I'm that person that will order the same thing because I know what to expect but not this time. I ordered the "Middeys Brunch" with a Mimosa and American coffee. The food and service did not disappoint. If I am ever afforded the opportunity to return to Cockfosters, UK or even London in general I will definately make my way to this darling little gem. I would encourage the general masses to decend on this joint and chill for breakfast, lunch, brunch and/or dinner. Thank you Bobby and staff for your amazing welcoming hospitality. Kindest Regards

Promised so much but let down!…read more I attended this new cafe/brasserie with high expectations the decor is done to a high standard and there is a selection of coffees and nice organic expensive items for sale to take away, it has the feel of a nice independent coffee shop in a village. The menu is not too large and offers a good range of favorites like burgers, pastas, breakfasts, salads and sandwiches etc. I opted for the club sandwich presentation again was good, served on a wooden platter with chips in a little bowl. However this unfortunately is where it goes a bit down hill, the food I had and my girlfriends too was distinctly average I even commented that I can make a better club sandwich (and I'm no chef) the chicken was dry, the bacon rubbery, tasteless and cheap. Not what I was really expecting. The price point isn't that high but I feel they are cutting costs with quality. Service as well was not great, maybe because they're new and inexperienced but there were several problems with staff; - First being not great English making ordering more of a trouble than it should be, I heard the table next to me struggling too. -Second mistake, clearing my partners plate away before I had finished. Having come from a service background this is rude and shouldn't happen. -Third, No check back after ordering despite having several members of staff standing around doing nothing, no one asked how my food was so I couldn't inform them it was a bit dry. -and finally, The bill was brought over to me and left at the table without me asking and without the offer of any dessert, coffee, another drink etc. I found this strange as surely they will lose business with this behaviour. I felt slightly rushed, it wasn't like they needed the table it was almost empty. I wouldn't return for food, the coffee and the milkshake were OK and that's about as far as it goes unfortunately.

The Old Courthouse Cafe - Delicious carrot cake and banana cake

A warm welcome, with a yummy choice of hot chocolates, cakes, cold drinks and ice creams. Service was quick and friendly. The carrot cake was moist and super sweet, but so moreish. Banana cake also hit the spot. Yum! I got the feeling that this place could be popular with parents and toddlers when the weather is warm as there was a play area and playground nearby. Off peak this is a lovely quiet spot to grab a cuppa and chat. Tip: By car, parking is available on Manor Close (easy to miss as it could be mistaken for a private driveway). Drive to the end and it opens into a car park with the cafe to the left.

They were just about to close when we came in for coffee & cake (sorry guys!) and they were very accommodating. No vegan cake that day, but they did have a gluten free option. I had some fancy kettle chips and checked out the very cute collection of art, knick knacks, lotions, candles etc from small-time craftspeople while the Mr perused the day's papers. If you're in the area and can't bear to sit in a chain coffee shop in The Spires, or if you're just having a walk through the pretty grounds, I would highly recommend having a sit down in here!

Opened about a month ago, this place is beautifully decked out with retro cocktail chairs, bare brick walls and has a great feel about it, even when it was empty. The staff were attentive, knowledgeable and wore a smile (amazing just how much of a difference that can make to a place isn't it?). Not much more to say really, other than the coffee was fantastic, even managed to win over my rather opinionated mother and she even noticed that the barrista went through the process of cleaning his hands each time he served a new customer - for all you clean freaks out there, got to be a plus! Oh, try the shortbread, not only do you get 2 'cookies', but they are amazingly crumbly. Trust me, try them, and get me one while you are there!
