Cafe Mondial is located on Albert and Elizabeth downtown Brisbane. Excellent spot to sit out on the sidewalk and people watch. The food is excellent and coffee was strong. If you are visiting Brisbane or live here and looking for a good breakfast and brunch spot this is a great choice. read more

I've always been a fan of this place. Vaguely Mediterranean, the menu is decent, but check the chalk board. There's usually some great sounding specials! You have two seating choices here. Outside on the footpath, or inside a little dining room. Footpath sounds like a nice idea, but between the cabs, cars and smokers, it's more than a little noisy and smelly. Step inside the air conditioned dining room and it's suddenly much quieter, a lovely little room. Staff are always friendly and attentive, without hovering annoyingly. I don't come here a lot, but have been coming for years, and always enjoy it. read more

Went to try this place because it was packed when we walked by and thought it was good. Girlfriend and I waited for 30-40min for our food. I ordered the fettuccine marina. The pasta was slightly undercooked from al dente. Seafood was average. But the pasta had flavour. Left unsatisfied and still hungry. The price was expensive for what I ate. Girlfriend had the risotto with grilled chicken. The risotto tasted like it was watered down and lacked that creamy texture. Service was okay. Nothing to complain about but nothing to praise either. Overall, terrible dinner. Not worth the price nor the wait. read more

How is Cafe Mondial still around? I'd largely attribute it to drunk people stumbling back from a CBD nightclub on a Friday night, and realising they missed dinner. However, patrons here rarely look very drunk, so it must be something else. Maybe it's a neutral place that people go to on a first date. At least, I'm a guilty member of the latter group. I came here for a first date on a night following a Big Night Out and was feeling hung-over and tired. I remember forcing myself to stay awake and seem perky and thinking, "just get through this thing so you can get to the cinema". Thankfully, the staff here aren't part of that bunch that love to forget your water order. The food was expensive and very bland. I remember not caring much given my lack of hunger, though he was appropriately annoyed. More distracting to me was the constant whir of traffic and angry taxi drivers whirring past my head. This restaurant sounds like it must be in a great location - the heart of the CBD! - but it's in the heart of the traffic and taxi-queue district, really. And as we were eating al fresco, it's right in your face. The staff bustle about here, always busy, never extremely friendly or noticeably rude. It can be hard to sometimes get their attention; and waiting to do so is certainly trying for the hung-over. read more

Went for breakfast last week. Got the special of the "Big Breakfast" and one steak breakfast. The service was great. We were given the relaxing space we wanted, but had a helpful waiter any time we looked around. The big breakfast was awesome, although a little meat heavy, the olive bread was delicious. We each also added avocado, which just made everything better. The steak was a little flavorless, so a bit disappointing. But everything else was great. read more

After fruitlessly searching the web for recommendations for a decent breakfast in the Brissy CBD on a Sunday, my hunger and need for coffee got the better of me so we ended up at Cafe Mondial. I had some pre-conceptions about this being a noisy, tourist trap, serving average food and coffee. However, I ended up being pleasantly surprised by this cafe. Enough variety on the breakfast menu that my wife could find something that did not contain eggs (difficult task usually) and the resulting food was quite good. We had the big breakfast and the Mondial Mega (think that's what it was called) and we were both pretty happy with it. The morning before, we had breakky at Campos in the Valley so we can appreciate good food. Cafe Mondial certainly did not have the refinement or quality of Campos however we walked away content. We were seated inside, away from most of the noise and hustle of the street which made it more pleasant. Sure, it lacks some personality but the transient staff are attentive enough and the food is above average (in my view...) Soooo, if you find yourself aimlessly wandering around the city looking for breakfast, Cafe Mondial is worth a try. read more

Sometimes, just sometimes a drink and quick nibble after work is just what you want. With the large variety of fast food, Asian noodles and hipster coffee places popping up in the city, a glass of wine and some tapas inspired savoury bites seem lacking. I decided to stop in at Café Mondial (a bit of a Brisvegas staple - it's been there for SOOOO long) hoping for a tasty Mediterranean style snack. It doesn't seem like the menu has changed in QUITE a while with the standard café offerings, including dips, chips, etc. The service was fast and friendly and my order ( a trio of dips and pita bread) was at my table in a flash. The food was tasty and my glass of wine hit the spot. I'd just like to see the café refreshed and updated. It's looking a little tired. read more

Came here for lunch because it had outdoor seating and the menu had things we liked. I got the nachos and my other half got the chicken panini. I'm not sure if it is cultural (I'm from the U.S.) or just this restaurant, but my nachos were covered with marinara sauce instead of salsa. Other half said his chicken panini wasn't that great. I'll give them two stars though because the staff was nice. Gluten free bread is available for the sandwiches, but not the paninis. read more

Shocking service ! Ordered a sandwich and they were unable to provide all ingredients advertised for it, turkey and cranberry- without the cranberry but instead of telling us they hoped we wouldn't notice, and then refused to give a discount for it. We ordered two breakfast meals and hot chocolates, only to later be told that they had 'run out of chocolate'. We then changed our order to a caramel milkshake and an iced coffee, and later to be told they 'had no ice-cream, therefore no milky drinks were available'. We then decided to just get water which was then literally thrown on our table by a very rude staff member who didn't even acknowledge us. We then proceeded to wait about 40 minutes for our two breakfasts to arrive, which we then discovered was overpriced as they did not give an appropriate amount of food. While going to pay the bill, we witnessed the barista making hot chocolates and milkshakes using half full chocolate syrup, and a half full chocolate powder container. This meant they obviously had some left and lied to our faces. We would recommend NOT EATING AT THIS PLACE as it was a waste of money and time. read more
