After hiking up to the Musee de la Castre and walking through the Old Town, we stopped in Café Boheme for a very late lunch. They're one of the restaurants that continue serving throughout the day, as some restaurants in Cannes stop lunch service around 2pm. Their lunch special is to die for! An appetizer + entrée is about 18€, which is a steal when you see how big the portion sizes are. None of us finished our meals! I had a very delicious smoked salmon appetizer, followed by the fish of the day with a plate full of steamed sides. The fish was really tender and tasted really fresh. The side of steamed veggies was more entrée size than side! There were so many veggies that I couldn't even finish it all. One thing I did notice that was kind of off-putting - we sat very close to the hostess stand so we noticed that they would take back the cup of olives they set out at the beginning of the meal and just spoon more olives on top of the used cups - some of them with uneaten olives still inside. Our waiter was actually pretty amazing. We stumbled upon this place while walking around Cannes. We ordered the beef carpaccio, truffle scallops, and salmon. Everything was great except normally when you order beef carpaccio, it's raw sliced beef. In this case it was more like cured meat. Major attitude from waitress once she knew we were Americans. Had to apologize for asking to order. When I took too long looking in her view at the wine list, actually less than 30 seconds, she walked away. Again, I apologized. We finally ordered and our first course was supposed fish soup and oysters. After waiting about 20 minutes and asking her nicely for ice and again being ignored, we just walked out. This is a tourist trap; it is a nice location and I could not rate the food because they were not service us any. In short, if you are in American do not eat here or even try to get a drink from this place. My husband and I were looking for a spot to have dinner and Yelped a few spots within about a block of where we were standing in downtown Cannes. Cafe Boheme came up with pretty good reviews, so we ventured in. The outdoor seating area was covered (it was February and pretty chilly), and had portable heaters installed up high. We were lucky to be near a heater to stay warm. Our server was really, really friendly, and spoke a bit of English. We ordered a pasta dish for two, and even though we were sooooooo hungry walking in there, we couldn't finish it! It was a penna pasta with a yummy cheese sauce. I also had a dinner salad to start, along with some wine, so by the time that huge pasta dish arrived I was already a bit full. We asked for a "to go" container which is not a customary request in France. The server tried really hard to find something for our leftover pasta (over half of the 2-person entree was still left) and found an empty plastic Nestle container that she cleaned out for us. It was kind of funny, and it was then that we learned that France has a new law requiring them to provide "to go" containers to customers as a means of reducing food waste. I applaud this move, but many businesses are still not equipped to provide containers. They'll get there. I'd easily return to this friendly spot with really good food, but we won't order so much food next time! read more

I wish Yelp would allow no stars or even negative stars This was the worst place in Cannes - all I can say if there is angry birds for games, can you say angry waiter for restaurants? I have never eaten at an establishment where the manager/waiter (Michael is his name) acts as a bouncer and scares people away by being the stereotypical angry French (but Welsh) waiter. He might of been having a bad day but watching every interaction and his observing his demeanor ruined many people's dinner. The food - blah I have had better even at a microwave Parisian Irish conglomerate owned bistro. I hope he is not the owner because I would discourage anyone to support such an angry and mean person. Warning - full alert - Attention - Achtung - Hontoni Dame desu - Bu Bu Hao!!!!!! Keep walking or go to McDonalds around the corner. I did the price fixed and it was fantastic - the appetizer - focaccia/mini pizza, main - duck breast with a reduction, potatoes and tomato ragu, dessert - lemon meringue tart. I was completely stuffed which says something because I have a big appetite. There was no way I could not finish each of the servings as they were all that good. Selected this restaurant as we were walking by as it seemed extremely busy (thought that was a good sign) and they had a prix fix menu for 24.50 which included an appetizer, main course, and dessert. Appetizers and main courses were very good (Italian Charcuterie and Nicoise Salad). My wife's main course (fish speacial with rattatouile) was good, but my main course (Gorgonzola Gnocci) was way to heavy and couldnt eat more than 25% of it. I took a look at the menu, spotted the word truffle, and ran inside. The friendly host sat us down and brought us some marinated olives gratis. Beware in France. Sometimes what appears to be gratis isn't really. I opted for the prefix menu which include and appetizer, entree, and dessert. For my appetizer, I ordered the charcuterie plate. They brought out a generous amount that can feed about 2-3 people. Everything on that plate was fresh. For my entree, I ordered the chicken breast in a creamy truffle sauce with a side of mash potato and veggies. The sauce was perfect and the sides were generous and delicious as well. Last but not least, I had to order the creme brûlée. It was one of the best creme brûlée I've had in France and believe me I had a lot. My friend ordered scallops and she didn't like it very much because it was over cooked but i enjoyed my meal very much. I totally recommend the prefix since it'll cost you under $35 usd for all of that. Beware of ordering water. That can cost you $12 a bottle. read more
