Everything I read about visiting Schwerin online said to stop at this establishment and have some cake. I did just that this Saturday before heading down the street to visit the Schwerin Castle. I had spent the morning exploring the Altstadt in Schwerin, and decided that a coffee and slice of cake sounded like a great snack before heading to the castle (which you can literally see from the front tables). It was seat yourself, so I grabbed a table in the sun and began scanning the menu. It is mostly in German, but does have English translations under most items. I ordered a latte macchiato, and discovered that I had to go inside to order my slice of cake. After I received my coffee, I did just that. There were plenty of options, but I took the recommendation from the lady working and chose a raspberry cream cake (I wish I remembered the actual German name of the cake). She took my table number (which was collected by the waitress outside) and I sat back down with my cake. Both my latte and cake were outstanding. They gave me the push I needed to tour the castle and gardens. I loved the ambiance of this café, and they have plenty of food options for whatever you're in the mood for. Cafe Prag is most definitely not representative of its name. Pretty average restaurant, food was okay with nothing special and the service unfortunately was not the best. I had a Tivoli salad which was quite nice but not worth my euro. It was good enough for us to leave full, but we were somewhat unsatisfied. The restaurant itself is very nice, but that is about it. I am sure they might be better for the famous German Kaffee Kuchen. So if you do want to eat there maybe try this option better? For such a beautiful and typical city I would've expected better and more varied restaurant options. I can´t even remember the service so I´m simply not going to comment on it. But base din other reviews it seems like it is rather bad. Location is really good, so do look around before you settle down for this restaurant :) Mucho love, D. read more

Been there for lunch on a Sunday and was lucky to get a table. We had steak with French fries and grilled salmon with potatoes and it was a good portion and tasted excellent. We were already full but we couldn't resist to try their cakes. I had the chocolate cake and my friend the Marzipan cake. I loved it because it wasn't to sweet! My wife and I went there on a gorgeous day prior to an open air opera performance ( Aida). The setting was very nice, we sat outside and had a glass of wine and a main course. the food was traditional, copious and good. I had the schnitzel the service was also fine. The cafe/restaurant has some history and it feels that way. It looks nice and is well situated. read more

Everyone is raving about this place but definitely not rightfully so. Stopped in here yesterday and I have to admit the cakes are really well prepared and taste good. Everything else is a total fail. I'd actually only give one star but maybe they were having a bad day. Nevertheless, coffee was horrible....literally the cheapest crap you could possible serve in a cafe. Further, service was downright horrible. Somehow the folks here haven't realized that the Iron Curtain has fallen and they have yet to up their standards. We decided to move outside since inside the air was so sticky and damp that it was almost unbearable to sit there. It was raining outside but they had the umbrellas opened on the terrace area, hence we moved. Literally, a waitress told me she wouldn't serve us outside since it was raining and she didn't feel like getting wet (walking approximately one foot between door and umbrella where some drops may have fallen.) Further, because they didn't want to have to clean up outside, they said we had to come inside. We refused as we found the air horrible and completely unbearable. Hence, we got up and left. This is not how you make customers happy. Granted they may have good cake but service is bottom rung, the interior is dated and could be refreshed, there is no ventilation inside and they haven't quite yet figured out how to make good coffee. We are skipping this place in the future and hopefully more people will do likewise so they give their personnel some schooling. read more
