If you're neither of those things and wondering if it's worth a visit, I'd say you're better off sticking with options like French Market in Brookside. For food options, check out Cafe Gratitude, Whole Harvest Kitchen, or naturally vegan options like Blue Nile Cafe. The cupcakes here are generally high quality and have a great crumb to them, BUT I would recommend getting one cupcake of any given flavor first and making sure you like it before buying up a dozen or ordering a cake. The cupcakes here can be hit or miss, with some having a mushier texture or muddier flavor to them. Apart from the consistency issue, the only reason I wouldn't recommend The Littlest Bake Shop's pastries is because of the frosting. The frosting here is on the stiff, sugary side, which makes for pretty cupcakes but less than ideal mouthfeel. If you prefer frosting on the lighter side, this place likely isn't for you. I was a little bit more disappointed by the food. I ordered the Grilled Cheeze and the Littlest Big Brunch, and while everything was okay, nothing stood out. The greens on the side of the Grilled Cheeze were just spring mix without any kind of dressing, and the gravy was a weird gummy texture. Both dishes were way overpriced compared to the portion size, and the salt and pepper potatoes were the best part of each. Overall, I wanted to love this place much more than I actually did and would come back for a cupcake but not for the food.

With every visit to Andre's I become more and more of a fan…read more My first taste came from when I worked at the Nelson many years ago. Julian, the Director, is a fan of this place and he'd sometimes order an array of cakes for the staff to enjoy, they always went fast, and it was my first foray into European style cakes like what Andre's serves up. Flash forward more than a decade and I've been here a few times, sometimes to get chocolates for a friend, other times (like last night) for a meal. I didn't realize that Andre's does special events like their fondue nights. I have a feeling these are annual so you might have to wait until 2027 to snag a seat at the table, but their fondue meal was so much fun and comes with some history from their staff. Fun thing I learned was that they sell their fondue year round in the shop so if you ever want to do a unique date night at home just pop into Andres and purchase some to-go. It would be such a fun way to spend a Saturday at home. Finally, I'm going to add that for me what takes Andre's to the next level and makes it a must visit spot in KC is the history. It's been in the same family for generations, the recipes are authentic, and the owners are really kind people. It's the kind of business you can feel good about supporting and I'll be back!

My friend has celiac disease, so it's important to me to ensure my gifts to her meet her dietary restrictions. I checked online and discovered that almost all of Andre's chocolates are gluten-free and--better yet--they were open on Christmas Eve until 4 pm. So I dashed over after work, arriving at 3:40, and the folks behind the counter were all so kind and so helpful. I explained what I needed and they showed me the ready-made boxes of chocolates available--but then offered to put one together for me right then, to make sure that we chose exactly what she wanted and that every chocolate was gluten-free. They guided me through the choices, telling me the flavors that were in some of the selections, and giving their recommendations based on my friend's tastes. How nice of them!! I walked out close to the stroke of 4 pm, with the perfect box of chocolates in a lovely gift box. Hurray!! I really appreciate the staff's kindness, and going the extra distance for my friend, at the very end of their work day before the holiday started. Thank you SO much to everyone at Andre's, and Merry Christmas!

I'll definitely go back to try the other dishes I just didn't want in the heat. I know there were some comments about the expense of the menu I didn't find it horribly expensive but I would like to try the risotto and the French onion soup and of course mussels. just as a note I love the size of the menu not too big but has enough choices!!

Our Double Royale burger was beautifully executed and great quality. The beef rigatoni was rich, indulgent, and unlike anything I've had before. If this were a food-only review, Tailleur would be an easy five stars. Unfortunately... the service told a very different story. From the moment our server spilled my Diet Coke (served in a can, which felt odd for an upscale spot) and didn't attempt to clean it up, things felt off. My beef tartare starter took so long that both the server and a manager came by to apologize, assuring us it would be comped and out shortly. Instead, our mains arrived first, and by the time the tartare finally appeared, it felt like an afterthought we no longer had the appetite or opportunity to enjoy. The timing issues didn't stop there. I ordered the much-praised carrot cake to go, only to wait another 20 minutes with multiple "it'll be right out" check-ins. When the bill arrived, the tartare wasn't actually comped, so that needed another correction. We didn't complain once--honestly hoping things would course-correct--but the service never recovered. The final disappointment? The famous carrot cake I was holding out hope for to save the night turned out to be a dry, overcooked brick when I finally opened it back at my hotel. Tailleur clearly has talent in the kitchen, but the service missteps overshadowed what could have been a wonderful meal. With so many great restaurants in Kansas City, it's hard to justify a return when the experience felt this uneven.

We drove around KC and every place we stopped at had massive lines - stretching outside of the restaurants. Our patience was wearing thin, but I was bound and determined to eat BBQ. We decided to try one last place...Jack Stack Barbecue at the Plaza. Our hearts sank as we saw yet another long line at the door - an almost two-hour wait. We stopped in to use the restroom and on our defeated-walk back to the car, we noticed a separate area for take-out ordering. I was reading the sign, trying to decide if we wanted to wait for take-out. As we were deciding what to do, out walks a guy [Tyler Wigger] and asks us what we were up to. I give him the entire rundown and he says that he's seen that look on a man before [defeat is what I assume he meant]. He informs me that he is the General Manager and says to come with him - that he is going to hook us up. He takes us to the bar area and tells us to wait for a minute. A table opens-up...and he says this one is for you guys!!! No wait at all - the VIP treatment!!! We all sit down, still in disbelief of what was happening. As we are looking at the menu, here comes some free appetizers courtesy of Tyler Wigger. He did ask me what other places we stopped at. I gave him the list and he said "I bet none of them would do this for you". I can safely assume he was correct. The food was AMAZING...some of the best BBQ we have ever had!!! The service though, was top of the line - I have never had an experience like that in my entire life!!! We definitely enjoyed the VIP treatment!!! It was the experience of a lifetime and something we will never forget!!! Tyler gave me his business card and said to reach-out anytime we are in KC - that he would be sure to hook us up again!!! If you are ever in KC and hungry for BBQ...I highly recommend Jack Stack Barbecue at the Plaza!!!

A few months ago my sister and I hosted a baby shower for our other sister and after looking around an options we decided to go with McLains. It was a smaller group, and we were doing a brunch theme, and our sister LOVES sweets. That paired with our desire to support local, and our shared love of McLains, this was just the most obvious choice. We ended up ordering a cake and first of all I have to say their cake flavor choices are insane - I think we settled on a chocolate cake with peanut butter filling (YUM), but I don't think you can go wrong here. We also ordered one of their pre-set pastry bundles for pick up and honestly everything was wonderful. I think I placed the order about a week out and it was ready when I came to pick it up. What pushed this experience into five star category for me? Just the friendliness of the staff, the serving tools they send you home with, and how thoughtful everyone was. The food was also really just exactly what we needed and it was so good there were hardly any leftovers, I think the kids cleared us out by lunch! At any rate, if you're on the hunt for a great spot to support for your next brunch event consider McLains - they won't let you down!
