My uncle decided to treat my mum and I to a quick lunch before I went to work one afternoon, and he decided to come to Cafe Manzil, which he had been to the week before and thoroughly enjoyed.
The décor is tasteful and traditional, not too overbearing, and as it was a Friday afternoon we were seated quickly. I told the waiter that I was in a bit of a rush to get to work and he took this on board, saying that he would make sure the chef got the food ready in double quick time!
We ordered a main each, not noticing at the time any special offers or lunch menus, but it was reasonably priced anyway.
I had a chicken patia, which did indeed come in ten minutes of ordering, which was so quick. It was pretty nice, the rice was a bit dry and hard, but overlooking that the curry itself was really tasty.
My uncle did not have the same luck, and his Lamb Madras with extra chillis came without the extra heat, so he had to send it back. The waiter did treat this as a bit of an inconvenience which was off-putting, but he got a replacement with the chillies none the less.
Overall, a good lunch but I haven't returned since. It drowns in a sea of better eateries in Hamilton and needs to spice up a bit or it might find itself at the bottom of the pack. read more
