Semla, princess cake, and more

Great place to work out of. Lots of students, free wifi, lush seating, and even a chalkboard on the wall. It looks very aesthetic and hipster. My Stockholm friend lives moments away but had never been, saying tourists went here--I did find that they had locals as well, though (based on the languages spoken.) Semla and latte were good. Service was very friendly. After 2 hours, they tried getting me out though and I got the hint!

Service was a tad slow, but they were training a new worker, so that's understandable. Simply good sandwiches and fresh juice. Cute little restaurant in old town, you can't beat it.

Cafe Schweizer is the perfect place to start your morning in Gamla Stan! If you're visiting Sweden then a Princess Cake is an obvious must-try, and the one at Cafe Schweizer is delicious. Their cinnamon buns are also a nice morning treat. They serve hot food and breakfast plates you can order, but during the times I visited I only ordered from their pastry case. The inside of the cafe is very artsy and cozy, and I highly recommend dropping in while in Stockholm!

I could not resist coming in after seeing the beautiful storefront of Cafe Schweizer. Outside, you'll be enticed to come in after seeing the beautiful vibrant flowers and fruits. This charming café boasts high ratings, though I suspect they're more so for the desserts, drinks, and freshly squeezed juices than the food. I ordered the English Breakfast, which included a sandwich, a boiled egg, juice, and a choice of tea or coffee for about $14 USD. My meal was, unfortunately, lackluster...

Princess cake

Coffee and food is excellent. We've had the streudel, princess cake, yogurt bowl, and salami sandwich- all were excellent. Coffee was also delicious as was the orange juice. Only minor complaint is that the service can be slow.

Great little cafe with unique food choices and friendly staff. Def go here if you want shrimp sandwich or salmon torte. Wonderful little place!

Cafe Schweizer famous buns. Yummy

Sometimes you just need somewhere to catch your breath, catch up, and plan for the rest of the day. Chokladkoppen did that for me. I had the Hot Chocolate and a cinnamon bun, and leisurely sat at my table for at least 30 minutes. There was never pressure to move on, which is so common, at least in the US ("Are you finished working on that? Can I bring you something else? Can I bring you a box?). The hot chocolate was dark, very much tasted like quality chocolate, and like a warm massage. I also ate one of their cinnamon buns, which are very popular in Stockholm. It also hit the spot. The cost of the hot chocolate was $6 USD and the cinnamon bun was a few cents less. The view from the table and people watching alone was worth the total $12 cost, but so was the hot chocolate and cinnamon bun.

Unfortunately, the broccoli soup I ordered was just not good, and my boyfriend got the chicken curry baked potato, only to receive a chicken salad potato. Perhaps a translation error, but it was not the best culinary experience.

The Cafe in the hotel was fantastic and convenient and offered a wonderful breakfast. The staff were also very kind. What we didn't love: apartment 5 was on the first floor and was very very loud. We heard delivery trucks coming in as early as 4:30 in the morning every day. We heard Tour groups walking right by our window every day at all hours of the day. If we opened the windows, the noise was very very loud. There was also a clock from the Stockholm church that rang 24 hours a day every 15 minutes. The bed in the apartment was two small Narrow beds pushed together. Unfortunately the shower did not drain and caused a lot of flooding in the bathroom every time we bathed. Anytime we used the bathroom automatic lights would turn on which would light up the entire apartment because there was glass around the bathroom near the ceiling. There was no way to control this. The lights would stay on for five minutes. There was a smell in the apartment that was similar to kitty litter which we were told was likely from the drains in the sink. Lastly a fire alarm went off one morning time is the fire alarm go off at 4:30am---we didn't hear this initially because we had earplugs on. Once we heard it we called the front desk staff and sadly they didn't answer---prompting us to get dressed and run across the street to notify them. One of the perils of wearing earplugs so you can sleep!! If you are assigned to apartment 5 we recommend ear plugs and a sleep mask over your eyes any time you attempt to sleep, flipflops for the shower as you will be soaked in water on the floor, a candle to freshen up the smell in the unit, and fans to try and remove the smell from the unit. This unit may be ideal for someone hard of hearing or deaf. Enjoy!!
