Today was my second time at Cafe Yerushalmi, the food on 03/26 was delicious that I had to have it today for lunch. The Moroccan Cigars with Tahini and pickles were crunchy and delicious. I don't believe I've ever had fresh grape leaves that were warm, and I don't want to eat them any other way now. The falafel remind me of the falafel at Mam's in Key West (iykyk). Fresh, crunchy, moist, everything a handmade falafel should be. Today, I had my husband try the same order I ordered and he said we have to put it on rotation. If you haven't tried this spot, you are doing yourself a disservice. Go try it. read more

I was visiting Tallahassee after many years, and came across this small restaurant owned by this enchanting Israeli lady! She is stretched thin because she is the waiter, cook, cashier... Everything, but your patience will reward you with some authentic Israeli food. We had the falafel platter, and everything in that plate was homemade, from the freshly baked pita to the silky smooth hummus, the falafel, the Israeli health salad.. I found this place while looking for Mediterranean restaurants. I drove right by as traffic was pretty bad. However, I was able to drive around the block and right into the parking lot. The food is all kosher, with all the appetizers being vegetarian. I tried the grape leaves. I'm used to them being served with tzatziki sauce. These were served warm in a juice I couldn't identify but they were delicious. A little sweet, a little spicy (very little) and extremely tender. I had Moroccan cigars, a type of small roll made of potatoes. It was served with tahini sauce. I was talked into getting a bourekas, which I got with mushrooms. They had potato and another kind, all vegetarian options. They have some Israeli brand juices and drinks, along with can cokes and LaCroix and Gatorade. Water and tea round out the selection. This no-frills little place is truly a gem. You won't find any Israeli food more authentic than this outside of Brooklyn, Boca Raton, and of course Israel. The owner is a sweet Israeli lady who is also the cook, so you know it's got to be good. She was apparently the cook over at FSU's Hillel before she decIded to open up her own place just south of the stadium. Must-tries are the shakshuka (pictured), which she serves right from the skillet, the turkey shawarma hummus, and of course the falafels. The baklava for dessert is among the best I've ever had. Note: this is truly the definition of a mom-and-pop place. When I went, she was the cook, server, and cashier, so don't expect white tablecloth service. My first time coming here! I barely spotted the place as I passed by to run at the the nearby trail. We came back after I finished and it was fantastic! Admittedly we had got there just before closing and didn't realize it at the time, yet we were served very nicely and presented with many great options! Unfortunately I don't have a picture, but I got the Chicken Schnitzel Pita Sandwich & a Mushroom Boureka while my dad got the Kebab Plate & a Potato Boureka! I've only had a pita sandwich once in my life before and it was from a fast food restaurant, but the one here really blew me away -- I loved it! The combination of the pita bread with the sauce & veggies worked perfectly. The Boureka was also very nice; a toasty and flaky exterior with a good mushroom filling inside. I unfortunately have to give Cafe Yerushalmi a 3/5 rating. I really wanted to LOVE this place... First, Cafe Yerushalmi is a great addition to the Tallahassee food scene, apart from chain "Mediterranean" restaurants, we did not have any authentic Israeli food until Cafe Terushalmi opened last Winter. Having grown up in Montréal, where Israeli restaurants were on every second block in my neighborhood, I had high expectations from this new place. There are a few things that I do love about Cafe Yerushalmi. First, I love that it is locally owned. There is nothing better than supporting a small local restaurant. Second, the menu has many diverse options that you cannot find anywhere else in Tallahassee. Third, the Israeli salad and eggplant were delicious. However, I thought that the falafels were dry and not as flavorful as I would have liked. I also thought that it was a little bit expensive- while the setting is casual, the prices are on the higher end. I would definitely give this place another chance- it could have been an "off" night. read more

I've been meaning to go to Cafe Yerishalmi since I first heard it was open. It's located in the old Banditos Burritos location. When I arrived there was one woman working by herself, the owner I assume? I came specifically for the matzo ball soup, something I had been craving since I moved here from the West Coast. Once there, I decided to also order a falafel pita and tabbouleh. That turned out to be a lot of Food that I ate on for a few days. The falafel was okay. I enjoyed the Israeli salad in the pita and the pickles, but I still prefer Sahara's falafel. The soup was good. It could have been more seasoned for me but it was clean and filling. The star of the meal was the tabbouleh! It was delicious and why I will go back. The woman made it while I waited, which allowed me to customize it a little (light tomatoes) and it had dried cranberries, which gave it a pop! And though it was pricy, it was a huge serving. I would have liked some crispy pita with it, but it was so good I ate it straight with it spoon! I look forward to going and trying other dishes. read more

The owner and chef is a warm friendly woman who loves to Make you feel welcome and will let you know what she has on the stove cooking right then. Just a very heartwarming lady from Jerusalem serving up some heartwarming cuisine. Her hummus is definitely spectacular, a somewhat thin, maximally smooth character with a perfect chickpea-nutty tahini flavor. Only the best of quality pita as well. What else can I say? Been here 3 times now, everything I've had is great. The woman who takes your order (believe the owner) is really sweet, always smiling, and will recognize you after a few times. You can tell she really cares about you enjoying the food. I have always gotten take out, but people are always eating there (inside & outdoor seating). I've had the yerushalmi hummus, brisket plate when they had it as a special, and shawarma plate. All were good but the yerushalmi hummus & brisket are my favorite so far. Magi's cooking is phenomenal! This is authentic Israeli food, with fresh and all kosher ingredients. You can't go wrong with anything you order, but my favorites are the fried eggplant and the kibbeh. She serves real hummus, nothing like the stuff you get in the store. One of my favorite Tally spots! The owner is fantastic and the falafel is the best I have ever had (and I've eaten a lot of different falafel).
