My god-mother's friend suggested King Ahiram. The place is just a take-out place with an adjoining room with tables and chairs where you can have a "sit-down" meal. So we ended up ordering a selection of items. I don't know. I am used to going to Little Arabia for my middle eastern food here in southern California and my favorite place in Brisbane is Nono's and omg.... the food here was kinda on the dismal side. I felt really bad that my parents and god-parents had to sit through a different cuisine which I've been touting as so fabulously delicious only to be faced with really sub-par Mediterranean food. We had falafels, hummus, babaghanoush, kebabs, these crescent pastry things which looked like empanadas -- everything was mediocre at best. The meat was dry, the dips needed more olive oil.... falafels were hard as rocks. Tabouleh was flavorless. I never heard the end of it after the meal, even from my son who is an avid fan of this cuisine. We are definitely going back to Nono's next time.

It's only when you really take notice that you see King Ahiram's name on there. So yeah, until I paid closer attention when I decided to review it, this place was always known to me and everyone I know as 'the Lebanese place'. I guess the point I'm making is that at a place like this the name is unimportant. The food is tasty, cheap, and a bit on the greasy side so it ticks all the boxes for hungry youths. I wouldn't go here expecting a gourmet meal, but for the prices and the convenience it's worth munching on a felafel kebab or cabbage roll. 'The Lebanese place' might not be fit for a King despite its namesake, but it's definitely fit for a starving student.

Courses came out in reasonable time, Turkish bread and dips, Chicken Pide, Mezze platter , mixed grill and finally Baklava and Turkish delight and Turkish coffee and tea. I couldn't fault any of it. It was a lot of food for 2. The mixed grille was my favourite . Lamb Kofta type things, grilled chicken and lamb, pilaf and a very tasty mint yoghurt sauce . Decor is authentic, definitely worth a visit if you like middle eastern food but like the different flavours and cooking styles of that great fascinating country of Turkey

Some of the options are is predictably similar to other Middle-Eastern cuisine, with dishes like the mixed char grilled kebab plate (served with rice and salad) and several meat and vegetable stews not dissimilar to tagines. The standout was an eggplant dish called 'Burani Banjan'. The sauce is incredibly rich and tasty. I'm at a loss as to where the flavour came from as the menu just says eggplant cooked with tomato, onion and garlic and served with yoghurt. They must be leaving out a few of the secret herbs and spices, Col. Sanders style. Service was a little slow but the prices are very affordable. The total bill for my party of three was $77. Also, it's BYO and they didn't charge us any corkage.

Mini lahmajun 4/10- flat and lacking in flavor. Roasted eggplant 3/10. There are so many delicious ways to prepare eggplant and this was just bland and uninspiring.
