I recently (8/26) had the misfortune of dealing with Peter Caggiano around the death of my partner of 38 years. Caggiano's was the funeral home which was used for generations by my partner's family. Long before my dear partner passed away, he and I sat with Mr. Caggiano to pre plan and pay for my partner's anticipated service. At that time, I experienced him as gruff, and unimpressive, and found the facility shabby, and dirty.but my partner felt that he wanted to be cared for by the family which took care of both his mother and father's deaths. We (I) paid in full for the services we requested at the time.
Now, several years later, I sadly was in need of those services. When you call the Caggiano Funeral Home, you automatically get an answering machine. You tell the answering machine about the time and place of your loved one's death and "someone will get back to you when they are able" Later in the day "someone" did get back to me, an unknown voice asking me where to pick up 'the corpse'.
I do not believe in attending funerals, and so I gave all of the necessary plans to Mr. Caggiano and gave him my partners brother's number should he need anything else.
My partner has been buried for nearly a month now. Mr. Caggiano has never sent me his condolences nor penned a sympathy card. Also, after several phone calls that were never returned, requesting headstone engraving recommendations and a copy of my partner's death certificate, he unceremoniously informed me that I had " no right to that information.... You didn't bother to come to the funeral". No, I did not attend, commercial funerals do not comport with my belief system. I did, however pay for the funeral as a last sad gesture to my dear partner of 38 years.
He ended our conversation by raising his voice to me, and degrading my relationship with my partner! "You weren't even married!"
I know a cafone when I meet one. Cafone is an Italian word meaning, boor, uncouth, having no pedigree or class. Look it up... you'll understand Mr.Caggiano better if you do.
He has no empathy, he has no manners, he does know how to collect his fee and insult customers as they grieve. read more
