The cafe is small and well served with a menu of homemade dishes (I like the Suffolk Steak Sandwich). There is usually also a good selection of veggie options. The menu is not huge, but does seem to offer a decent degree of choice. The food is very good quality - I believe that the current chef came from The Alex in Felixstowe. The prices are not cheap, but that is reflected in the quality of the food, so I don't think the food is overpriced. Service is friendly and good, and there are stunning views out to the Orwell Bridge.

However, for the quantitatively best pastry, look no further than this unassuming storefront in Rochester. Your eye will be caught by an array of delectables displayed in the window. And they taste every bit as good as they look - maybe more. We got three jam donuts, two jam pies (the lemon was best) and a few other items for under 5 pounds. Without a doubt the best pastries I've eaten in my life, and I've made it a point to eat quite a few. Eating jelly donuts at the top of Rochester Castle will always be one of my favorite memories.
