Always comin here for fresh chicken. The best! Smell is a bit off putting but it is a butcher shop and process tons of chickens. That's how you know it's fresh. Quick and easy get in line, order, and the have the chicken ready for you. Pro tip make sure to ask them for a larger one if you're buying the yellow fur chicken as you are paying per chicken. It will vary day to day but today the chicken was huge!!!! They have promotions regularly so stop by and check them out. I will keep posting promotions on Yelp every time I stop by! They accept card, cash, Apple Pay, and EBT. They also provide bags. Very reliable and fresh every time. You can see them processing chicken in the back. Parki my lot is small and a bit hectic right on Garvey next to some major cafes, shops, and restaurants. read more

CAL Poultry - Prices summer 2025 - Butcher Near Me - Rosemead, California

Very busy poultry market for a variety of chickens and ducks. Prices are reasonable and the products are all very fresh. If the sign says sold out, it does not hurt to ask again at the register because there may be times where they are just low on certain birds. Gets very busy especially during holidays. They accept cash and Visa, Amex, Mastercard, and Discover cards. The parking here is limited so many people also choose to park on the street. read more

This place is a scam they will lie to their customer and not give what the customer pays for. I Purchased two chickens today. I was missing half a chicken. For two chicken we only got 2 thighs, 2 chicken feet when we are supposed to get four. There is more. Just horrible that this store would do such a thing. read more

CAL Poultry - This place is a scam they will lie to their customer and not give what the customer pays for. - Butcher Near Me - Rosemead, California

This establishment specializes in chicken. Once you try their chicken, you won't want to go back to supermarket frozen chicken or pre-cut pieces. My mother has been bringing me here since I was very young. Now, many years later, I visit this place for whole chickens and chicken wings. The flavor is consistently fresh. As with any poultry shop, the aroma is distinctly of chicken. Look beyond the smell, and you'll discover a straightforward source of fresh poultry. They accept card payments, which is convenient! Moreover, they also speak English, Cantonese and Mandarin so feel free to visit without any hesitations. It's reasonably priced since it's not cut up chicken pieces. Previously people tried to boycott this place and force it to close down. I'm glad that didn't happen. This place is a gem! read more

Be Careful of this Cheating Place!!! I have purchased one brown chicken today, when I got home open the bag, I have found two thighs and two top part of wings were missing, and the meat is very firm, soup taste is so light, does not like fresh chicken. If you really like this place, should not ask them to cut the chicken for you, always cut it by yourself. Will never go back again. read more

Serious quality issue .. Will never step in to this shop again . This shop doesn't show the chicken upfront . You have to pick a bag that is already packed and you can't clearly see the contents of the bag when you buy . Bought 3 lb of chicken came home and saw worms all over while cleaning. I have to completely throw out the contents read more

Best chicken quality but a little pricey. That is okay for quality fresh food. I would recommend this.

If you need fresh whole chicken and duck, this is the place! I was looking for a whole chicken that still has innards for praying. I got a brown chicken. It was so fresh and the price is good. They have a lot of different types for you to choose. They also sell products for praying too. read more

Nice fresh poultry. 1000 times better than the stuff in the plastic packaging from supermarkets.

C.A.L. Poultry (Chinese American Live Poultry) sells vikon chicken along with different types of fowl (duck, geese, etc etc). They fresh kill their chickens daily at their plant in Rosemead. In fact, when you buy the chicken, it says that they haven't been chilled yet so you should chill it or freeze it as soon as possible. If you're looking for the tastiest chicken and chicken parts, you might want to check this place out. While you're there, check out the live seafood market across the street (the best and largest live seafood market in socal IMHO). To finish it off, try the sugar cane juice store just a block away. ------------------ What Does All Natural Vikon Mean? ~ Vikon's are cared for and grown with excellent management and humane practices. ~ They are fed an all-vegetable diet. They are never given antibiotics, hormones or any other growth stimulants. ~ There are no animal fats or animal by-products in their feed. ~ They are grown with lots of room, no crowding, a good ventilation and more than enough feeding with watering equipment. ~ They are grown slowly for 14 to 16 week period. Because of our Vikon's are disease resistant and healthy, medications are never needed. ~ We use processing procedures that differ from the usual with an important end result. When a Vikon is purchased, our customers are getting a bird that has approximately 5% or less retained water in the meat as compared with a white traditional broiler. http://www.vikonfarm.com/faq.html read more

Bought a yellow feather chicken and they gave me an old tough skinned and essentially meatless chicken。 Had better tasting chicken from 99 ranch for half the cost. read more

Efficient staff and great meat! Thanks for your service! I'm always here picking up great meat you can't get from your local markets.

