installed were too short for the fence and not enough concrete. Would not stand behind their work. Upon inspection, I found a lot wrong. See photos. They didn't trench 4 inches down the last 11 feet so the new fence is above the back fence it attaches to. (By the time I saw what was happening they were 80% done with the fence.) That also led to them not sinking one post completely so now the metal post that should be hidden is visible. And it means the entire fence is well above the rest of the ground level so now I have to put in a kickboard to make sure my dogs don't dig under to get to the neighbor's chickens. There is a dog-ear that overlaps the one next to it (see the photo with my finger in it) and it doesn't have any nails in the bottom. It's not straight. read more

First of all, Dan was responsive to our questions & concerns right from the beginning. Our project started earlier than expected. Team Seth replaced a neighbor/shared fence & my gate/side panels. They were efficient & very flexible handling several last minute adjustments to the project. Austin & his crew were friendly, hardworking & did a great job cleaning up after the job was completed. Run. Run as far away from this company as you can. If that is not enough to deter you, let me count down the ways this horrible company fails in every area of importance. I'll focus on 1. Price, 2. Quality of Work, and 3. Integrity and Customer Service. Price: - added on $907 for jackhammering AFTER the work was done. That is 7 hours of jackhammering. they jackhammered less than 3 hours. No Change Order was done to approve work -charged over $600 for gravel backfill. So a $450 markup on supply/delivery -charged $500 to "dig out" 2 rows of pavers but no dig out occurred. The crew ripped out the wall so all the pavers and land fell into the neighbors yard (which they didn't clean up) and they didn't haul off the pavers as promised Quality of Work: -employees appear to have no training in walls or fences. Rush jobs -retaining walls do not have to "retain". When they knocked out concrete between 2 posts they did not fill the gap with wood or concrete, just laid the wall boards and did the backfill. A 6 inch gap under wall. We are having to pay another contractor to fix this now. -you get different crew on different days. The boss constantly pulls your crew off to another in even in the middle of the day -a 2nd crew had to redo most of the wall because it wasn't done right initially. -gate was installed backwards and not to specifications. They actually had our gate open outward away from the house, which meant the gate opened into the jagged bricks and gutter not the concrete path. -the boards of the gate were cut at uneven lengths. -the hook and latch were put on the outside of the gate (in the front yard) instead of the back so you couldn't see the latch when locking it and you had to lock the handle side not the latch side. -the latch broke off the first day because the wrong screws were used. -the stupid invention they have of a bar across the fence under the hinge serves zero purpose but serves even less since they installed the bar inside and the latch outside. -they took bricks from our yard and moved them behind the fence before closing in the fence so they are forever between the fences. -the corner of the fence between the back and front yard was left naked without a board to cover the surepost -lowered a section on fence left it too low -wall towards sidewalk was supposed to be tapered but they just left it short with 1 board and were not able to fix it with the taper requested. Had to pay another contractor to add the tapered wall. Integrity and Customer Service: -the job was delayed twice, then a no show in the middle, and showing up without an appointment another day -the manager is a bully and a liar, and the owner is a liar. -the manager and owner were unable to justify any of the questionable charges. They did not respond at all to the rock overcharge and overestimate. -owner promised verbally to remove the $500 paver charge and some of the jackhammer charge. Came back with only $100 off pavers and $100 off the jackhammering. -took an entire day back and forth to remove $300 off pavers and $150 off jackhammering. Mind you, they claim to have jackhammered 11 hours (not the 7 billed) to remove 4 fence posts and 8 small, shallow posts along the old retaining wall. The fence posts came out whole with concrete still attached (as photos prove) so they claim to have spent over an hour on every single post. -one version of their "adjustment" including them first INFLATING the non-paver charge on the line item before applying the discount leading to less of a discount than promised. -manager attempted to bully me and my daughter multiple times including: --threatening that he records all calls. -bombarded with calls to confirm an appointment never made and harassed me --bullied my daughter trying to insist job be completed that day despite not allowing us time to decide how to handle wall gap. -manager stated wall gap of 6inches is normal and met standards, demanded we put in writing how they should fix it with no promise it would work, and they would charge us for digging out the backfill -one employee sent to our house had major rage