I don't know whether it was because of the gorgeous day, the amazing view of the church from where we were sitting on the patio, the great food, the attentive service, or just the company... but this was one of my favorite experiences in France to date. We parked our car under the trees below the old city and the church (pay parking even on Saturday) and walked up the roads and stairs to the city center. What a beautiful place! Let's start with the establishment. The restaurant has two entrances. One from the road leading to the church square which is where the take away food and sandwiches are served (let's call this the back entrance) and one from the square itself which is lined with patio seating (let's call this the front and check out my pic). The bathrooms are located downstairs next to the back entrance. We picked this place because it was one of the only restaurants with an open kitchen at 3 pm. We had the foie gras, the pasta salad, the lamb chops, and the andouillette for the three of us. The foie was served with sea salt, cracked peppercorns, toasted white bread, and a confit d'oignon that was delectable. I did not try the andouillette but our friend said it was great. I had the lamb chops which were oven baked and served with a side of mashed potatoes and although I could have done with more meat, it was fabulously prepared. Crispy on the outside with just enough crispy fat on the bone and tender and juicy meat. The pasta in the pasta salad was overcooked. Our server was extremely attentive and checked in on us and replaced our carafe d'eau multiple times through the meal. If you can arrange a day to travel to Chartre, do it!

We thrive on negative criticism, which is fun to write and to read. But the bitter truth we critics must face, is that in the grand scheme of things, the average piece of junk is probably more meaningful than our criticism designating it so -- Anton Ego "Ratatouille" A thing most helpers don't understand is that it is not just the food on the plate, but the intent of the restauranteur in creating the space, the ambiance, the drinks to go with the food. In all those ways, plus the food, this place is a winner. Yes they speak English but try the French language, it doesn't bite. This neighborhood pizzeria was filled with the locals, not too many tourists. We loved it for that reason. We enjoyed an almost perfect steak frites and truffle ravioli, just divine on a rainy day after touring the cathedral. The accompanying Chianti was earthy and soulful, perfect match. Service was charming but not forced. Owner enjoyed the fact we loved our meal so much. Bathrooms clean, of course, this is not America ;-) Highly recommended!

We stopped in for lunch, but I would definitely try them for dinner as well. The servers and service was very friendly. If you order a side salad, it comes in a little Mason jar - which I thought was a great touch. I recommend if you order pizza, consider sharing, because portions are huge - although they offer boxes to take the remainder home (which we did gladly). Beer/wine is a good selection and prices were reasonable. They close shortly after lunch, but reopen for dinner in the evening.
