Before I hired him he was rude to my mother who called for a consult as well. This was the worst referral my criminal attorney could have ever given me. During my $200 consult, he rushed me, was driving (but said he was taking notes), and said you have to have money and patience. Let me be perfectly clear, Christopher Abernathy is a horrible attorney. If you are considering him, do not, you will regret it. You will waste precious time that you don't have, you will waste money, your case will be WORSE off due to him either siding with opposing counsel, not having any idea what your case is about or who you are. And most importantly, you will lose your most precious treasure in life, your children. You need to take all the negative reviews very seriously, they are correct. They actually don't describe fully just how awful this attorney truly is. He is extremely disrespectful, never shuts his mouth except while in front of a judge, and literally yelled and berated my mother and I for asking questions immediately after my hearing on 5/8. I spoke to another attorney, he said well usually only rich people retain him. I sense this attorney's specialty is high asset divorce, nothing more. He knows he doesn't have to do much and he will get paid hopefully for years during those cases. If you have a complicated child custody case he will 100% lose your case and definitely not improve it. I had false domestic violence and child abuse allegations by the o.p in juvenile dependency, which gave final orders in family court. I had minimum of 2 hours a week supervised visits. chris had his horrible paralegal jerome mallard (no prior paralegal experience by the way) write my ex parte to return custody of my children, which chris didn't defend, and didn't know the details of, chris didn't read the declaration his paralegal wrote. That's how much he doesn't care. During the hearing the judge looked to chris to speak, and he didn't. The judge looked at him said the case name and ex parte by chris, and he still didn't speak. The judge then said, well.. this is your ex parte (waiting for him to speak). chris finally embarrassingly spoke, and said im not going to bore the court you have what we wrote. The judge asked why did the o.p terminate his paid supervisor? chris didn't answer and motioned as if he didn't know (letter from o.p attached to filing). I told chris I want more time, I can do 20 hours each weekend alone. abernathy ignored everything I told him. He said sorry judge I couldn't hear my client is talking to me. Now I am worse off than I was before hiring abernathy, which was at the beginning of April. He wasted the entire month of April supposedly working on my case (ex parte), delaying my case only to decrease my visitation hours on May 8. A whole month went by with me not being able to schedule a visit with my children. All jerome did was write a declaration (30 days?). The opposing party's attorney filed their response declaration in 1 day. He didn't say one word to go against the judge's suggestion of lesser visitation hours a month. The painful truth, I had sole physical custody all my children's lives and raised them, while their absent mother lived 500 miles away, had another child it abandoned, and kidnapped my children and made false cps & police reports to steal custody. Abernathy started shouting in the hallways right after court, everyone could hear him, he's an idiot. One admin worker told him to go somewhere else that she could hear him from very far away and he started arguing with her. I couldn't even get a full question in because he was constantly shouting in my face as if we were in the middle of a conversation but I had not even finished one question. The whole time I was trying to figure out what is wrong with him, such immature & bizarre behavior. I later realized he was trying to incite a negative reaction from me to claim conflict of interest and quit my case, because he doesn't want any case that is remotely difficult, he is lazy, just like the majority of attorneys. When he didn't get the reaction he needed from me to remove himself from my case he offered to refund my entire 10k retainer. I waited until today when his return-transfer to me finally cleared (3 days) to write his review. That's why he returned my entire retainer, in hopes I wouldn't write a review revealing how pathetic of an attorney he is and how his malpractice made my child custody case worse.