issues --when he was forced to fix the gate to specifications, he went into a pure rage refusing to do the job as requested, throwing and yelling and cussing, and walked out on the job saying he was quitting. I almost called the cops because I could hear him yelling and cussing from inside. Neighbors heard it down the street. continued to kick and throw things through the entire gate replacement including cussing constantly and making rude comments -when the rage guy put the fence section that connected to gate back up, he lowered it for no reason so it was shorter than gate and rest of the fence -manager came to collect final payment and did not bring someone to raise short fence as requested so we had to get tool and do it ourselves. -manager said he'd get back to me how he handled rage employee incident but it's been a week and no response. read more

Met with Kevin promptly after reaching out to him via Yelp. He scheduled our install date then had to push it back two times for a total two week delay. Once the two man crew was there they were able to complete the 62' of fence in a day which was great. My surprise was the fact there was no follow up call or inspection for quality. Had they done this I would have had the opportunity to point out a very crooked board on one of the most visible section of fence. I had asked for an arched gate, which they did but the bottom is uneven (Imagine jagged teeth). Lastly, they left the plastic tags on the bottom of each board. I guess my wife and I will be pulling over a hundred tags off one by one. I feel like all of this could have been corrected with a simple follow up call after the work was finished. Take the pickiest customer you have ever dealt with, and multiply it by 10--that's me!! I requested bids from 4 fencing places. I only got back two bids. Dan was responsive and willing to assist me in all of my concerns and requirements. He didn't try to upsell, I knew exactly what I wanted. The "other guys" were more than double the price he quoted, and acted put upon that I would even call them in the first place. When the day came to install the fencing and there was a slight delay in the crew, Robert and Jose arriving. Dan was immediately in touch with me to let me know and assured me they were on their way. Nothing worse than waiting around thinking you have been stood up! Through no fault on their part, they had to go to So. Sacramento to pick up the panels that weren't delivered. Robert and Jose arrived and immediately began working. They were professional and answered all my questions throughout the day. Robert conferred with me on how I wanted the fence installed. I relied on him and his expertise as to what he recommended and I am certainly glad I followed his advice. Update: I took Dan, owner of Cal Sierra Fence, as well as my neighbor to court to sue them over the horrible fence...AND I WON!!! I have court documentation to show that the judge ordered in my favor. The judge saw pictures of Cal Sierra Fence's work and literally said to Dan "I would throw gasoline on that fence and burn it down if that was my yard!" and "I would take a chainsaw to that fence". Since this was in Small Claims court in Placer County, I would assume it is public record of what is said in the courtroom, I invite anyone to review for themselves. I didn't have to fight for the fence to be fixed, the judge was able to come to the conclusion without much input from me other than the pictures and documentation I provided. Not only did I win but I was awarded the replacement cost of a new fence. The judge asked if I was willing to allow Cal Sierra Fence to come back and fix the fence...unfortunately due to my experience thus far I declined that offer and instead took the money awarded to me and hired another company who came in and fixed the fence right and did a beautiful job. Since then, I have received incredibly rude "anonymous" emails in retaliation for me suing as well as the well deserved poor review on Yelp. I always consult Yelp when contemplating projects like a new fence. After reading the reviews for Cal-Sierra, I noticed that there were several extremely questionable reviews with one star ratings. These were not really reviews but intentional malicious slurs. The one with the photo of the "horrible fence" was a real joke - that was a great looking fence! So I had them quote me on a 159' wrought iron fence. After 2 emails and a 10 minute visit by Dan, we were good to go. They had a last minute cancellation and asked if we would like to get on the schedule for the next day!!! Wow, sure, we scheduled it. The plan was to set the posts in concrete one day and install the panels the next. Miguel and his sidekick showed up right on time, I spend 5 minutes showing them what we wanted, and they got to work. 2.5 hours later there were 20 posts neatly installed. The next day they welded the panels in place. I wish I could weld that well. I watched them do several very clever tricks that made for an exceptionally clean and professional result. 6.5 hours later all panels and two gates were in place. These guys were poetry in motion. She did a great job and listed each side of they yard for fence repair to the corresponding good neighbor fence for a clear cost for each neighbor.
