I have been passing through this road for 32 years and never stopped by here. As you walk in you will notice an espresso bar near the front door where you have the option of sitting down and ordering your breakfast. If you choose you can have a seat in the main dining area in the back. Their menu options are decent and the prices are really fair. We took our breakfast to go where we could sit next door on our balcony and enjoy the view.

Menu is kind of small but very good, home made bread of different types. Fresh squeezed juice and delicious smoothies. Definitely recommend.

Maya Cacao - Front of the store. Yes, it's for tourists. But where else are you going to experience real indigenous chocolate?

I'd say my favorite were the orange, lemon and coconut. They were all so smooth and rich! Unfortunately, what I actually ended up purchasing wasn't quite as satisfying. The coconut macaron had too much crunch and not enough chew. And the orange truffle - while the ganache on the inside was totally delicious, the chocolate shell tasted oddly waxy. But definitely go pick up a few bars of chocolate!

Chocolate was consumed as a bitter drink in Meso-America for thousands of years before Europeans discovered it around the time of Columbus and Cortes. In this shop you can try chocolate in its bitter, liquid form. You can also have "normal" chocolate and coffee drinks, along with cakes and desserts, like chocolate flan. There are also chocolate bars for purchase, but they are very expensive (About $8 per bar) Workers all speak excellent English, and there is a lady whose name i've forgotten that explains where chocolate comes from and lets you try cacao beans and bits of unsweetened chocolate. The proceeds from the shop are used to fund education for impoverished indigenous children in the south of Mexico (i think it was the Oaxaca region).
