My experience with this law firm was extremely disappointing I wish I had read the reviews before hiring them. In my experience, after taking a significant amount of money from us, there were long periods where we heard absolutely nothing about our case. Then, out of nowhere, we started receiving letters demanding even more money despite seeing little to no progress. It felt like we were constantly being pressured for additional payments instead of receiving the legal representation we expected. It is generally difficult to know how good or bad an attorney's office is before actually hiring and working with them. That's why many people might rely on reviews on the Web when they are making decisions. Based on stellar reviews on Google, I decided to work with Cal-Lawyer for our UD case in 2022. However, now after 8 months working with them, I feel like I wouldn't hire them again for several reasons. Those reasons are highlighted below. (1) Communication within their office - the person who pick up the phones and answer the call do not have any idea regarding my case. On top of that, no clear communication between the management attorney (Mr. Dan Tripathi) and other people in his office. This makes their clients call several times and wait for many days without getting any clear guidance and information. They even put the re-filing fee which was necessary due to their mistakes (error and typos in the legal document) to my invoice for payment. This example tells me that the internal communication between different parties within Cal-Lawyer office isn't quite optimal. (2) Simple error and typos in the legal documents - When I received a copy for one of the legal documents they filed for our case, I found several critical errors in the document. The document was already signed by the managing attorney (Mr. Dan Tripathi) and submitted to the court. I was able to locate that errors in a couple of minutes when I start reviewing the document. This indicates me two things - one, the office workers who drafted the document are not careful enough (or knowledgeable enough for my case), and two, the managing attorney did not have time to carefully review the entire document for its accuracy before putting his signature on it and file it to the court. (3) Professionalism - when it comes to professionalism, I feel it is important for the attorney's office to give an impression that they respects their clients' time. I did not really feel that from Cal-Lawyer. One time, I scheduled a call with the managing attorney (Mr. Dan Tripathi) for a certain time on a certain date, but I had to wait for 30 min without any call or notification from the attorney's office. I finally became frustrated, and decided to call the attorney's office, but the person who picked up the phone said that the attorney was with another clients now so they can reschedule my call with the attorney... I can understand they can get a bit behind of the schedule if something urgent comes up, but they still should understand that they would have been much more professional if they had a chance to call me and explained this delay around the appointment time. These are just a few examples. Overall quality of service and professionalism did not meet my standard. Not recommended. read more

If I could give ZERO stars, I would. I retained their services on 7/19/18. It's been 6 days and no answers to my questions, I asked these questions on Friday 7/20/18. , They took my money, now they ignore me. I've called them 3 times and each time I'm redirected to someone less important than the last. I've written at least 10 emails, all they give me is the "okie-doke". I emailed them on Monday 7/23/18 and told them my tenant didn't move and I'd like to get the UD done. Today is 7/26/18, NO PAPERWORK, NO ANSWERS. They can't even answer a simple question like "Can I revoke my roomers/tenants privileges? Without sending me 19 paragraphs in LEGALESE. It's a YES or NO question, Yes because ..... or No because..... You'd think they could manage that. I'll never use them again, BEWARE. UPDATE, after all my complaints, constant phone calls, emails and this review, they FINALLY answered, HALF my questions. INCOMPETENT and UNPROFESSIONAL. Their response; "If you have any further questions, Mr. Lares, please do not hesitate to contact our office and we will do our best to respond in a timely manner. For future reference, Mr. Lares, if I do not respond back right away to your inquires, it is most likely because I am inquiring with the attorney and that we are doing legal research before sending you responses." Cal-Lawyer, Mr. Tripathi, was recommended to me by a paralegal. A mistake. My probate needs took twice as long as they should have due to numerous, astounding office mistakes along the way, many of which I caught myself, not the staff. At the end they tried to charge me for time spent correcting their mistakes. I also did not trust that my case was being handled correctly nor was of any importance to them. I was expected to abide by the retainer contract but they did not. In over a year, I received only two sets of invoices, at my request, but no statements, which the contract said would be provided regularly. The invoices were sent without any explanation as to what payment was due, if any, until I asked. Those in training were not well supervised by the lawyer or others; reading and editing mistakes, asking for info they already had on hand, spelling errors, grammatical and capitalization errors. The firm just did not seem professionally run as I expected it would be. A very frustrating, stressful experience for me!!! read more

These people are in a nice building and he claims to be one of the 100 best attornys in CALIF. but i do not recommend them at all. The attorney who is the bussiness owner does not have a clue what the girls in the office are doing. They double billed me for an item of 6 hours on the 2nd page of the invoice and the same item on the 3rd page. When i confronted them she said maybe they worked 12 hours on it that day. So they rebilled me still keeping the same charges and changed one of the dates to read Wednesday May 14 with the original date is Wednesday May 13. I talked to 2 other lawyers and they asaid the itewm they were charging me for is usually about 5 hours charge. So after i no longer hired him the office kept sending me notices that they are taking me to court for the money. I was already stress from the case and now this so the date they claim if i did not pay came and went and i never heard back so they tried to bluff me into paying knowing they were wrong and as it is i still over paid 400 dollars and who knows how many people they do this to. I used Cal Lawyer for a simple will and am seriously astounded at their unprofessional conduct and unacceptable work product. The most shocking concern is that I walked into the office with my husband, met with Rose and another employee who witnessed our wills, and was never asked for identification. I told Rose that she didn't know us and we could have been anyone pretending to be us. Alternatively, I could have brought a random man with me to impersonate my husband and they would have witnessed wills which had specific distributions in place. She was very unconcerned and said something like, well let's hope it really is you. Yes, let's hope so, otherwise you just opened your firm up to potential serious liability. Furthermore, I understand that they're using a plug-in form, but I didn't expect them to use Quicken Forms which I could have downloaded for $189. (I was charged $650 and then an additional $150 to ask Mr. Tripathi about a clause that wasn't included in our wills although I requested it to be included in our initial consultation.) That being said, I at least expect people to proofread their work before sending it to the client. My wills were riddled with typos, grammatical errors, and inconsistencies, which took months to fix because no one ever proofread anything. There were extra words, missing words, wrong tenses, some words all in uppercase letters for no reason, no comma usage, etc. In addition, notes I put in the form addressed to the attorney were cut and pasted into the will, which made no sense and were clearly out of place. In the end, I just accepted the wills with the typos because no one at this firm was able to fix them. How many times can I ask for the same typos to be fixed? I'm in the process of having my wills re-done by a reputable firm. read more

This is a tough one to review. Some positives, some negatives to land them in the 2 to 3 star category. We had 2 consultations with them that we were not charged for but we were told that we would be speaking with the attorney both times and he was only present on the second consultation. The manager or main office guy, Doug? I think .... told us many things that ended up not being true and the attorney tried playing a lawyer game on us when we had too many questions that he apparently didn't have time for. It was an attempt to get us to sign a contract we were leery about and wanted clarification on. He needs to work on his game because it did not work and was pretty obvious. They did, however, give us a lot of paperwork and information free of charge. The information part you need to be careful of though because no one there was on the same page. If we had needed their service, we would of gone to someone else but thankfully the situation did not progress to an eviction. In the end though, we received enough information that I feel I can handle an eviction on my own next time if it ever comes to it so that was pretty much the only positive. Their willingness to give the appropriate paperwork and some you tube research, along with simply talking to the city will save you a thousand dollars, so that was well worth the aggravation of dealing with this office. read more