We bought two brown/yellow feather chicken for $14 each. We noticed one is 3.3 lb and other is 2.2 lb after we got back home, that's a big difference with same price. Called to complained but they said we suppose to request to see and change it if we don't want it. They can't do anything. This is bad customer service! I would not go back again to this store. read more

CAL Poultry - a bunch of raw chicken on a counter - Butcher Near Me - Rosemead, California

I thought this place would be more bloody and have a strong animal odor like petting zoos. I was surprised by how clean it was and could say that petco/petsmart smells worst than this place. Paid less than $25 for two whole regular chickens that came out to about 12 pounds total. I used these chickens for yakitori skewers. Parking was ample and they are open on 4th if July until 3pm, but they typically close at 4pm. I was in and out within 5 minutes. read more

CAL (Chinese American Live) is home of Vikon chicken in Los Angeles. I mean, not literally, since the chickens are grown in Azusa... At the Rosemead location is the slaughter house and B&M retail store. It is the freshest place to get Vikon chicken. While the Westside folks have their precious (and seriously tasty) Jidori, those starting at 2% can easily afford the $2.50/lb price of fresh "walking", ie, free-range, Vikon chicken. Sales prices of Vikon at Ranch 99 or 168 may be cheaper ($1.99/pound), but you can specify if you want a large/small chicken, and the CAL folks will pick it out for you. Also, at the location, are various types of duck, goose, and quail, all available fresh, unfrozen. To the Jews (and Asian moms) reading: fresh chicken liver is available by the pound. 2 years ago, CAL Poultry was in danger of being shut down by the city due to odor: http://articles.latimes.com/2009/dec/29/local/la-me-outthere29-2009dec29 but apparently the Rosemead planning commission changed its mind. NB: chickens here are sold WHOLE, neck/head on, feet on. If you have problem butchering a chicken.... read a book, maybe "Ad Hoc" http://su.pr/2MRlGo read more

I lost a bet regarding the Ohio State v Oregon NCAA Championship game, so I had to cook Duck for my Buckeye friend (I might have secretly won, because my reward for a Ducks victory would have been Buckeye Stew: essentially chili and cheese on spaghetti. Yuch!). After a bit of research I ended up here, and was overjoyed at the find- the freshest smelling poultry place I've ever seen, they have as broad a collection of erstwhile feathery creatures as you could imagine- duck, quail, goose and, of course, Vikon chicken that puts those factory farmed yardbirds from Foster's to shame. On my top ten list of genuine "finds" in LA! read more

My husband has been buying chicken here after I had a baby. Just a couple of days ago he bought a chicken and some chicken wings. I looked the chicken wings and they were near bad already. They're so chewy and sticks to the teeth. While I was preparing them I already noticed they look gross. Then the chicken, there was white dots on the chicken, like those diseased animals. Gross! Won't be coming back here again. They probably give my husband the shitty ones because he looks young and look like he doesn't know anything. They do stuff like that. If they can't do honest business then they'll eventually go out of business. I'll definitely be getting my poultry elsewhere. read more

Went in to get a female chicken. Asked for a female chicken & got a really large male one. When I asked the guy he was like "o I'll get u a female one". Swapped it out and it was practically the same size. Either that is the biggest female chicken I ever seen or it's been genetically modified to get to that size. I would recommend other places to pick up chicken. read more

the stench that I so vividly recall from my childhood has markedly improved! Go for the yellow feather chicken. It's not the advertised "healthy" Viken chicken, but it has richer chicken flavor and even though its pretty lean, it's very tender! I like to just steam it with some ginger, cilantro, and garlic and the natural chicken flavors carry the dish very well. It's probably 2x the price of a whole chicken from Costco, but once you eat it, you'll understand why. It's FRESH, DELICIOUS, TENDER, yet LEAN at the same time! I was weirded out when I first tried to carve that chicken after steaming it because the breast bone is very narrow, and the anatomy in general is just very different from the cheapo chicken I used to (and never will again) get from Costco. read more

Fresh chicken, duck, eggs, and ginger. They even have fresh turkey for thanksgiving, starting on 11/20. Customer service is quick. You can be in and out in about 10 minutes. You can tell everything is fresh by the smell of poultry. Fyi-Ginger is sold by weight. read more

First time here. Nice little place. You can see live poultry on the left when you walk in. Fresh chicken. Bought two for a decent price. Recommend if you want fresh chicken. I used to make my way out to Chinatown for chicken. When I learned of this place it was a godsend. Fresh chicken in the San Gabriel valley? I'm in! Whether you want American style chicken (plump and juicy) or something more original (sinewy, but more flavorful), they have it all. Parking is meh with a few spots available in the lot, but you might be able to snag street parking. Cook the chicken in soup or some stir fry and you can easily taste the difference from what the local markets offer. read more

I came to this market around 450pm on Monday, the Asian lady at cashier said only yellow chicken available for $12.50, the chicken bone also available for around $5/ pack. Trusting this market as I occasionally came to make a purchase at this market previously without issue, so didn't check my purchases until get home. Gosh, she sold me a bag of pre-frozen chicken bones - not fresh, the bones still at frozen stages after a hr. arriving at home. The yellow chicken is so chewy, not tender at all, like chewing the geriatric chicken, not worth $12.50, no wonder the cashier lady was so happy to smile during my payment. Not sure if the owner or management change, but will spread my experiences to warn customers before thinking any possible purchase there, it is a so called rip-off. Business based on trust, now she lost our trust and business. Greedy screws up business, lady! read more

My family usually buy chicken from there place, usually my parents go to get it, but few time I come to store and get it. I saw few chickens on the left side of the store. Does anybody pay attention on those chickens? It is just for display. I saw same chickens in few months. Do you think the chickens that we buy are fresh or frozen chickens? I think the chicken come from Tyson Foods, Inc.? They use a lot of Tyson Foods, Inc products. Which is the same as you buy from supermarket. Let think about this ways: 1) How many workers to kill and clean the chickens' does the store have? Just around 5 workers 2) How fast one worker can kill and clean one chicken? 3) How many people get in line to get it especially close to Chinese New year and weekend? 4) When we cook the chickens, chickens bones are red color, which mean the chickens have been in the freezer for while? If the chicken is fresh, when we cook, it does not take long to cook especially the bones are not in red color at after 30Min cook. 5) Do you think the chickens are fresh, which I don't think so? Hey chickens are come from Tyson Food Inc. (which kill, clean, freeze and ship to store) 6) They do not sell live chickens. what does there mean to you? The chickens that they have just for display only? Is it right? They just defreeze the chickens and sale to us? I think that place just for people who does not read English and for elderly. read more

The Go-to spot for FRESH POULTRY for the same prices you would pay at a grocery store! It stinks here but of course, that is to be expected!

This place is tremendous!!! Nothing more fresher!!! Chicken will never be the same for me. You want great quality tasting chicken... nothing better. If I lived locally... I would be there every week getting chicken. Fortunately, they supply Viet Wah Grocery stores!!!! From now on... Chicken is coming from there only in my household!!! =) read more

BE CAREFUL OF THIS PLACE!!! The chicken may be fresh but you may not get the whole thing. I just bought a brown chicken from there and asked them to cut it into small pieces for me. When I got home I found both middle wings and a drum stick missing (can't tell if any other pieces were missing also). The same thing happened to my wife a week ago when she bought a chicken from there and one wing turned up missing. When we called to complain, the guy answered the phone said the employee who cut the chicken "must have made a mistake." I guess we as customers have to piece together all the parts to make sure it is a whole chicken before we walk out of the door. read more
